1. Spoke to Sharktooth and he said Chloe is doing really well St Edwards!
 2. First things first... she passed her fitness test. I was concerned about that. She has been practicing with the number ones so she may see playing time against the Baylor Bears this Saturday... How is your girls or guys doing? Doctor Dave, Sharktooth? Anyone have an update on Caitlyn Stowes Dad? I was told by Emily Hughes he may have had a stroke? Coach L... you know anything about this?
 3. There is no date set as of today. As someone stated earlier, this will be a great asset to the whole community ( entire golden triangle and beyond) when it does happen. Good things always take time!
 4.
It is best to learn brain surgery from a successful brain surgeon.  Until U.S. has some success, they will need to look to the outside to show us the way.  Klinsmann certainly falls into that category.
Ditto... You have to have a been there done that mentality for this job... The Europeans are way ahead of us in this category... Well just today Real Madrid signed a 7 yr Kid...why?  They are thinking out of the box. This is their sport.. ours is the NFL, NBA or MLB..  this is what they do. and do it well. Which brings us to the bigger struggle to winning World Cups and such... our top athletes  do not play soccer for the most part.. not to say Landon Donovan is not a superior athlete.. I would put his fitness against any other of our major sports figures but.. from a pure size, speed equation and maybe not from just a physical make up ( I am debating myself)  maybe it is more from experience  coupled with athleticism... Which brings me to my other point unrelated to this topic.. The women have more success because they do not have a more powerful entity ( money maker) drawing the best female athletes away from soccer... Therefore they win  or contend for more championships. Good hire... no doubt
 5. Awesome game.. my daughter was routing for the enemy..So Un-American!  Oh what a sweet victory. I am glad that Hope recovered from her fiasco that got her removed from the team ( was that the last World Cup) and to rise to the occasion... With the minutes winding down.. I keep texting my daughter just watch this ( like I new Abby was going to come through) but really in the back of my mind.. I was thinking the US had been robbed. 11-10 for 55minutes red card..yellow.. fouls not given in the box for the US and then it happened! I texted my daughter ABBY WAM-BACK of the Net BABY!!!!

 7.
Very much a class act. SSSC was fortunate to have him training the players for the past 4 years. I coached against him and his teams always showed up ready to play. I gave up my team this year so that my daughter could be trained by Jan at Select. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.  There is a great article in the Sports Illustrated archives from 1982 about him. So long Flying Dutchman!
[Hidden Content] awesome five-o!
Donot be shy sharktooth post Chloe's schedule.. you too DoctorDave put up Natatalies!!!
[Hidden Content]
Nice.. there are some good soccer teams on that schedule... I would love to see the Rice Game.. we have a former player starting on that team in defense Rachel Petmecky..it just happens to occur on my 50th birthday and I think my wife is throwing a party.
 9. If you were not at the Cris Quinn Soccer Complex location SSSC Field #1... YOU MISSED IT! It was an amazing turnout.. hundreds of people.. the young and the old school. To honor Jan.. I do not know  if we will see anything like it again. Well maybe for Coach Mike Hughes.. not anytime soon for sure. The Van Beveren family were all in attendance for the ceremony. Nathan Brandemarte and Kelly Krouter spoke words of kindness and love about many of our kid's hero. True Class event. I was telling a parent that we were truly blessed to have men like Cris Quinn, Jorge Cruz and Jan Van Beveren to pass thru our lives. I hope the next generation of soccer players and fans are just as fortunate. God Bless you all

 12. I thought by now this topic would have already been posted but for you that did not know Jan Van Beveren passed away at his apartment in Beaumont yesterday.  Jan was 63yrs old. Still a young man by today's standards. I do not know if many of the local soccer folks really realized what we had in Jan.. a very dynamic player in his day. Yes I will agree he could be brash at times or better described as brutally honest but still he possessed a wealth of soccer knowledge that may never be available to this area again... I think it was miraculous that he ever landed here in Beaumont.  I think it may be many years before the true impact of his loss is actually felt.  I know a lot was expected of Jan and some believe he may not have delivered to their expectations.. but that will never diminish the true greatness that was Jan Van Beveren. I am telling you it was like having Roger Staubach here to teach football or Larry Byrd to teach basketball.. not something that will happen very often in our small community. He was considered a legend in his country and he lived up to the accolades. If it were not for politics he would have lead his team to a World Cup final or even Championship. We will not meet many soccer players of his caliber to take up residence here in Beaumont and sacrifice a comfortable life with his wife in Dallas to teach our kids the game and for that he has earned my utmost respect. He truly loved our kids.  I do not know about you but I loved to "Name Drop" his name throughout the country whenever I had the chance.  I am still amazed I could call him a friend and had one of the most exciting and memorable road trips with him, Mike, and Vic our Wifes and kids to South Carolina for a President's Cup Championship in 2009 via RV thanks to coach Mike.... Jan kept us in stitches laughing with his quick wit and humor. He was a riot! I will never forget his favorite line " Are you kidding me! " Jan I will miss you man! Rory [Hidden Content] thanks for the article doctordave.... This article says it all folks!

 16.
That is VERY IMPRESSIVE!  I will also have to state that I can attest personally the dedication of a couple of local dads!  Rory and Matt ...thank you from the bottom of my heart on letting Chloe catch rides with each of you to and from practice and games!  Each of your dedication to your daughters allowed mine to be able to step up to the next level of soccer!  There would have been no way otherwise with the schedule I run with my two younger boys.  Thank each of you again....
No Problem... is Chloe in for the U19 team if it forms?
 17. Well the girls showed up in San Marcos to play for the South Texas State title...at stake a chance to advance to the Region 3 finals in Tennessee to face the best teams in the 13 state region. First game was against Lone Star North the #1 WDDOA seed but the weaker of the two coming from the west. We draw first blood.. with a goal in the first minute and with the wind for the first half this is very important.. wind was blowing 25mph from left to right and definitively had a influence on what the opposing team could do with the ball. 12th man for real!!! We scored another goal... and went in 2-0 at the half.. comfortable but not secure. They also capitalized on the wind advantage  and scored two to equalize... final 2-2. Not what hope for but satisfactory. Next game was against the 800 lb gorilla the Lone Star Red #16 in the nation.. we are ranked 92nd. last meeting was a 5-0 blowout. This time they had the wind for the first half and they scored 2.. which I considered a win for us because it could easily been more.. Not that we played bad.. we actually played very well ... but they are just too strong and tooo deep. I was confident that we could do something now that we had the 12th man in our favor... but I was wrong we conceded another goal to finish 3-0... believe it or not quite admirable. Again you are facing a team that is TRULY Stacked ( with players going to North Carolina, Texas and A&M to name a few... our combination of North and South... would do good to hold them to 10!) heck they would probably beat the boys South Team and a combo of the two. NO kiddin. Well we are not going to Tennessee but we do have a chance to go out on top with a win over the EDDOA #1 seed Eclispe Black and a team that had beat us 2-1 in the prelims to get to State. We are off to a good start by winning the coining toss  and we have the wind advantage for the first half... Lets bury them early.. and we get a goal in the first couple of minutes... then we play the rest of the first half to a 1-0 lead.. NOT GOOD.. NOT Comfortable.. They now have the wind and some big legs that can score from mid field.. heck their goalie was actually punting the ball nearly the full field. We come out the 2nd half and do the impossible and score another goal going into the the force field wind.. and now I am feeling a little better.. not relieved but better.   We held Strong (Bailey with some unbelievable saves... just as she did in  the North/ South game.) and it made the difference... Chloe threatened the goal on a few occasions and even contributed to one of our goals I believe... very solid play.  And Zuri was her usual self.. out jumping most of the defenders to give us an advantage on most throw-ins and playing some good threw balls and winning some 50/50s. I am very proud of our South East Texas girls... they showed up an played very well... They helped their team to a 1-1-1 record and finish 2nd in a very competitive field (outside of Lone star Red) ! I thought it was over for Zuri on the club level.... but the girls were texting on the way home and said they wanted to form a U19 team for next year ( do not know all the details) but the girls said the Lone Star team was going to do it.. so they said heck... why do not we.... That dried my "last club day" tears up real quick and gave the old man some hope!   See ya soon around someones soccer field.. RIP Oh I forgot....the best part for the girls anyway.. the Super Team Mom Kathy Petmecky(who's daughter left to play for Rice a year earlier... now how many folks would have hung around toting ice chest and canopies to every Fall and Spring game for the full year after your kid had split) Gave each player (18) a hand made shawl of all different patterns that matched each girls College choice school colors!  Now that blew me away.. her husband said he had been doing the cooking and cleaning for the full year it took her to meet her objective! Speaking of Husband Robert... go to You tube and put in AHFC or Houtex pilot and see how he committed his time the past few years.. making game footage of every game ... complete with soundtrack.... talk about really cool... our girls will forever live on in cyber space and my daughter can tell her grand children... look what maw-maw could do when she was your age... Super Coool! Yeah if you are a team mom or soccer dad.. you are going to have to step up your game to catch the Petmeckys.... Real Christian Spirit!
 18. Finished 1-1-1 for a solid 2nd place against South Texas's Best teams. It was a Final Four... high points winner take all. Teams included  the AHFC, Eclispe Black, Lone Star Red ( Nationally Ranked #16 with players committed to Texas, Texas A&M and perennial power house North Carolina) and Lone Star Red North. Climate was a blistering 90+ degrees with a 25mph wind going left to right. Rest of the game details in topic, Bailey, Chloe Zuri. A little Paul Harvey for ya!
 19. Going to San Marcos this weekend to play the big Dogs... wish us luck! Unless we advance to the Regionals this will be Zuri an the gangs last club or high school age soccer.  WOW!
 20.
Just curious..... If they won Director's Cup last year, how is it that they aren't in President's Cup this year?
Do not know the specifics but.... usually it depends on your ranking amongst all gender specific teams in your age class in the EDDOA. You sign up for the Cup that you will most be competitive  and have success.. Mikes 93 Team won President's Cup 3 times.. Once at U11 and consecutively at U15 and U16... We went up to National Cup once or twice my mind slips me but it was not a pleasurable experience ... being the hyper competitive guy I am... I told Mike lets move up and play the Big Dogs.. You got to beat the best to be the best... Well the sheer numbers game gave me a rude awakening... Yes we could field a team of 11 and be some what competitive for 15 or 20 minutes but we did not have the depth to stay competitive throughout the whole game... ending in 3-1,4-0, 5-2 losses. I think we went 0-5 that Spring.... I tell you that will cure the ego real quick... Its a lot more fun to win and everybody including the parents have a better time. Ask the U18/19 Dynamos... they just played 4 National Cup games and ended with a -16 goal differential.. 18 against and 2 for!  They are a good team just not deep enough to compete with the top teams from Eclipse, Challenge, Albion and Space City Premier.. So that is it in a nut shell the coach should stay where they can have the most success and be competitive.. It is no fun losing every weekend ( no matter how good it is for character building).  And conversely it is no fun blowing everyone out either. There is no substitute for a close.. hard fought.. 1 goal victory!
 21.
North girls win 4-3. Great play by both teams. Bailey had an exceptional game in the North goal, and that was the difference.
Absolutely correct... Bailey did save the North pardon the pun.. but I believe that it was Natalie's efforts that proved why she was most deserving of the MVP if there were any doubters... not the largest in stature but has a Huge heart and determination to WIN!  Great Job Nat!!!! And let me not forget Emily Hughes which denied many opportunities and attacks by the North... another person small in Stature but Huge in Heart! Of course there were many other contributors but these two stand out in my mind!
 22.
I must say I am little bit frustrated by the lack of coverage for this event. The Enterprise did not even run an article or anything about it today. Did not even mention it in todays paper! 16 schools are being represented tonight by seniors from the boys and girls side. if that is not news worthy material I dont know what is! I contacted all three news media outlets and to my knowledge the only one that showed up for any practice was Dave Hof over at Ch 12. Thanks to Ch 12 for promoting our kids.
I agree Coach L  poor coverage... if it wasn't for this board.. I would not have heard about it. And you can always count on tha Hauf....oh that's another super star!!! We love you Hof.
 23.
RIP...I agree with you 100 percent.  The North is too Deep!  But as they say, you have to play the game!  I wish they would have evened things out a bit by splitting the Kelly Girls up and share the wealth!  Regardless it will be fun to watch these Seniors one more time lace them up before moving on! See ya there!
We are going to play the game... 5 O'clock.. BE THERE... and wear your red and black for support of coach Mike and the 93 G!
