1. Steve text me today from San Antonio and said they tied their first game 0-0. The other two teams tied 0-0 as well. At 1:00pm they played their 2nd game and won 2-0. This was against the WDDOA #1 seed. One more to go tomorrow and with a win they can be the DIVII U19 state champs.  This team is made up of mostly juniors and sophomores so they could have a few good years left. They have been invited to move up to the Super II status in the Fall. Great Job Girls.
2.

Just yesterday in Buna I found a fresh scrape near my stand with recent activity.  Evidently the rut is not totally over.
The fat lady hasn't sang. I think the rut is the most misunderstood and misguessed thing about deer hunting. The rut always extends over an extended period. Does will go back into estrus if not bred the first time. Doe population has a great impact on the length and timing of the rut. The rut is not caused or initiated by cold weather and a few other tidbits. Anyone that can pinpoint the rut in a given area consistently and in a very narrow time frame (as in 90% of deer are bred in that small time frame), then they can be millionaires.
I like your thinking!
Just yesterday in Buna I found a fresh scrape near my stand with recent activity.  Evidently the rut is not totally over.
That's good news Bear. I am trying to figure out a way to get to the woods asap. Have a few minor obstacles: Work, Church, Honey doos etc... Maybe Sunday evening or Monday
4.
Dr James Kroll, I'm not, BUT I've never seen a doe urinate on a rub, google, 'why do deer make scrapes' or why don't you put a trail cam up on a rub and see how much activity you get of deer using it...
Sorry 643 about the Kroll comment, It seems that when ever you read anything about the rut, Those two things ( rubs and scrapes) go together. They are just communication devices like cell phones and email... different but both are used to communicate. I did have some success once, climbing a tree right after discovering a fresh as I described rub. I have also had some success doctoring a fresh scrape with some Tinks 69. There are no guarantees, for me the fresh rub was just something to keep the enthusiasm up on what is the back side of a waning East Texas season. I have a little meat in the freezer from opening day. I would just like to see if I could out smart that ol buck who has made it past a few hunts in his day. Good huntin to ya! rip .25-06
5. Aaron Strawser should be factor in helping the girls score goals she a great fall in EDDOA and the twins (Cathy and Lizzy) should supply some fire works. Both had a good fall season as well.
6. Walking around deer lease ( in the area of 255 and 96) today 12/8/09 saw signs of new rub. fresh shavings on the ground looked to be no more than 12 to 24 hours old. Branch torn off of small tree... leaves had not wilted. Friend told me it must be the secondary rut. There were multiple small trees hit in this fashion ( rub line) seems this buck was pissed. What do you think? Friend shot a nice 8pt this past Saturday, other than that no other deer seen.
7. SSSC U19 team going to STATE FINALS in San Antonio this Weekend 12/12! ;D Good luck Girls!
8. Ruger M77 .25-06 (inherited from grandpa) thus name rip2506. gun loves 115gr. win supreme. Has never missed. All deer dropped in tracks including big South Tx, buck. guide was telling me the gun was too light. Tried  Hornady SST's got complete pass throughs on two deer opening weekend but deer traveled a bit 20-25yds. Gun does not group as well with SST's so my confidence is not there for longer shots.(Found out SST's group very well, it was just the shooter ME!) Old Marlin (Ward's Westernfield) 30/30 when in the tree stand or still hunting. Love that gun. Interesting how I got it. was trying to buy a 30/30 a couple of years back on the day after Christmas and my i.d. was expired.DPS office closed for the holidays so I was headed up 62 towards Buna when a friend called and I told him the story about wanting to buy a gun, he said heck I have one I will give ya. I said where are you, he said not in town but my wife is home in Bridge City. Needless to say I hauled butt to B.C. Gun shoots great. Under 1" at 100yds. cheap ammo 150gr win. Has alot of wear and character on the stock. Although he said he pops..  did not hunt much. Model 70 win. in 300wby mag. doesn't get much field time although it is the best shootin of the bunch. Rest in Peace .25-06!
9. Hernandez team wins their 4th straight game 1-0. With a goal from Lauren Zeto ( a Kelly High School Sophomore) with 15 secs left in the game!
10. After doing some long contemplation I have decided to take the bias out of my vote and answer the question myself in this fashion. Who would the most talented girls in local soccer say was the Best female soccer player in the Golden Triangle. I think if you would poll each school or club with girls who have many years of experience in Div 1 soccer, the majority vote would go to Yasmine Afshar. She is a perfect Blend of Speed, agility, field presence. Her vision and intuition are ranked with the best player's boy or girl. Her first touch and dribbling skills could land her a starting role on any Div 1 premier level team in Houston. She is not playing premier or ODP level soccer, only because she has chosen not to. Lesson to the Parents: It's o.k. if your child decides not to want to pursue a career in soccer although we know they could. Ultimately it is there choice. That is one of the special things I admire about Claire Dykeman, she made the difficult decison to for go all the relationships she had established in soccer and follow HER goal to play the highest level soccer available to one of our kids. So with that said Yasi #7 gets my vote. You can come and watch Yasi do her thing Monday night at Kelly Stadium at 6:00pm as they host Barbe out of Lake Charles. Go Dawgs.
11. Steve's Team just posted their 3rd victory in the Div II State Playoffs. They are now in 1st place With 2 games to go. You go Girls! :o
12.
Nt disputing her talent, but why would you include someone who is injured and out for the year?
Because she is that good! My bad I will add her to the list, the U17 team hopes to have her back in the Spring. Come on Nancy you can do it! Coincidentally, there are two other players on that list that are recovering from ACL reconstrutive surgery, but that does not diminish their talent and or what they have accomplished or added to the game of soccer. Not to mention what they mean to their teammates. Speedy recovery to all mentioned above and good health to ALL Golden Triangle soccer players.

Job well done by a guy who has spent the last 12 years doing one thing, and that is building the best girls team to EVER come out of the Triangle! 3 Time EDDOA South Texas President's Cup State Champions (04 U11, 08 U15, 09 U16) 1 Time Region 3 President's Cup Finalist 08 1 Time Region 3 President's Cup Quarterfinalist 09 With the opportunity to become a 4 Time State Champion, and this time the Region 3 Champion. (2010) Also in the Region other than the 5 States mentioned above is Arkansas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. Big ups to Steve Hernandez's U-19 team, (many of these players are sophomores) who are battling this weekend in the State Play offs for Div II. They are currently 2-0, with 3 games to go. Another team with multiple members of many of the same if not all of the local High Schools! ps. Zuri Prince is trying to make a move on that Best in the Triangle honors. She has 11 goals in her last 3 high school games and 2 more in the Texas Cup, however Yasmine Afshar had 4 goals in the Texas Cup, many to determine the outcome of the game. I guess Yasi turns it on when there is scholarship money on the line.lol. But just like the Heisman.... The Colt McCoys and Tim Tebow's of the World could not even come close without the outstanding play of their defense. Great work... Teilor Long, Biannca Garza, Madeline Horning,Layken Richard , Hannah Babin, Emily Hughes, Aaron Stawser and all the other team members ok what was the original question?
14. Have Coach Bates call Mike Hughes, His U17 club team could give them a nice tune up before district play. Chloe and Natalie have the number.
15. I know Brianna, she comes from a great soccer family. Just a GREAT family in general! Her mother was my assistant coach at U9. Kind of crazy Barbara new much more about the game than I did and I was the head coach. Who is that All district  defender we are missing. Name em!
16. My list of potential canidates in NO particular order. Madeline Horning(defense) Aaron Strawser(midfield) Yasmine Afshar (midfield) Claire Dykeman (forward) Layken Richard (defense) Lauren Washburn (defense) Zuri Prince (forward) Chloe Chiasson (forward) Natalie Hagar (forward) Biannca Garza (keeper) Bailey Fontenot (keeper) Emily Hughes (midfield) Caitlyn Stowe (forward) Teilor Long (defense) Nancy Alverez (forward) let the debate begin :D
17. Kelly must have won the PNG tournament the year prior. I have a little wager for you INJUNFAN. If Kelly wins you paint your house Black and Gold!  LOL
18. Two of PNG's top players play with my daughter on her club team as does 4 of the 5 top Kelly players. I would give the nod to Kelly this year and next as those top player are all juniors. With that said, Kelly will have a chance to meet PNG at the Winter Classic on or around Jan 7th. Stay tuned for the results. If I am not mistaken Kelly won the Indians tournament in one of the last two years. When these girls were sophomore's or freshman. I do not recall which. No knock on PNG.... my neice is an Indian. Just responding to Friendswood's assumption that the current Kelly team could not compete with said Indians. Sorry Friendswood I have an inside track and you are off base. Now as for all the other public schools in and around Houston, I have no knowledge which to voice a valid opinion. Sorry about the quote, it was my first post and as you can see I still do not have it right! :D
