1.
It works, period. It is not perfect and a good management plan would be better but most of these leases could have gotten a management plan years ago but would rather go by the east Texas, if it's brown, it's down rule. Soon people in east Texas will start taking some nice (not necessarily trophy) deer with some trophies scattered in with them. It beats taking spikes and basket 4 or 6 pointers.
Right On TVC!  The problem with our lease is we had guys who would follow the management philosophy and another half that would follow the brown it's down.. it needed to be mandated for our group.. some of the the brown it's down guys have been on the lease 25 plus years and it might have taken 10 or 15 more for them to die off not going to get voted off.  I was one of those shoot on sight guys not to long ago myself... I am also one that ask questions..like... Why can we not shoot better deer more often?
2. What a game... go to SFA soccer for an accurate play by play account. What I remember is we were up 2-0 after twenty plus minutes.. With both goals coming around the 22nd or 23rd minute not sixty seconds apart. We were dominating possession and shots.. TCU did not appear to have the speed required to get behind our defense. That's when a parent said.. those dreadful words... " I do not know why, but I heard 2-0 is the most dangerous score in soccer".. Well I had heard that too and I tried to give my best explanation why.. short answer.....complacency!  We have got this over confidence!  And sure enough in the second half we appeared to lose that dominating form that had gotten us to that point.. then they struck and got their first goal on a set play.. Momentum beginning to swing and they appear to begin penetrating our defense at a level that is making me very uncomfortable. Then came the call.. a handball in our box that set them up for a tying penalty kick. DENIED!!!!!!!  The crowd goes wild.... We get our 3rd goal and they get their second with 9 minutes left.. Time expires and SFA 3  TCU 2 This was a first in school history on seven tries that SFA has beaten TCU.. although it did not feel this way after the first half.. SFA put on a dominating performance.. Team Captain Kylie Louw is a BEAST... she can go to goal at will and then turn on a dime and defend all the way back to our goal.. Best player my daughter has ever played with (member of the South African National Team) The future looks bright for the Lady Jacks! Zuri started both halves and played very well.. DoctorDave called and said he watched her live on the computer and said she looked like she was playing well. Next game is at home Friday Sept 23rd against Jackson State.
3. I have to say I am very supportive of the 13 inch Rule in East Texas.. I have already begun to see the results and look forward to what the future holds for our lease.  Last year we had a beautiful tall 8pt (Shooter) by anyone's standards only allowed to walk because he was under 13 and possible under 12.. Now this would have been the perfect argument for why the 13 inch platform stinks.. and last year I would have agreed whole heartedly because this guy was a trophy deer for eastex.. Well guess what guys.. this year he improved his width and is a true monster by eastex standards.. would not have happened without the rule..  I like it! And he is on my early season bow hit list. Have a nice 11pt that he too would be a nice Eastex trophy this year.. but if allowed to season one or even two more years he could really be something special.. sure he could get ran over.. but neither of these deer got to their currrent status by being stupid. These are two honor students!
4.
"Dave how was the video from home?" We lost on the video, too/  ;) It was a very good way to watch without having to travel.
That's good to hear.. someone I spoke to said they were trying to watch a game online and it was not very good.. it may have had something to do with the speed of their computer. We have a game in San Antonio on a Friday then in San Marcos on that Sunday.. I think I will try watching the UTSA game from home to save the mileage and catch the San Marcos game in person.
5. Hard fought defensive battle.. this game for the first half was a chess match. Looked like a well played game if you like possession patient soccer. ( my favorite Barcelona Style) Move the ball close to the net then strike.. both teams were doing a very nice job. Half ended at 0-0 with Shots on goal favoring SFA 4-3. Second half I think SFA depth made the difference it was a hot day and both teams began to tire. SFA scored early making it 1-0. Then piled on two goals late making it look lopsided at 3-0... but it really never was... Natalie Hagar had me nervous until the whistle blew because you knew she could strike at any time and swing the momentum. She narrowly missed a shot in the first half that would have gave HBU a 1-0 lead. Well played game by both teams. Zuri started for the first time and played the entire first half.. she confessed later that she was looking toward the sideline for a sub... she said she was spent. Box score said she played a career high 90 minutes.. but I know that was not accurate because she was getting treatment on her foot (Blisters) for at least 20 plus minutes of the second half. I would give her 70 minutes generously. She is getting better each week and playing more and that is a good thing for POPS! HBU has a good team and could easily make a good showing in the SLC. Good luck on the rest of the season Natalie and DoctorDave. Dave how was the video from home?
6. What a Ride.. Literally.. I was just telling this story when I hit a key on the keyboard and lost all the information I had just spent 15 minutes writing.. the saga continues. I will give the short version because I am too pissed to tell it all again. I set a departure time of 1pm for a 4pm game. I mapquest Runston LA and it says 2hrs44mins. at 12:15pm my wife calls and says the trip will take 4hrs and45mins and had we left 15 minutes ago we would have made the kickoff. Well I do not believe her and enter the Runston in mapquest and it confirms my earlier belief of just under 3hrs.. well this time I put in the field address and Holy Crap my wife is right.. I put in Runston and goofy Mapquest gave me FUNSTON .. are you kidding me! Well then we get to Center and the GARMIN that my wife has been telling me to trust for the last 2hrs are so .. says turn on TX7.. We had been arguing because I had a hard copy of the Mapquest to Ruston LA and there was no mention of TX7.. but I chose to listen to the GARMIN this time.. and presto I end up on a 2.25 hour tour of the back woods of LA behind every slow poke in the continental US.. single lanes and hills to boot. Well we get to the game at the start of the 2nd half and Zuri is going on the field so I am some what relieved. It took just at 4hrs to get there. She plays great at her new found defensive mid position.. winning the majority of our goal kicks and theirs as well.. Nice Job ZEE!  I found out today she played a record 64 minutes while I was traveling the scenic route of TX7... LA171...LA49 and finally I20.. hard fought game.. the box score tells me .. they LA tech dominated from a shots taken perspective.. but the final was a 1-1 draw.. a good result for what I saw. Now the rest of the story.. I am still mad at the GARMIN for taking me down TX7.. so I am out to prove that I20 to 79 to 59 to 69 the reverse order would have been a faster choice and I might have caught a few more minutes of the first half if I had not listen to the stupid GARMIN.. Not! got home in the same time it took to get there just around 4hrs.. a good time for 277 miles. Did I tell yall about the game or am I still ranting about me blowing the mapquest planning by 2hours!!! :o Tomorrow we face Natalie Hagar and HBU at home at 1pm.. I think I have this mapquest covered. Dr Dave if you need a copy let me know.. and congrats on Natalie being honored offensive player of the week.  Good Stuff Nat!
7. [Hidden Content] B Garza doing it Big Also.... SSSC represent!
8.
[Hidden Content]; :)
Good stuff Dave.. I look forward to our game on the 11th of this month.  See ya there.
9. Hard fought game.  Only goal came from freshman phenom. Chelsea Raymond in the 5th minute.. scouting report for future opponents.. The girl has wheels. As that Mathews Bow commercial says.. catch us if you can! And an accurate shot to boot. As for Zuri she played 24 minutes in the second half after two key injuries weakened  what has become a stingy defense. To say I was nervous would be an understatement since they played her in a very unfamiliar defensive mid position. however her height and hops is just what the doctor ordered and she did very well up until the well deserved yellow card in the 70th minute.. cutting her defensive stint short.. her coach told her he did not want to risk her getting another card leaving the team a man down.. in a game everyone wanted to win badly.. SFA had not beaten UTEP since 03. For those of you that know Neresa Taylor (UTEP alumni) she was sick.
10.
Sweet!  Great Job Nat!  Maybe just Maybe...Lamar might look closer at the local talent rather than go to California to find soccer players.....
No Cardinal bashing here Tooth.... we will let the results speak for themselves Oct 16th. I feel a decisive victory coming. but yes he missed 8 potential players in this freshman class.
11. Shark loves Futbol... he is a good man with good intentions. If your kid wants to learn the game he will teach them on or off the Kelly roster. As for Kelly.. it is a tough school.  My child did not particularly like going there.. but it was what she needed... If there is a will there is a way ! Not every child that attends there comes from strong financial means.. we certainly did not. But I learned from my parents... you should make sacrifices for your children.  Conversely my eldest daughter graduated from West Brook.. she did not need the tight discipline. Kelly's soccer program is strong due to the work Shark puts into it.
12.
I find it disappointing that local private schools are actively recruiting talented players from the smaller public schools.  Will only serve to push smaller schools to eventually drop soccer when the talented players being developed leave the program early due to the promises from the private schools and the school can't sustain the program.  Sometimes I think the players that leave are a little misguided as their real "exposure" comes from playing on D-1 or Super 2 select clubs and not the high school team.
Agreed... as to the point of where you gain exposure. National Cup Spring Games or  High rated tournament Showcases.. like Challenge Texas shootout, Disney, Final Four Showcase. Have not seen many college scouts at High School Games.. none at the Kelly games for the four years I watched a very good team. Now I would think they would come if invited and you are already a prospect.
13. Well to say I am bias to wins is an understatement.. I did not post the first game against Tulsa til now due to the fact I had to get over the loss as well as Zuri playing a career low 21 minutes in that game.. Hard to stay motivated when your child is upset.. I will confess my sins and pray for forgiveness. Friday night the Lady Jacks lost to Tulsa 1-0. Sunday the Lady Jacks took out their frustation on Oral Roberts and took 21 shots in the first half and converted 4 of those into goals. second half they took 9 more shots but 0 goals Zuri finished the game with taking 2 of the 30 shots and logged  32 minutes and much happier with the win. there I did it.. I feel better now. Next game is Friday at Home against UTEP Sam Houston State and Caitlyn Stowe were also in Oklahoma for the weekend.. They dropped both of there games 2-3 to Oral Roberts and 0-6 to Tulsa. PS I discovered something recently that I would like to share.. It is called Gametracker... and for all you real soccer nuts or just nosy people you can follow many games simultaneously while watching the play by play of the game you are interested in... It's a great way to follow players and friends from the local area. The ticker tape appears to have a Div 1 bias but if your school is on the program like SFA I am sure you can follow your games. I saw games from HBU, Sam Houston as well as U of H, UT and A&M to name a few. The other day I saw where one of Zuri's old teammates from Houston was yellow carded in a game Kansas vs USC.  Kansas was winning so I do not know what got into Caroline(22).
14. Looks like the Women are running this 5 D1 1 D2 2 D3 1 NAIA All from one team ;D
15. SFA  0  1.....  1 SMU  1 1.....  2 Heart breaking loss....... SFA battled back in the second half to draw to level.. then with two minutes left a SMU forward bullied her way through a 50/50 ( one of those balls that look like that shoulder to shoulder drill where you try to use as much leverage to control the opposing player) and finished with a diagonal missile.. I was hoping to walk away with a draw.. SMU had recently drew with OSU a top program in the nation. Prince played 35 minutes in the 2nd half. She looked good, but needs some luck to get on the board with her first goal. Coming soon!
16.
[Hidden Content]
Great Job NAT!!!!!
17. The inside scoop is Prince will not start against SMU tonight.. she was told however she will be their first substitution.. Anyone want to drive me back from Dallas tonight? Might be going solo.. wife says she has end of the month business obligations  ;D
18.
This is great to see so many players from this area entering and playing at the college level! College soccer is hard work no matter what level one plays. Off season training (the spring) is even more gruelling. And yes, the speed of the game is tremendously faster than the local high school or division 3 or super 2 game. Let me encourage players and parents alike to get the schedules of some of the schools listed above and go see one or two games. I think you will be surprised at what it takes to play in college. Congratulations and best of luck to all those playing at the college level! Hang in there. Your time will come.     I must say, I always wondered why Mike's team didn't play at a higher level. Did they ever attempt to qualify? They truly had the talent to play there (high division 1) and be successful. Still, congrats on the great runs from the club team.
Mike's team qualified for Div 1 at U11 and played at that level throughout.. Once attaining premier league status, when premier took 4 teams from EDDOA instead of it's current two. Mike and the girls played at their highest capability.. it all came down to depth... The best Houston teams just had more competitive geared girls to choose from. It was a great run.  (3 Pres Cup State Championships, 2 Region 3 Pres Cup appearances finalist and semi finalist) Played in the National Cup bracket for 2 or 3 seasons.  A goal for any team in the triangle.
19. What a difference one golden triangle player makes and one from South Africa (captain of her National Team) and one from Australia and one from Canada and a few from Austin and Dallas and few other places you probably never heard of. The kid from Beaumont.. better get to work!  ;D [Hidden Content]
20. Congrats to Stacy.. The closest I know of was Mike Hughes team (SSSC 93 G) that went to the Pres Cup Region 3 event two years in a row. Lost to North Carolina (1-0) in the finals.. had beaten them earlier in the competition .. a win would have advanced them to the National tournament. and the year after they played the eventual National Champs to a draw.. and about an hour or two after that game I was approached by the Champs parents and asked about our team.. they said we were too good to be in the Pres Cup competition and was wondering how we got there. (SAND BAGGING) That year we had a rash of bad luck.. losing our leading scorer ( Natalie Hagar) to an ACL injury, Our top defender( Madeline Horning) in the game against the champs to a ankle sprain and another player broke her wrist in our second game... It was not our year.. but we had two legitimate chances to advance and failed to capitalize 9 players off that team (SSSC 93) are playing in college this year.
21.
Travis started getting burnt out with soccer, and decided to return home to attend Lamar.
My daughter has only been in it 3 weeks... it's alot of work and total commitment of time, mind, body and spirit.. as competitive as I am.. I can see how someone could tire of the grind.
22. Well Baylor won 2-0. First Half was a good one.. 0-0 at the break.. SFA dominated possession for the first 15 minutes or so then Baylor took control. Zuri played the last 22 minutes or so of the first half.. much to her dismay she did not start.  Hey they have a gooood team. Second half SFA missed the go ahead penalty kick that would have giving them a 1-0 lead. then they surrendered a goal by an on goal deflection mishap. They gave up a 2nd goal sometime after. With 15 minutes left in the 2nd half Zuri re-entered the game. She was nearly a hero on two occassions with only five minutes left in the game. The first was when she recieved a break away pass near the opponents 18yd line and sailed the one touch effort over the cross bar. And then with only a few minutes left SFA mustered a corner kick that pin balled around inside the box when suddenly Zuri found the ball at her feet 6yds away and with her back to the goal she tried to back heel it ala Chrisitian Rinaldo into the back of the net. Unfortunately it did not have enough mustard on it and it was an easy save for the goal keeper.. had it gone it would have been brilliant.. since it did not it look like an ill advised strike. LOL.. well with the hustle of the  Baylor defenders I am sure she would have been shut down had she tried to take a full wind up a follow through with so many folks in the box... Next game will be in Dallas against SMU on Monday the 22nd.. full recap will follow. Oh yeah Zuri's coaches assestment is that she plays too slow for the college game.. Pick up the SPEED kid! :D
