1. Friday's Match between Brazil and Netherlands  should be a good one. It will be interesting to see who can create a good look between both of those stingy defenses. Chile was in postion a few times today but good not get the ball thru.
2.
Altidore needs to GET HIS HEAD IN THE GAME! Tons of talent, but does not deliever. Needs to wake up!
I agree, He should not look towards the future and say, I'll be back... He should play every game as if it was his last. It could very well be...Davies never anticipated he would have been in a life threatening auto accident. Leave it on the fields boys. I hope there is a kid somewhere getting his game honed for 2014. We need a bonafide EPL level super star to rise up out of the ash.   Someday it will happen that is why we are the USA!         I cannot wait!
3. It was great match. USA needs to stop allocating the opponent the first goal. Phenomenal finish (2nd goal) by Ghana striker.  I would like to see more of that from Altidore. It seems we have many set-up men but no go to guy to put the team on his back, like a Kobe Bryant. Hmm I heard Kobe could play a little soccer.... Landon has one more shot (will be 32) at being a serious contributor to a World Cup team. Altidore on the other hand has at least 3 given good health. Still Love Dempsey's TEXAS Grit! ;)
4.
I'm sick that i'm going to miss watching the US game live tomorrow, but i committed to the SETXsports fishing tourney a long time ago, way before we knew the US would be playing tomorrow.  I'm DVRing it, but it's not quite the same as watching it live.
Actually it was better for me bullets. I went back and watched a good bit of the game against Algeria last night with a more normal pulse rate and knowing the outcome help me focus on just the finer points of the American's play. And my summation was they played a heck of a game, offensively and defensively... They did give away a few cardiac shots that nearly cost them the match but all in all the played well including Landon. I do not know what got into me the other day and why I had the case of the Haterades for Landon. We could not have won it without him.  I hope they put Ghana away early.. I will be at the Buffallo Wild Wings in the Rice Village with a bottle of oxygen and some aspirin. Just in case they decide to wait until stoppage time again.  One interesting stat that the commentators raised the other day was that the US team had scored more goals in after the 86 minute thatn any team in the tourney.  They knew they had it all along  :D
5.
What about the girls?
Keep your eyes open for 2011... It should be a bumper crop! I put the over/under at 10 on the girls side... Alot of talent in that class.
6. I was a wreck for 92 minutes. Robbed, missed opportunities. Algeria missed some wide open looks as well. It was a story book ending.
7.
The US will play Ghana on Saturday.  This is a very winnable game for them, so we might see another trip to the quarterfinals.
You think?  What am I not seeing in the US tatics and performance. I thought Clint Dempsey played his Nacadoches rear end off. I was asking myself the whole game where is Donovan the alleged best player in US history. I have not watched alot of Donovan's play so I am not claiming to be any kind of authority, but what I look for in a game such as Algeria is passion and will.. Clint exemplfied that the whole game. I watched Landon and Mike Bradley fade away just after losing possesion. That is not what I teach my kids... If you lose it go get it back.. To me the American Side just does not look atheletic enough( Speed to out race defenders to the goal or corners and the physical strength and size to man handle the opposing attacks... albeit Demerit did a superb job. Not so sure about the other 3..) to tangle with the Big Guys. Ghana on the other hand was up and down the field in a furious pace. What am I missing.  I watch alot of Barcelona so I understand the idea of controlling the game with possesion, but Barcelona and others like Brazil who like to bring the ball in close, seem to be able to finish at will. I guess it helps to have Lionel Messi.. Or Real Madrid's Ronaldo or Higuain.. not to mention the next terror from Brazil Ronaldbinho (sp). Am I asking too much of Landon.  Now Tim Howard.. He kicks butt! We seemed to have alot of chances, but we also narrowly escaped a lethal goal in the first few seconds of the game. It was a nice win! I just was not enjoying the 92minutes of heart palpatations and the feeling that we let one get away. If they come out a post 2 or more goals early against Ghana they should most certainly win, however if they wait til the 92nd minute they will be going home.
8.
looks like this team lost yet another player to Albion.
Yes that is true. but I heard they have gotten one back from Albion, that being Rachel Babin. What i hope is that when a position is vacated by a player another player finds an opportunity to fill that void and improve and expand their game. The 93G team has proven again and again to be very resilent and I expect them to have another fine season again next fall. They still have several core members and several 2 and 3 year vets to pick up the slack. They will win alot of games next year. ;)
9. Job Well Done by Coach Johnson!  I am sure the girls will miss her. I hope Rafa has the same kind of success, I wish him well.. His daugher and mine have been Bffs  forever she was over there last night.
10. :D Ha Ha, I was talking to Mike Hughes today and he said that I had posted somewhere on SETX that Chloe was the #1 recruit in the Nation in the 2011 Class.  I asked myself, Where did I post that? The name up above is Chioma Ubogagu, she is of African decent and was living in London as of 7yrs ago. She is currently living in Dallas and plays with the D'Feeters, Now how does that get twisted to Chloe from PN-G? Crazy , as much as I am a huge fan of Chloe, this is not the same young lady.
11.
Thanks Rip can you tell me what website it was?
Gotsoccer.com. You build youself a profile, which is free and then you just look for tournaments. They rank the tournaments in order of importance. The higher the ranking the more likely there will be many scouts there to watch the players. Tournaments like Disney, Las Vegas, Surf Cup etc. You can probably find something closer to home such as Dallas or Houston.. I was told today that Mike Hughes plans on taking his SSSC 93 G team to the Labor Day showcase in Dallas. Good luck
12. Final Day was HOOOTTTT! Zuri and AHFC 93G blue beat a spunky Colorado Springs group 1-0 on a beautiful low cross and finish. Just as I drew it up in my mind. SSSC 93G played one of the best games I saw all weekend. Fell behind 0-2 in the first half to a very good team from Forth Worth. Then on the speed of Emily Hughes and Kaitlyn Stowe, tenacity of Haley Shipman and the " I am always in the right place at the right time" timing of Natalie Hagar, they put in their first goal. I may have a few of the names mixed up, but I am sure Natalie finished the goal. Haley was definately in there softening up the defense with some (legal) body blows. And Emily, Caitlyn and Lisl Ost was for sure streaking down the side line making cross after perfect cross for someone to get onto. All I can really remember is they made in the neighborhood of 6 to 8 passes starting from in the back and the ball was in the net. And of course Jan looks over to me and says, that is soccer and I nod in agreement. It surely was. Moments later another ball came in an if I am not mistaken Chloe finished this one, to pull them to level. Chloe was having a great time with her new found friend #4 from Forth Worth...  but I will let her tell you about that one. You know how these sweet young ladies can be when they step on the soccer field :o  Well the game goes back and forth, mostly forth with Spindletop finding renewed energy and strength. Defense was very stingy behind Horning, the Long sisters, Layken Richard and Hannah Babin. Of Course Yasi was doing what she does facilitating offense and dominating the middle. It was a total team effort. I am sad to say I need some help on who scored the winning goal (3rd), but It looked like Chloe was robbed(of what would have been the teams 4th goal) after being taken down in the box by her buddy #4 and company. She took the penalty and the keeper deflected it and Chloe followed the shot and tapped what appeared to be a ball across the line. The center waived it off. Now someone who knows soccer explain this to me. Can the person taking the penalty follow their shot and score a deflected shot or dropped ball by the keeper? I thought so but I am not very good with the rules. GREAT GAME!  Glad I was there to see it! The Airforce coach, University of Arkansas at little Rock and U T of Tyler each took in some or all of the game. Some one should be getting an email. 8) And Girls donot be afraid to be the one's to initiate the email blasts.
13. Another good day for SSSC93G. Not so good for Zuri and the AHFC 93G blue. They lost 0-2 to the Laguna Hills Eclipse White 92-93. :-\ Still plenty of scouts in the area. We will see what comes of it. One more game tomorrow! ;)
14. Went and saw Chioma, #1 2011 recruit.. was a little disappointed, only because in 20 minutes of play she only touched the ball 4 to 6 times and she dished it off each time, then they sub her out. I was already late for work so I could not stay and watch the 2nd half for her return. You could tell there was something different about her... Like a panther stalking its prey, very patient, not getting in any hurry, just waiting for the unsuspecting victum to make a mistake. Then Gotcha! If it tells you something the Head Coach of  A&M left as soon as she left the field as well. However the Great news is that our southeast texas girls drew the attention of some scouts.. I know SMU,SFA and UT at Dallas was doing some inquiries. I got a list of 51 coaches that were at our game. From Air Force to West Piont. Angelo State, Ball State, Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Kansas, Marquette, Penn, Colorado to name a few... Well everyone still have games Sat. and Sunday and we will keep ya posted. I am going back to my perch. Rip ps Chloe and the SSSC girls had a very good game against a group from Utah.
15. Southeast Texas girls get to show their stuff in front of many of the nations top coaches. Florida State, A&M, Notre Dame, LSU just to name a few... And if you have the Ivy league academics.. Yale and Havard will be present. I know SSSC will have at least 4 teams in attendance... Really impressed with the 98 draw... They are playing some studs! The 93 girls are the team to beat in their group. A few weeks back I was talking about my opportunity to see 2012 24th rank recruit in the nation Jordan Hatler. quite a treat I might add.. Well folks I have done my research and the 17Th ranked D'Feeters 93 (Hughes Team is ranked 180 out of a possible 1500+.. which is not shabby by NO MEANS) that posses the #1 ranked 2011 recruit and U18 national team player Chioma Ubogagu on their roster, who I might add is already committed to Stanford.. will be playing at 3:00pm Friday and I will have a ring side seat... As I told someone else I love to watch greatness, especially in it's infancy. As a famous onetime Dallas Cowboy once said. "Get yer Popcorn ready" Hope to see some of you there. ps.  Big UPS to STEVE HENANDEZ'S U19 TEAM FOR WINNING THE DIRECTOR'S CUP STATE TITLE!!!!!!
16. Trader :D Could he have made our squad?  I feel dumb asking that question but I have never seen him play.. To busy watch Ronaldinho went I get a chance to catch Milan.... I do not even care if they win the game..I just want to see the flash of greatness one more time.
17. There were no seniors on the Kelly girls team this year. ZP has the Texas Shootout coming up in the first of June to give them ( college scouts) their last looksee. Will update you after the tournament.
18.
If the high school coaches can get their teams to at least play in the local league.  Then at least they are touching a soccer ball throughout the fall.  And go into the high school practice and season having seen games and played in games for a few months with their high school team mates.  They may not be playing in Houston or div one.  But they will at least have played together.  However some of the local youth just dont want to make the commitment for even ten saturdays in fall.  Coaches in high school should try anyway to push the kids out to the fields.  .
I heard the Clemson Soccer Coach once say that, he would get very excited when he would see his guys, just start a pick-up game on the weekends, just to get those valuable touches... No refs, no coaches, just the kids.. I think that is what seperates many other countrys from the U.S.... those pick-up games ( for soccer) are far and few between.  Now basketball, that's another story... pick-up games everywhere. Keep working at it coach.
19. Spindletop played a very inspired and exciting game in the final, which ended a 2-2 draw. However they finished 2nd by 1 point. posting a 2-0-1 record. I think they will have one more shot at a 4th title next Spring. Good Season Coach Mike and the Girls!
20.
haha!!!  would love to be there!  Good luck to the girls tomorrow and home they bring home another state championship!
Not counting too many chickens before they hatch, because that is what happened to Zuri and her teams State run, but will you be back for the trip to O.K. if God blesses them with another title? It will be in about 3 weeks.
21. Very astute observation SFA... I do not know how this is going to sound, but it is coming from the bottom of my heart.. I thought with the changing of demographics ( more hispanics) in our area, especially southeast of beaumont that there would be a new growth spurt for soccer especially on the boys side.  I know the guys I work with, many from several different countries south of the border, they LOVE their Soccer. They already told me that when the World Cup starts they will be getting off early the entire month. And they MEAN it. So I am surprise. Maybe it is economics.. I do not know.
22.
Thanks RIP for the updates....in Alabama for the Oil spill cleanup and its killing me that im not there to see it!
I think some of that oil is seeping up the riverwalk... They are dialing your number hurry!
23.
Thanks RIP for the updates....in Alabama for the Oil spill cleanup and its killing me that im not there to see it!
Chloe scored 2 goals in the 2nd game to help lead Spindletop to a 2-0 victory. Sharkstooth I am getting all of this via text message myself. Championship game tomorrow at 10am for all the marbles.
24. Spindletop up 2-0 at the Half.  1st goal came from a Horning Free Kick and Chloe header. 2nd goal was a Messi esque recieve and turn upper 90 bullet from the foot of Yasmine Afshar! Yasi put in a 2nd goal to secure a 3-0 victory. Next game should  get started at 6:pm  this evening.
25. Hughes and company going to do battle in the Alamo City. To see if they can bring home a 4th President's Cup State Title . First Game 10:00am Sat. I'll try to keep you guys posted! Chloe we need the leading Texas scorer to unleash the fury on them! No scoring limit in these games. 10 would suit me fine! ;D Good Luck Girls!
