1.
New here so please forgive me, but what is Kelly's interest in PNG??? Why is it such an issue that they did not get to play them this year??? ???
Awe it is no more than bragging rights! The MVP(s) of the last two years has played with the girls from Kelly on Mike Hughes 93g.. not much more and Coach Bates a very good coach has won coach of the year and pretty deserving other than she has not beat Kelly's coach Burddick in the last 4 years. Kelly went to the Reservation and won their tournament 4 years ago... so maybe Burddick should have won one of those Coaching awards thats all no big deal... just some old men ( I am nearly 50) with nothing better to do... most of us are good friends :D
2.
You're absolutely right, rip!  Aaron is THE ONLY premier level player on the WB team and yet look how they did! ;D ;D ;D She missed the first 2 games in district play *she had better things to do other than play soccer  :o ), one of which was against the second place team in our district, Baytown Sterling and yet we somehow managed to beat them 8-0 on an away game.  Soccer is a team effort.  A mediocre group of 11 players that play well as a team will beat a team of soccer standouts with 2-3 college commits (read:Sterling).  Burdick left when the seniors left.  She knows something you don't. ;)
What would that be... I have personally coached ( Mike and Jan's assistant.. gopher what ever) 15.. of the current Super Gold players in the past 10 years. 14 on the SSSC93G and one Brianna Tamayo pre SSSC when her mother and I coached a BYSC club team... I will admit back then Barbara knew way more than I did about the sport of soccer... but I have been fairly close to most of the girls that are leading their respective High Schools.  How come we have never met... or have we? As to why Burddick is leaving... it has something to do with being pregnant 3 of her 4 years at Kelly and having to be a stay home mom for kids ages 4,3 and 2.. my guess is some day she will be back and if she has a little Phil Jackson's intuition it will be when the 97-98 birthdays get to high school! As far as the Brook.... you are right that a team can beat any single standout.. hence the success of Waco Midway... they have no premier level players to be honest... I do not know if they are Div 1 but 12 of them are playing for the same team Sting Waco 93... which gives them some familiarity. I was just replying to the comment that WB was going to spank Kelly next year and based on my current knowledge of both rosters.. I think it will be close.
3.
Congratulations to all the girls that made it.  if yours didn't, I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Yes, there are some better players that didn't make the teams but really, what do they get out of it other than bragging rights?  And regarding the Kelly-WB  scorecard:  WB has traditionally spanked Kelly over the years.  This year's group of seniors made it harder.  After they leave, it will be back to what it used to be.  I would have picked Aaron as the MVP, then again I'm just a little partial to the Lady Bruins.  Anyone care to take a guess what next year's WB v Kelly game would be like?   ;D ;D ;D Oh BTW, I heard one or two of the better playesr may be pulling a Sladie   :o :o :o
I will bet that next year will be a little more competitive than years past... How do you come to that conclusion Rip...1) due to the crop of effective freshman that have come into the fold. They remind me of ours girls when they were freshman. Tara Austin is the real deal she reminds me of a young yasimine afshar or Aaron Strawser... if she goes abroad and plays on the premier level she can really become something special. I have never made that suggestion to her father... I want to stay on good terms with SSSC. Let's look at another freshman Jillian Ryalls  she scored 2 goals in that 7-6 defeat to Ursuline... that was no fluke.. Ursuline did not let up. And if my mind serves me correctly she denied one of you guys sure goals inside the 6 in our little scrimmage this year.. speaking of that scrimmage and WB roster.. Aaron is the only bonafide premier level player... there was a sophomore(Helen Grambrath) in that scrimmage who will no doubt be back.. who for lack of a better phrase shut Aaron down in the midfield ( a complete surprise to me) with the only exception being the beautiful break away cross to Rachel Babin. That cross came before Helen was inserted into the midfield.. to be honest after that goal I thought it was going to be a long night. Goalies.. I think Kelly's is as good as WB... the only thing that may help is if SD stays in Houston and moves up to premier. Now as far the others... Kelly has two stout Juniors will be Seniors in Lauren Zeto and Caitlyn Quinn.. Lauren was at one time the stoutest of the three when all three played together back in the day... that being Aaron, Caitlyn and Zeto.. I do not know what happen but if she returns to that physical dominance it could be on.. and if and only if they will put Caitlyn at defense to assume Madeline Hornings position that could stop anyone from blowing by them.. only well orchestrated pass and move is going to fly. There are no other players at WB that scare me. decent but not great unless there is something cooking in the lower levels I am unaware of. Now those 97 or 98 girls they will surely tip the scales no matter where they go. ( hopefully enough to Kelly) I had a personal issue with Brittney Burddick getting no love.... her team did more in the regionals than her counter part and against tougher comp... I did my homework to prove it Ursuline had 6 verifiable Div 1 commits where as Waco Midway had none you could verify... Although they have 12 players who play on the Sting Waco 93 who are ranked 16th in North TX.. 68 in Region 3 and 346 in the Nation... The Hughes 93G put a spanking on them as well as FC Dallas 2nd tier team who I watch play this weekend and was not impressed.  I agree with Natalie being MVP due to the 43 goals and I am a big Strawser fan and also her chauffeur from time to time to practice.... do I believe Nat is a better overall player than Aaron...... no I do not... but she earned the award. we did beat the team that took you guys out so there! :P
4. Well Done Natalie... You have a keen sense for the goal... many players could advance their games if they took that page from your book... being in the right place at precisely the right time! Congrats on the Miss Port Neches... You would be a great rep for our state as Miss Texas as far as that goes Miss USA... aim high!
5. Kelly lost to WB in the first  Winter Classic  four years ago BoxT.. but has won most (leaning towards all) of the local matches since. ;D To your question who votes.... I do not think it would be a bad idea to get some type of player participation... It would be tough for it not to turn into a popularity vote ... but if you could get a true evaluation from the participants.. I think it would be fairly accurate. Players know Aaron Strawser( the girl is committed to UT that speaks volumes to her soccer ability), Natalie Hagar, Chloe, Kaitlyn Stowe, Yasi, Bailey, Bianca, Emily, Claire etc... It may be the tweak it needs.. it could not hurt.
6. Sincerely....  Congratulations to all the girls.
7. Zuri and company took down Space City FC Premier  4-1.. We were up 3-0 before they blinked their eyes. Zee had one goal and one assist... Chloe played well and is working her way back into premier level fitness.. she is making good progress.. Bailey was pitching her 2nd consecutive shutout until late in the game when she lost sight of one that took a high bounce and just went out of reach. Team is off this weekend but Zuri and NJ or guest playing with a team from Canada at the Spring Invitational in Dallas.. The following weekend we play Eclipse Black who came back from 2 down against Space City to win 5-2.. It should be a good game.. it always is. ;) RIP
8.
Congrats to Bailey. I look forward to your success at Lamar. Those of us who have watched you play over the years are so proud of you. Again, another direct result of the efforts of Mike Hughes with youth soccer at Spindletop. IMO, Bailey is the best goalie in SETX. Dolan at WB and O'Neal at Kelly are possibly as promising but younger.
Here here for Coach Mike!!!
9.
[Hidden Content]
Way to Go Bailey!!!!
10.
Very physical game from the get go.  No calls in the box.  Each time, ref always signaled to play on.  The girls played hard and played with their hearts.  A few collisions with the goal keeper ended up with their keeper taking an ambulance ride to the hospital and both our forwards hurt, one hobbled along, while the other one stayed off.  One of our defensive players also got hurt and had to be carried off the field.  I believe CS also had another injury.  The refs let the game get out of hand and was dangerous for both teams with more pushing and shoving and a yellow card here and there.  We had a goal called back by the center.  It doesn't matter.  Our season's over, and good luck to Clear Springs but their backup goalie I'm afraid won't do well against FB Austin.  Looking forward to next year as we're only loosing three starters this year.  Hopefully, our UT commit will decide to play her senior year, and with plenty of Division 1 players on JV, we should be ready and healthy for next year.  Good job, ladies!
I think your UT commit will be back next year... I talked to her last night and she seemed excited about the prospects of her senior season. ;) I also spent time with a Clear Spring's parent at a recent practice and he echoed your sentiments of the game getting waaaay out of hand. You should have seen how the Clear Springs player and the WB player got along just fine when they were on the same practice squad, I could honestly say they actually seemed to like each other...you would have found it difficult to believe they had just tried to kill one another only a few days earlier.
11.
I did not think Midway would be beat. Frisco must be very good. What great games:Friendswood vs. Midway, Midway vs. Frisco. Wish I could have seen them. For that matter, I would like to watch the 4A and 5A state tournament each year.
Welcome back Watash! ;D Call me I will go on a rode trip with you to watch those 4A and 5A tournaments
12. My daughter has a club team mate on that Clear Lake team Brittney Wade.. She will be playing soccer next year at Tennessee and they have two more going to LSU in the near future. She also has two off the Cedar Park Vista Ridge joining her at SFA next year. SFA's 2011 class is pretty stacked. 4 players off of the Region 3 USYS regional championship team Lonestar red 93G as well as two from FC Dallas, and two from the Albion 93G... lookout Southland Conference. sorry I hijacked this thread... Yes it is going to be a interesting final.  Go Clear Lake!
13. Yesterday Bailey, Chloe and Zuri's club team Albion 93 beat Challenge 93 1-0. A big hurdle to getting to the USYS national cup state playoffs. ( failed to do so last year) Next week we play Space City FC Premier.. I am thinking there may be a Friendswood girl or two on that team.
14. Who made up such a stupid rule to stymie such a great concept... or better yet give me the logic as to what evil it is preventing... you know rules... they are there to prevent evil people from gaining a competitive edge. ;D
15. Thought it would be cool to have an all inclusive Texas World Cup or some other given name.. I kinda like the World cup name. But it would include all high school soccer programs... I would like to see how the 4a champs would fair against the 5a champs and UIL against TAPPS.. and so on and so forth to be called the true Kings or Queens of Texas.  Could rotate between Houston, Dallas and Austin.. I am not sure how many programs there are but you may have to be first, second or possibly third in your respective districts to qualify.. just thought it would be cool. probably could get some scouts out their to take a look at the crop of Texas players all in one venue.. make it happen WOSgrad!
16.
Hager is MVP which is a distinction greater than first or second team.  The girls earning the superlative distinctions are not listed again on first or second team.  District 38 girls have been doing All District this way for many years.
Not knowlegable of the way UIL is run, being following TAPPS the past 4 years, but when I went to the actual web site and saw the Superlative distinctions it became clear to me. Thanks.
17. Is Natalie Hagar's name missing off of the first team All District list? Odd she would be MVP (most deserving) and not on the list.. I guess that is a given
18. Well I went out to take in a game of the up and comers U12's... I heard there were two ODP state team participants that had also been invited to go to the Region 3 camp... which is a special honor in itself. Although the game was very entertaining and I heard some parents going absolutely nuts.(man is that what I used to sound like).. what was REALLY special about last night was the training taking place on the surrounding fields during the game.  I heard the Nederland coach was doing a training session.. there was also a college level coach doing another training session with children far below the level he is commonly used to dealing with ( Giving back to the community) .. I saw an old friend Raphael Hernandez from Port Arthur taking his group out to practice and I heard through the grapevine that other local High School coaches are coming out to see the program as well as SSSC trainers going to  share their time and skill with the Gulf Coast Family.. I do not know about you but I see this as a huge movement towards unifying the powers that be to help better prepare the local talent pool to compete with the Big boys ( ie Albion, Challenge Eclipse etc.). I have to admit that I was one of the big supporters to let Albion come and start a satelite program here. Now I will be the first to admit that I am glad no one listened..  Good work John, Chris, Jan, Alfred, SSSC. Gulfcoast and all in involved... It looks like soccer has a bright future in the Golden triangle. ;D
19. I came and saw a very entertaining game.. Local soccer is in good hands... Good work John (BMT SSSC) and Chris Carter ( Jasper version SSSC). Yall both have a lot to look forward to.
20. :D  my two cents, since our high school soccer is long gone bye bye!
21.
There are tons of 13 inch bucks on the moore plantation.   You must be a rookie!
And some FAT Does too!
22. 9-0 Blood bath.... The regular WB fans were kindof bored... any soccer game is a good soccer game for me especially since Kelly's season ended over a month ago. WB looked like they will still be the tops of the district with their younger players next year. It was good to see Hannah Babin, Lisl Ost, Kathy, Lizzy and Laura playing well in their last regular season home game as a Bruin. National Cup will be starting soon so I will get a few more fixes before the summer kicks in. Good luck to all the local teams in the playoffs. RIP
23. No girl?  Let me plug one in, Super Gold and perennial All Stater.. Madeline Horning.
24. Bianca Garza in the goal had to be the difference in the shootout... Was not there just speculation.
