Finney and his entire staff are looking for jobs starting week after Thanksgiving. Enjoy the season guys. By the way... Moseley cant play, and the Yates kid is at Hardin Jefferson.
Why cant Mosley play?
Personal problems.  Maybe Liberty County courthouse can answer that better than me.
If the school district has a better chemistry lab than the one they have at home, should they be allowed to utilize that also?  What about districts which provide the students with a laptop?  Should home schoolers be allowed to pick up their laptop for use at home?  They pay taxes.  If you require athletes to be in an athletic period to participate, do you require the same for them?  Do you give them a grade?  This country is being run by a bunch of former pe kids!  God help us! 4.
My opinion on this topic is.... It all depends on where that player stands. I agree with the comment above saying that if he is top 10 he should be on varsity. But another factor you have to keep in mind is the kid. You don't want the kid to play varsity and sit the bench and get bored or unmotivated. Trust me... that happens a lot.. Certainly different things to consider but what needs to happen is the kid, parents, and coach need to sit down and talk about it!!
WRONG!! It is completely up to the coach to put the kids on the varsity team that will most help the varsity team win games.  It does not have anything to do with what the kid, parents, or anybody else thinks in the matter.
People do not pay school taxes for a uniform for their kids, they are paying school taxes for an education.  If you opt out of the education, you should also be opting out of what comes with the education.  EXTRAcurricular
 6.
Tim Tebow was home schooled. ;)
Tim Tebow was home schooled at first...  then he attended a high school so that he could play football.  But,  he did not attend a high school where he lived.  He and his mother "rented" an apartment in the district of Nease High School.  He chose that school because he heard that Nease High School's coach had a passing strategy which Tim was looking for.  Good example 'Big Girl'.  Perfect example of following UIL rules.  Hahaha
 7.
Exactly, a lot of wasted time in public schools.
That "wasted time" is part of it though.  Going from class to class....following rules and policies....being held accountable...  I don't know very many people that just get to "go home" or "go to the gym and work out" when there work is done.  In the real world most people work 40 hours a week or more...regardless if there is wasted time or not. By the way...  I have a friend who is a teacher.  She told me the time between classes was reduced to 4 minutes, and they have to teach from start of class to finish, and they are not allowed to check roll unless the kids are busy working on something.  And she said checking roll takes a matter of seconds because it's basically clicking on a computer who is there and isn't. You guys are just missing the point altogether.  Home school kids do not have same guidelines as public school kids.
 8. There are certainly exceptions to every rule.  I'm sure that the (homies) you speak are putting in more work than most public school kids.  And, those that you speak of will be more prepared for college than most public school kids because of what they are doing. You have to understand though...  there are (homies) on the other end of that spectrum as well. I personally know of home school kids that pretty much do the opposite.  Realize, most of the schools in southeast Texas are rural.  A lot of home school kids I know don't do much school work.  And maybe only a couple days a week so that they can actually work. (job) Either way.  You helped back up my argument with what you stated.  You know home school kids that finish their school work midday and then get to go work out for 4 hours of a school day.  How is that fair?  There is not a public school kids anywhere that gets that option.  Athletics class is 45 mins a day most of the time.  So public school have to wait until after 3:30 to get in an extra workout.
 9. There is nothing wrong with the idea of parents wanting to home school their kids.  They have that right.  In fact, we all know that public school programs have their fair share of problems.  This is not about that.  It's about accountability and fairness. This is about following the same rules and standards as every other public school kid that competes in anything UIL.  Rules set by a school district/school board, attendance, grades, behavior, tardiness, dress code, homework, testing, ATHLETICS CLASS, etc. etc. etc....  All of these issues for home school kids are monitored by a parent. It is impossible for anybody to say that home school kids and kids that attend a public school are on a level playing field when it comes to rules, standards, and accountability.  This whole idea is totally absurd.
 10. HF does not pay worth a crap.  Hard to keep good coaches if you can't compete with other schools concerning salary.
Mart beat them 49-21.  I'm sure the line was part of the reason...but a score like that I don't think the line was the "difference"

Coach Finney has rekindled the fire and tradition for sure. HD has one of the most storied programs in Texas football. We needed him to wake up the sleeping giant. HD Nation!
C'mon Cat55!  How many state championships has HD won in football that has help them write your "most storied programs" in Texas football? :o ::)
Well surely they've won more than Celina...or Groveton.  Maybe Southlake Carroll.. or Mart.  Surely.... I mean Burkeville has won 2 state championships.  Surely HD has won more than that.
 15.
Personally... if I were a coach I would not let any kid play any sport that did not go through the athletic period every day. When I was in high school we did a LOT of running and lifting weights during the period... which was a class during the school day.  If there would have been a kid on my team that didn't endure all of that....and just got to show up at 3:30 and start practice....I would have thrown a fit.  Plus, those kids don't have to worry about  behaving in class, turning work in, testing, being held accountable for school grades, etc.. I think the whole thing is unfair.  I hope that several coaches out there share my feeling on the topic.
16.
Good posts men. Coach Finney is not leaving HD any time soon. HD can and will continue to pay him his salary. I'm sure our opponents would love him to leave, wishful thinking. Coach Finney, Superintendent Mrs.Huckaby and Coach Huckaby are all very happy and having a blast. HD is gonna be loaded for years to come, lots of young talent coming up.
Haha...  I didn't say they couldn't pay his "current" salary.  I said they couldn't afford to keep him.  I'll remember you said he is not leaving any time soon.  Everything is for sale.  I have no idea what Coach Finney's plans are... I don't even know him.  But I know coaches.  I have to say that I'm a believer after last season.  They accomplished more than I would have ever thought or expected. I think someone with the success that he has could get any job he wanted, and coach at whatever school paid the most for his ability.  If HD has the season everyone is expecting....they better bring their check book.  I've been wrong before, but just wait and see. Good luck next year HD.

We will all let 55 have this time to shine...  but realize.  Almost every kid on that list (most of them transfers) will graduate after next year.  And...being how HD can't afford to keep Finney, he will probably leave too... along with his staff.  So... then what?  But... all that aside.  We will let HD enjoy this probable great season that's coming.
 19.

With four teams would the playoffs start a week early?
no, why would they start earlier?
More games to play?  The fourth place team in a four tem district will just cut into the basketball season another week....If you finish fourth you need to land the plane...  ;D
There are not really more games to play.  Instead of the 1st place team having a bye, they would just play a 4th seed.  Same amount of time
 20. Honestly I don't see what the big deal is.  Yes...it does water it down a little bit. And yes... there will be some teams in the playoffs that probably don't have any business being there.  But, since the number of 4th place teams winning the 1st round is so low...cant you just think of it as a warm-up game.  No different than taking a week off.  Might be actually better for a team to not get out of their normal (prepare to win a game) week of practice and a game.  Since the odds are so overwhelming for the 4th place team to lose, it will give a team a chance to play some of their back-ups (just in case they're need down the road).  In this case at least they'll have some "playoff experience".
 21.
I personally like having 4 teams from a district make the playoffs. I like that they get to experience the playoff environment and get to match up with a really good team from another district.  Seeing a smaller school barely get in the playoffs and then have the opportunity to upset a really good team in the first round is brings some extra excitement to that program. BUT, I don't think you should get in with a sub-.500 record.  IMO, if a district only had 3 teams with a winning record, then you should just give the #1 seed from the neighboring district a first round bye.  Just a thought.
Ok.  Let's say that you have a 5 team district, and the district champion wins every district game but lost every preseason game.  That would make you 4-6 and the district champion.  So that team doesn't deserve to get in because they are sub-500? It is possible for that to happen you know
 22. Yes.  But, how many teams enter the playoffs as a 3rd or 4th seed that would probably dominate other districts in the state.  There are also some 7-3 teams that didn't get in simply because of the district they play in.  Just depends on how you want to look at it. By having 3 or 4 teams get in you will have some that probably don't "deserve" to be there, but you also let in a few teams that are pretty good and happen to be in a really tough district.
 23.
Hardin has a long ways to go. Lots of young talent coming up, but those kids are 8 years old to 14 years old. By the time Hardin starts winning again, Fortune will be long gone. History proves itself over and over. There are several local guys that are worthy of the job, that will get Hardin going in the right direction again. With the talent coming up, WING T, or run based offenses will DESTROY the potential these kids have. Hardin won in 2000-2002 and 2007-2008 with the ability to AIR IT OUT. Bring back the spread, OOOOOPTY OOOOOP.
Hardin didn't air it out 00-02.  I bet they didn't throw 40 passes that entire 3 year stretch.  It was a combination of a decent group of athletes (including a couple of move-ins) and the fact that they went from 3A to 2A just at the right time.  Playing Barbers Hill, Huffman, and company is a lot different than playing Warren, Deweyville, and Anahuac.  Don't forget....Anahuac was a W 10 years ago. BTW...East Bernard won the 2A state championship this last year running the Slot T....a run based offense.

All the other H-D coaches are young and learning. Coach Hill was the defensive coordinator and was groomed well by Finney. I would love to see Coach Stan Hodges come back and run the defense. Great defensive mind. He is d-coordinator at Galveston.
Things aren't quite that simple anymore.  I have no idea what Coach Hill taught, but they have to find a coach that can teach the same field.  Unless other people are leaving and those classes can be used.
I could be wrong, but I think he taught some kind of upper level science.  If true, that there is a problem! haha
Upper level science....yikes.  I would've left too.
