1. Strawser log upwards of 35 minutes in their game against UTSA. dang good for a freshman if you ask me.
2. Hughes 93 G was representing this past week.. The legacy lives on ! Starting with Bailey Fontenot in goal for the Lady Cardinals.. the sophomore goal keeper kept a clean sheet throughout the half against UTSA... Lamar scored in the first half and held the lead throughout the half behind Fontenot. Game ended 1-1. Goal scored against Bailey's Backup.. not her fault it was a  PK. Friday night Freshman mid fielder Aaron Strawser played upwards of 35 minutes for the Lady Long Horns... Awesome for a freshman on any team. Saturday night is when the fire works started.. with sophomore transfer Emily Hughes partnering up with Natalie Hagar (two former 93G players as well as Natalie being the 2011 Super Gold MVP) for HBU Lady Huskies against another former 93G Caitlyn Stowe for the Sam Houston Bear kats.  Hughes scored a goal that would tie the game up 1-1. And the game would end in a draw. I know Mike and Anna were elated with Emily's performance who usually keep a very humble demeanor of their very talented daughter. Finally Zuri Prince and Bianca Garza would meet up in Nacogdoches where the two former teammates would square off. Zuri got the best of the meeting scoring 4 goals and an assist to cap off a career best night. All and all and awesome representation of the hard work that Mike Hughes and his former team put in on and off the training field. Will keep you posted as more develops.
3. Best birthday present a father could receive!! [Hidden Content]
4. I believe Aaron may have silenced a few critics by being only one of two incoming UT freshman out of 9 that recieved thier game gear and lockers. A sign of good things to come. As far as I know ( and as proud as I am of my own daughter) I believe Aaron is the first beaumont woman to play soccer at the Big 12 level !!!! Great Job Aaron and keep up the hard work!
5.
Was on Campbell land in Evadale and got off when they told us we could only shoot 120 class or better. Most deer on that lease will not have a chance to get that big even with the new rules.
I hear ya Piratefan... I have done some serious camera scouting this year and have covered about 3/4 of our 1100 acres.. there were only 2 or 3 that would get the nod of being close to 120...however I have seen an 8pt (with huge G2s) survive (from 2010 to present) by his on craftiness and the fact that when he lingered for 30 minutes in front of two of my friends during the 2010 hunting season he was illegal with a 12 inch inside spread max... fine looking deer I am telling you.. I would have shot and asked questions later. Now today going into the 2012 hunting season he is is a 9 point ( would have never guessed that ) with a non - typical point ( 3 or 4 inches long)... growing between is 7 inch browe tine on his left side and 10 to 11 inch G2... Can you say HOSS.. I have shown pictures of this deer to veteran deer hunters from eastex to Kansas and they all say that this is a Special... Special Eastex deer.. probably pushing top 130's to lower 140's ( friend of mine killed a 157 inch deer on public land just down the road from our lease so they are out there).....Now i get it you can shoot 200 inch deer all over this country and bigger if you got the bucks.. but for a free ranging eastex deer he is a trophy. I also get the fact that he is the only deer of his class on our 1100 acres.. last year I had two... a super fine 11pt with split browes (but he has vanished) and this guy.... I said all that to say this.. I for many years was a brown its down guy.. but now with the help of scouting cams I have seen tha light. There are some great deer out there if they can get to 5yrs old.. and that's the trick.. my super 9 is at least 5.5yrs old cause in 2010 he was a fine 8 pt that was just too narrow.. today he is 15 to 16 plus inside and I would have never guessed it.. I would and many others would tell you he will never be legal 13inches its in his genes to be narrow or more than a 8... never ever but I got proof and if I can figure our how to post pics I will send the proof. Now Campbell rules are as follows 14 inch inside OR 3.5 years old. The 3.5 i can deal with because that is not asking much.. that is when most of these bucks or just beginning to look like wall hangers but if you can show a little trigger control... you may find yourself with something very special like the buck I previously mentioned... I am telling you I hope he survives another year just to see the improvement if any.. the jury is still out on when a buck really maxes out it's true potential 4.5,5.5,6.5,7.  who knows... I will tell you this if big boy steps out in front of me.. WE will never find out cause I am carry a 300. wby mag  just for this special occasion... ( usually shoot a .2506 thus the name REST IN PEACE .2506 and yall thought that was my initials) to give him a DIRT NAP and brotha I have been burning shells and flinging arrows getting ready. 13 inch rule works... Campbell mandates will work.. price of leases will probably go up.... but I am going to enjoy tha ride. ps  good friend just left a south texas lease to enjoy the piney woods in bronson.. you say WHAT?  He said brotha I can fish ( bass, crappie) play golf and hunt deer in all in one area and have running water.. that's paradise.
6.
spoke with the enterprise yesterday...there will be no super gold teams this year.  >:(
WHAT!!!!!!  i came to this post to get my super gold fix.. i am only 3 months late!!
7. Thanks Be Smart!  Attended the meeting in Silsbee was very informative there were a few guys who were on or going to level 3 and all seemed excited about it.  There was one table that believed none of the this management theory would work in East Texas and we are all a bunch of out laws or too uneducated to fill out the required forms accurately or honestly.  I kind of took offense to those comments because most of us are honest and are willing to make the necessary sacrifices to see the improvements down the road... OR as my ol buddy used to say you can always go hunt type 2.. which brings up another common fear that the evil powers that be will raise the lease prices after we help grow all these massive deer... business is business and if it gets above my financial tolerance then there is always the Moore Plantation ( type 2) !
8. Just curious if anyone else is on Campbell property and how you feel about the new hunting mandates. I am a management minded individual and want to see and shoot more quality bucks but being forced to do so has a different flavor than doing it by club or individual want too.. if you know what I mean.. I am looking forward to the 2012-2013 season.. I have already seen a couple of good bucks that did not get killed last year showing up on my cameras... its cool watching their antlers grow back in. I will be at the meeting on June 2nd in Silsbee. Anyone on MLD level 2 or 3 and how has that effected your annual hunting experience since there is now a deer quota placed on you lease. How would you grade it. Major effect - could not shoot but one or two bucks till herd was balanced or improved. Little effect - still plenty of buck tags to go around No effect - same ol same ol... if you saw em you could take em if you choose to and were legal.. This is the area I think most concerns our membership that there will not be enough buck tags to go around. (11 members)  To me its like my opening statement ... shooting 11 bucks has never happened since I have been on the lease.. but being told you can only take 3 has a different taste to it.  Irregardless I will stay on the lease in hopes to benefit down the road. It doesn't hurt that I have a great spot and with the recent thinning have one of the last true sanctuary thickets left..
9. Chloe, Bailey and Zee had a great practice Monday!  I did not think I was going to be making that drive again.. I am glad they brought the team back for another Spring Cup.. It's  going to be cool!
10. Saw Dewi the other night at his new gig monitoring the soccer training at the club where he works... I told him his Lamar goalie ( Bailey Fontenot) Never looked better... she was making some incredible stops at practice that evening.  Dewi was a different Cat.... but he put that program on the map...SFA barely beat them 1-0 and went on to be conference champs.. I hope they find someone talented... What's the original Jorge Cruz doing?  That would be awesome for him to return to Beaumont... but I do not think his wife is having it. She likes the larger cities.
11. Since someone I know does not like plugging his on daughter I will.. Chloe Chiasson's St. Edwards squad had some very good results against the Texas Longhorns this spring... A win and a draw! Says a lot for the quality of players being recruited to St. Edwards. Speaking of St. Edwards I had a very close friend who has a daughter playing softball and she plans to attend St. Edwards as well and will be coached by  UT alum and US National Team star pitcher Cat Osterman.. one of my favorite softball players of all time.
12. I am seeing some future prospects.... kids under 12 playing tons of soccer.... an extra 5 hours a week just on Fridays and Saturdays outside their regular trainings and practices.
13. Those Bears are brutes! In a cute way of course they are ladies off the field.. but on the field they bring it! They were not the third best team in a field of nine....besting teams like Texas Tech, Texas, Kansas and Mizzou in the Big Twelve with a 5-2-1 in that conference  and  15-4-1 Overall for nothing. If you have the opportunity to play them be sure you are well adept at dodging, leaping over or taking the full brunt of a slide tackle with some bad INTENTIONS... because they come early and often... balls played in the air no problem.. they are 5 10 plus across the middle and maybe more and look like the offensive line of the cowboys... the Dallas Cowboys! Oh well how did the dainty Lady Jacks do you asked.. Held them to a 0-0 draw after two thirty minute halves and only conceded the winning goal after the second 15 minute overtime with 5 minutes left in the game. Zuri started and played all but 5 minutes of the beginning of the second half. Roughly 85 minutes total. final score Baylor 1  SFA 0. I was very proud of their effort. We will meet them again at their place in the regular season  sometime in September and looking for a different ( winning ) result. Coach Amato has beefed up our regular season 2012 schedule with matches against Baylor, Texas Tech, LSU and the University of Houston as well.. he is not leaving it to chance that a weak schedule will cost us another bid to the NCAA tournament again next year because we laid an egg in the Southland Conference tournament.  SFA wants some respect. No we are not a top twenty five team.. but we deserve a shot to play the best teams in the country.. win loose or draw.
14. Not relevant to this topic put two spring cup's ago I did a study on cards given and title's won for a particular season. Lonestar the club out of Austin is known for their physical and often considered dirty play. I went to the website that showed the National Cup titles ( highest available in Spring Cup Play)  And the Lone Star Club had more cards than Albion, Challenge and Eclipse combined. These are brackets from U11 to U18  but a crazy coincidence they also had 70% or better of the state titles... I do not promote violence in soccer... that's Football... I like composure and tatical precision enhanced by elite atheleticism and speed. but their aggression seemed to be rewarded with titles.. I actually watched them try to beat a team  into submission but it actually worked against them... like a boxer they punched themselves out. And the opponent which I was rooting for took charge of the second half and won the game 1- nil!!
15. And again to the top of the charts... I know that there are a lot of high school games going on with more important immediate impact .... but I want to keep this topic in front of you for at least another evening.. because just like God.... it is something I truly believe in. Rip Out!
16. Come out it will benefit you as a player or parent of a future collegiate hopeful.. ps I can tell you as parent of a college soccer player and also as a parent/guardian of a non-athelete college student. The structure that the team setting and high academic expectations set by the coach of the team... is exactly what a college freshman needs.. One kid 4.0 and the other academic probation.
17. Based on the turn-outs at the Quinn Indoor on Youth Open Play Friday and Saturdays (7-11pm).. 100 total players (5 pee wee teams 8-12yrs old and (4) high school age teams 13 and up)  Friday night alone.. then another 75 players on Saturday. There is going to be some phenomenal soccer talent coming out of this area far beyond our most recent stars. Plain and simple they are playing a ton of soccer and having a blast doing it. Some of these kids play on outdoor teams, then the indoor league and then come for fun two nights a week. Sure there may be a few who grow sick of the sport and quit but for the ones that stick with it to the end there are soccer scholarships in their future and potentially more. As some of you know my daughter has turned out to be a pretty good soccer player ( two first team all state selections, two district female player of the year awards and playing over 700 minutes as a freshman for the conference regular season undefeated champs SFA.. but even she will pale in comparison to these up coming stars just from sheer time on the ball...and to be quite honest that is what makes the Brazilians, Italians, Germans, British and Spanish so superior to us in the International world of futbol. The Quinn Indoor will be one of the finest investments into youth soccer this area has ever made with the exception of the fields that Cris personally invested in for BYSC. Not to mention if you believe you've got skilz Wednesday Adult open play from 8-10pm is where the heavy hitters come out. I guarantee the level of soccer is some of the highest that anyone could expect to participate in bar none. If any of you know Tom Shenton.. he is one of the best soccer players that I have seen since the Jorge Cruz. And Tom is a regular in the Open Play and says he loves what the level of competition has evolved into. Not for the weak! That's not Tom's quote It's mine! Come out.. get your kids off the video games or out of the streets and get some exercise and hone your soccer skills. Friday and Saturday nights are for all skill levels... Wednesday OPEN play has evolved to advanced level only. IMO personally I cannot wait to see what some of these current 10 and 12 year olds accomplish in the next four to five years.. Keep your eyes and ears open for names like Madison, Sophie, CJ, Garrett, Cole and many more......these are the regulars and current stars of the the Indoor. God Bless Cris Quinn, his foundation and family.
18. Worth the time and effort to attend. If you are thinking about playing soccer after highschool .. do not wait.
19.
Kelly wins 2-1. 2 late goals scored deep into 2nd half to overcome a goal scored early in 2nd half by pius. MC Austin and Jillian Ryall with the goals. Pius played very committed game while Kelly missed many chances to put the game early but finishing was a little off tonight. will play Pius again thursday in houston
Very competitive and entertaining game to watch
20.
Lady Dawgs win 2 - 0 at Houston Christian. Tara Austin scored both goals. Way to go Lady Dawgs!!!!!
That's TERROR Austin!
