1. I will be there tonight and am always optimistic that we will compete every week. I am happy that the undersquads are having good seasons and I hope they can help next year at the varsity level. We shall see! I am unsure if Guillory will play tonight. I hope so. I think Wimberly has done a good job since being in that spot and is a good change of pace if they both are able to go. If the teams we played were also ball control offenses I could see running from the "I" formation with this team but we cannot get into a scoring battle and keep up. Go Pats! this would be a huge lift if we could surprise the cougs.
 2.
Hey Cbear, Again im a newbie on this, but i think it is starting to change at the lower levels.  From what i have seen the JV and Freshmen teams lay it on the line and it actually matters to them to lose.  They have finally taken a stance that losing is not acceptable to them.  My sons freshmen team vs Dayton had their best kid in ISS and then had the next best two hurt on the 2nd and 3rd plays of the offensive series.  Most would have quit then but fought back and actually had a chance to win at the end.  They tied which is the closest someone has come to a Dayton team.  The JV and Freshmen B were close as well.  This week, the team lost the two injured kids and two more starters for discipline reasons.  i think they had about 15 guys to Crosbys 30.  We were up 18-16 just could keep up with the shoot out.  But they played till the end.  The JV won like 41-6.  I think the new mentality is there.  My son said those Freshmen coaches talk to them everyday about what it will take to make the change to a program that will be successful, that they cant be happy just suiting out.  From other parents i have talked to, this senior class is the last group that got to opt out of sterling and come here because they werent good enough to play at sterling.  I think it is a mindset that has to be fixed and i wont be over night, but i do see sparkles here and there.  Agree with you on most of your points and i do believe that if we get behind our boys it will start to show.
I hope to se this attitude carry over the next few years but I am telling you that if you wanted to speak with this coach, good luck. He would never be in the community promoting anything from what I see. He is not respected by his players like some of the coaches you are speaking about. I know exactly what you mean about the coaches talking to the players and changing the program. This is not coming from the HC. It should be and he should be leading in this effort. There is not many coaches that will want to coach for him that want to make a difference because of his attitude. I am not saying he is a terrible guy but just not a motivator. We had a weak JV last year because so many Sophs were on varsity and I think the Freshman team the year before was competititive. If they would have had the staff you have down there now, they would have won imo.
 3.
Here is an example of the respect the coaches should have from the kids not just at the HS level but from grade school up. Coach Stewart from Dayton lives next to one of the elementry schools. As the buses drive by his house taking kids to school and the parents drop their kids off, look and you will see all the kids look and salute as they pass. You see Stewart at the 4th / 5th /6th grade level talking and interacting with the kids. Even been seen at many of the juinor high games. Kids love to sport their "Future Bronco" shirts and are looking forward to play for "The Legend" as he is known. You talk about the coaches in this thread but to me that is not the problem. The community has to show up for the kids win or lose every game. In the BTN LEE the Dayton fans easly double theirs on an away game. GCM game was homecoming for us but the visitor side looked pretty skinny. If you ask me there are three building blocks that you must start with "pride dedication and loyalty" and this starts well before the coaches in JH or highschool get them.................................................... This better not get me any good karma im trying to keep pace with Tyrone and Crosby still sucks ;)
I agree with much of what you say here but I know that Dayton was not football crazy before Stewart arrived and I know they had no big following. It has to start with earning respect and you will rarely see this coach talk with his own players, much less the kids in the community. You win, the fans come. they will respect a "good" guy but winning brings in the fans. When Stewart leaves, the new coach better have results or he will lose the fans and respect. It is human nature. I remember when Lee and Sterling just about filled that stadium. I have seen that plalce (Stallworth Stadium) with standing room only. An average team brought out more fans than you guys have on friday night. Stewart was there as well. You guys are lucky to have landed a guy who can build a program and reach the kids. Do not go blasting and fans any other programs for not having this. I wish we had someone like that as well but we have a district, it seems, who does not place this as a high priority.
 4. Just sitting around thinking and looking back on our season and I like the fact that we seem to block better at times but I just wonder why we started to shuttle RB's and QB's after two games this year. A RB can never get in a rythym or groove playing one series at a time. Same for a QB. their was absolutley no blocking in the LCM, Nederland and Manvel games. We had virtually no chance. Our best RB has been injured often but even when healthy has been playing every other or every third series. He is the only gamebreaker we have. Our season opening QB had two games, was injured and was then shuttling with another before losing his job. Makes no sense when looking back, he was probably the best leader on the team. New QB throws a good spirial but no accuracy. Our big RB runs well but never a big play. I would like to see the opening day RBs, WR and QB play now with an improved OL. We seem worse to me because we cannot make up our minds and absolutley do not make adjustments as the game progresses. I want another coach to get on here and argue or debate this. I may not be the one coaching but it is what it is. No tackling, no discipline or staying at home on defense, I am guessing 6-9 ints (2 pick 6) the last 3 games along with a few fumbles and block kicks for scores. I can go on and on. Our coach plays ball control when down 14 to 20 points. Trying not to get embarrassed. Let them play and let go of your ego. The newspaper articles seem to indicate he has no confidence in his team and uses their youth as an excuse.  Our guys seem to be lost much of the time. Teach these kids the game or GCCISD should find a staff that will. I could care less if it pisses off coaches here. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT AND CHANGE MY MIND AND EVERYONE THAT WATCHES. I see some fire in some of these freshman coaches and some knowledge. Use them! Our kids are getting embarrassed and they have some talent.
 5. Will pray for both as well as their families.
 6. I have no idea, my son called me amd told me about 30 minutes ago.
 7. I just got a call and do not want to name any names on here until confirmed.
 8. Has anyone heard of two Dayton players being lifeflighted this evening? I pray that they are ok if this true.
 9.
QB01 I coach the running backs at GCM. I talk to them after every series. I just dont do it sitting on the bench. I encourage our players constantly. Its always easier to coach from the bleachers when you don't know what's going on.
Then you more than anyone know what I am talking about. You can assume who is being referred to here and it is not you. There are some football coaches calling the shots on this staff that are not approachable if a player wanted to speak about anything. If you do not agree with me, your head is in the sand. Players should feel comfortable enough to do this and for the most part, like their coach. This is absolutely not coaching from the stands. It is a fact. Do not wear your feelings on your shoulders and make a point to change the atmosphere. Be the coach to make a difference. I would be willing to bet you are not real comfortable discussing this with this head coach.
 10. As much as I want to criticize our lack of offensive production, I will try and contain myself. What is up with being so conservative. Going with a Soph at QB, go ahead but let him get in the pistol and see the field. He seemed to toughen up a bit last night and he needs to shake off any mistakes made. Get bettter each week and lets see what happens. We had some good runs but what if we ran both fron the pistol and the eye. Shake things up and do not look so predictable. Work on special teams this week, it killed us as well. Not all that hard to block on a punt.
 11. I actually like the intensity last night in the first half and I did not see anyone quit in this game. We have to make adjustments and realize what the other team is doing. Absolutely no outside containment in 2nd half. Our guys do not know how to take on a block and still contain outside. Quit running upfield for gods sake.
 12.

Maybe the larger issue is that Baytown doesnt have any true feeder schools at the junior high level where the kids can connect and dream about playing for their high school coach.
I totally agree with this statement.  We have a huge problem with this.  I know we have a 3 high school district but the district needs to set something up where the Jr High coaches have to be under the High School coach they are feeding to.  Right now im pretty sure they can do whatever they want.  So school like Dayton and Crosby and Barbers Hill already have a 2 year if not more head start because our kids dont learn a system or a coach till their freshmen year.
I hear the coaches at GCM are getting more involved down at the JR High level. I hope this continues and I hope that at the very least there is one coach down there that can teach the kids some fundamental before reaching the high school.
 13. QB01, I would understand why you would see things differently because your son is on the Freshman team. I know some of them better than others but there are three Freshman coaches with fire in their bellies and are seem to know how tonot only teach, but motivate the kids to perform at a high level. You honestly tellme you see the same out of the coaches on Friday night. It starts with the coaches and how to see how much you can get out of each kid. You say it would be different if they were winning and where was this last year. I had the same opinion along with many others last year. Did you see all the games last season. We are in a weak district for the most part and are "lost" when we play good football teams. Sounds negative so prove me wrong. You come back next year and year after and let me know how you feel. I will never call anyone out by name hear, but I will take 22 Freshman with Fire in their bellies over 22 upperclassmen who just do not get it. I wish your son well and hope he loves the game as much as I do. As far as having young guys and they are not aware of the "Friday night stage" give me a break, it doesn't take much to look like you give a crap about what is going on. Play as a team, not individuals and stay disciplined for 4 quarters. I am one of the most optimistic people in the world, but unless the staff changes some attitudes or even personalities, things will stay the same. They may be young but there isplenty of talent hear for a postseason run this year and for years to come.
I can tell you that there are a few players on this ream that eat, sleep and breath football and would like nothing other than to lead this team. You have several individuals who just seem to care about their own individual performances and this is it. I have several examples from players fumbling and being ignored when coming to the sideline, to interceptions being thrown and the same result on the sideline. The defense can give up big play after big play with the same mistake being made over and over. Where does it end. A mistake needs to be corrected and the player encouraged the next time he goes out there. I see heads down and there a a few other players that are encouraging to each other. Way too much young talent on this team to have this sort of attitude. If my most explosive player fumbles or has a tendancy to fumble but can take it to the house on any given play, why not show some support. He is the one who is most likely going to make the big play. Instead, he plays about a third of the game. Football is about discipline and teaching discipline at each position. Everyone has their job to do first on every play, help out second. If a player continues to do what he wants every play, he should be benched. Not many Seniors to lead here and no, not one is leading by example. The coach should care just as much as the kids do and work to make them better. I know for a fact that there have been times in practice where a struggling player or players have made a few mistakes and the team is asked to give them a "sarcastic" hand when they do something right. This is leadership by the coaches. This is encouragement. I have been cursed and embarrassed by coaches but they never had the team get involved. I am all for finding a way to get the most out of someone and if getting in their face does, I support this. Believe me, I am not soft and never have been so it is uncalled for if I disagree. When I was playing, my relationship with my coaches are one reason I loved the game so much. They taught us everything and we would cut up with them when the time was right. If a coach made fun of you or something you did it was because he gave a crap. I never took it as an insult. These guys seem lost and do not know how to build players. You can lose and learn something from it, not happening here.
IMO leadership starts with the coaches. If they seem to not care if mistakes are made then why should the players. I know every single coach from Dayton, will get up in the players face if mistakes are made. And IMO the players respect that. I also know that when a player makes a good call on the field makes a good play, the Dayton coaches are right there to give them a at-a-boy. Its all about discipline and consistency. I have seen Stewart send in a player, the player makes a mistake and Stewart pulls him out and sends someone else in. No ifs ands or buts about it. That IMO just makes the player want to do better, to get more playing time. I mean really Coach Stewart must be doing something right, just look at his record here at Dayton. Did I say this is all JMO? ;)
I agree with everything here. I wish other coaches could see that this breeds and is contagious to a team.

 16.

The Barber's Hill Coaches were upset... Rightfully so, when your team gets beat before the game starts. Coach Stewart respected Coach Price. Coach Gage disrespected Dayton by making his "players" wear PURPLE when they messed up at school. What is that teaching your players and staff? That it sucks to wear purple? Coach Gage should take some pride and APOLOGIZE for everything. That would make him "more of a man". After all the things that happened, Coach Gage attempted to shake Coach Stewarts hand after the game... Coach Stewart declined! Which seems like unsportsmanship, but Coach Stewart shook hands with ALL the players. Nuff Said!
Neither got any brownie points after thier own individual performances as a head coach last week.  No love loss is a good thing for the rivalry that I hope continues.  With that said, lack of sportsmanship is not excusable and the schools should address the issue with both coaches.
It will only become a rivalry when BH wins a game against them. Dayton is everyones big game right now. I think shutting up before the big game will stop the embarrassing threads created here. This thing is hilarious all because of the smack talking before the game.
 17. I agree a conversation with the school board might at least bring it to their attention but I a unsure if I would want to bring on some sort of firestorm with this. I do not have a personal ax to grind as our HC is not necessarily a bad guy, him and his staff just cannot seem to get on their level or want to for that matter. All kids are different and should all be held to the same standards but sometimes dealing with them individually can go a long in gaining respect.
 18. With Dick Olin gone, Stewart has no reason to show mercy. Dayton by a bunch. I hope Lee plays well though as they need something positive to happen to help pick them up.
 19. Ok, I am all supportive on the way a coach runs his team, who he plays and so on, but it seems that this staff shows little or no emotion towards it's players. I played a lot of football and have seen plenty of coaches get in a guys grill, but it was usually to get the most out of them. It really seems that this staff has nothing to say to lift any player's spirits when mistakes are made. I mean nothing! I do see coaches yelling and screaming when they themselves seem lost. I do not care about what play is called or who is playing where, that is another story but can we have one coach on this staff be supportive and say anything positive to any of them. There is a huge problem here and noone seems to be addressing this. When coaches seem embarassed, they blame it on the kids and have excuses on why they are not successful. Players should want to win one for their coach but I will say there are not many players on this team that even like their coach, let alone win a game for him. I will even go as far to say that some of coaches cannot stand one another. I have had many a private conversation about this but i will see what responses are given. Like I said, he can play and whomever and call whatever plays he wants, but at the very least lead your team by showing you give a crap!
 20.
September 21, 2010 This is Andrew Lack's response in a letter to the editor at the PA News: [Hidden Content]
While WOS is faced with dealing with the loss of their QB, you guys are questioning a coaches decision and who will start for his team in the next game. The fact that the kid mentions that it was not fair to "use another kid at QB" shows his maturity level and why the coach, not the kid should make the decisions. He may be a great kid but forgets who is running the team. Respect the decision and move on. Life is not fair! All schools have similiar issues at some point and most people do not go to the papers when they disagree with a coaches decision. What's next, you do not like the play the coach called so you go to the coach or the media and let them know your opinion. Ridiculous! He is a player with whom the coach called in to discuss comments made so as to not divide the team, the coach reminded him who was in charge and he took it as direspecting his father. His father should tell him to let the coach make the decision. The kid should apologize and move on. If the coach hurt his feelings, he needs to get over it. It will be one of life's lessons learned. You guys may think it is none of anyone else's business, but you posted all this in a public forum and someone went to the papers. Your coach could lose a job over what a kids opinion and version of a story that may not be true. He was wrong!
 21. Gotta go with Crosby. Merka should have a chance to run in this one. I hope Lee has most of their injured players back now.
 22.
Here is my post from earlier(inadvertently deleted) Chaos in nederland... I have a lot to say about this but ill hold my tongue as much as possible without trying to attack players or coaches.. If neumann is hearing from his players that raines should be the starter, then he should bench forney.. He is only hurting the team otherwise.. I've watchwd forney on the sidelines while he was hurt and he stands there with a towel around his neck posing for the guy taking pictures..this is not an exaggeration and many people saw it.. (Edit: also nonstop texting on his cell phone)..A leader would be talking with his offense and helping raines.. Neumann needs to do what's right for the team. After all it is about the kids.. I'm very proud of the few who stood up and said this was wrong and especialy proud of lack.. This team will fold like a blanket if forney remains the starter.. The coaches need to do what's right here..
I hope you guys get this worked out before Friday. The coach is the only one to make the decisions on a team and the team needs to stand behind the decsion. Players play under any circumstances and have confidence that if the QB struggles, he will be pulled for the backup. He may be sending a statement that the 1st QB would not lose his job due to injury. Then make changes as needed. As a player I was taught to respect all coaches and as a father would never condone playeres telling a coach who should play. Take a back seat and stop making the situation worse. It is only my opinion but a wise recommendation.
 23.

Saw part of Barber's Hill versus Lumberton-you have to admire their toughness and heart.  But i don't think they will be able to run on dayton, and their passing attack isn't much of a threat.  I've got Dayton in what I see as a relatively low-scoring game
As long as the BH offense can hang onto the ball, I think Dayton is going to be in for a big surprise this Friday.  As for the passing game, BH has the best QB for the passing game, hopefully we get to see him a lot more than we did during the Nederland game. BH needs to do what Kubiak is doing with the Texans, put the ball in the hands of the "rookies" and make Dayton start changing their defense up, then change it up on em again!!  Dayton will be ready for the Duke's and McMillan's. .... Something tells me Coach Gage already has a FIX for the Broncos.  You cannot win Championships in Texas anymore with the running game, you've got to be able to pass the ball ..... I'm pulling for BH to beat Dayton by three and BH has the ability to pass and run the ball!! Go Eagles !!
Keep dreaming! You really think that there is anything BH can run that Dayton would not have an answer for defensively. May make you feel better to put out this statement but you have to be disciplined and play within yourselves to win games. You will not all of the sudden come out and throw for 400 yards and win. Sounds like you are one of posters who are building up a QB hoping the coach may get wind and take your advice. STOP coaching from the bleachers! Gage has one state title and he, his coaching staff and the team, not the parents or fans are the ones who can win another one. Just play, Typical BH fan! You guys can win by keeping their offense off of the field with a good running game and capitalize on their mistakes. Take a few shots deep and see what happens... Good luck!
