  7. From Orangbloods.com Two WO-S players set to visit UT James Haynes of West Orange-Stark will be heading to Austin on Saturday for the Texas junior day, but he will not be alone on his trip. Also making the trip from Southeast Texas will be Trey Franks, who is generating quite a buzz of his own. Trey Franks will be at Texas' junior day on Saturday. Franks has plenty of help with the recruiting process with brothers Jacoby (Texas Tech) and Kerry (Texas A&M) going through the process and an older sister who attended Texas. He also has Haynes there to talk recruiting, as well as to push him when they go to camps and combines. "His freshman year he came over here and ever since we've been real good friends and staying tight ever since," said Franks. "We went to our first combine last year and he did really well and we've just been going to different combines to help each other out. "We always have these contests like when we go to these different camps. We always give each other advice about how we can make ourselves better for the camps and stuff." So far he holds an offer from Missouri and has been hearing from Alabama, Baylor, Texas, and Texas A&M. He attended a junior day at Texas A&M a few weeks back and the A&M has always been a school he's held in high regard. "I've been following A&M for awhile," said Franks. "My brother went to A&M when I was in the sixth grade and I've just been keeping up with them ever since." The Aggies, along with Missouri and Alabama, are currently at the top of his list; however, Texas is a program in which he has a lot of interest. "Texas, they're a great school," said Franks. "One of my brother's (Jacoby's) teammates (Earl Thomas) and a guy that graduated a year before that (Deon Beasley) are there. I like them a lot. They're a big school in the nation. Everybody knows about them. A lot of them go to the pros from there. That's what I like about that." Trey will also make the trip to Austin with his mom, and she has made it clear that more than anything there is one factor that takes precedent over all of the others. "My mom, she loves academics, and she wants me to go to a school with good academics," said Franks. "My mom she wants me to go to a good school and that's all she talks about." As a junior Franks was named first-team All-District 21-3A at receiver and defensive back and TSWA second-team 3A All-State
  8. Ever since he wowed everyone in attendance at a Texas Tech football camp last season with a 43-inch vertical jump, people knew there was something special about James Haynes. His performance at the camp was so spectacular, in fact, that it overshadowed a very dandy outing by his teammate, Trey Franks. Franks' older brother, Jacoby, plays for Texas Tech. Now, over half a year later, it's obvious that the spotlight is large enough for both West Orange-Stark standouts. "They're getting mail from all over the place, both of 'em are," said WOS assistant Toby Foreman. "Of course, James just got an offer from Florida and Trey just got his first one, from Missouri, but the mail and the interest are coming from all over." And to those close to the duo, like Foreman, it comes as no surprise. "Well, we always knew it would come, we just weren't exactly sure when it would all happen," said Foreman. "I mean, we all knew from the moment we started working with them that they were special, special talents, and now they've worked hard, improved, and they're starting to see that effort repaid." Indeed, Foreman told many observers, including several staff members from RedRaiderSports.com, at a camp two years ago that Haynes and Franks, then just sophomores-to-be, were going to be prospects to keep an eye on. Now, two years down the road, Franks and Haynes are seeing their stock heat up with each passing day. "Like I said, there's been a lot of attention their way," said the coach. "I know they're both going to Texas' Junior Day this weekend. Texas has been recruiting them both really hard- they are looking at Trey as a DB and they were thinking the same thing on James, but I just talked to Major Applewhite the other day and he mentioned they were thinking about slapping the athlete tag on him, because it's just so hard to project where he might fit at the next level." While both prospects have several schools they like individually, one of the only schools they are both interested in is the school where they burst onto the scene: Texas Tech. "They (Texas Tech) are a school that I know both guys really like a lot," said Foreman. "They won't be going to a Junior Day out there because of the travel thing, but they will be coming with me to their camp this summer, so they'll be down there. Really, the only time our kids can come to Tech's stuff is when I drive, just because of how long of a trip it is. But I expect both of them to come with me to their camp and I know both of them like what they're doing out there, that's for sure."
  9. Silsbee, Texas quarterback Jeremy Johnson (6-2, 173, 4.5) comes into the spring with five offers already on the table. Missouri, TCU, West Virginia, and Houston have all expressed an interest in him at quarterback with Baylor offering him as an athlete. UT Photo Texas will be one of the schools hosting Johnson on a visit in the coming weeks. He has his eye on quarterback but another position is not out of the question. "I really like running and being elusive on the field, so it really doesn't hurt me being able to show my talents by moving to another position," said Johnson. "If I move I don't mind but I do prefer quarterback." He has already been to Oklahoma and over the weekend he will set out for the first of three Junior Days remaining on his schedule. Stop one will be in Fort Worth and TCU (Feb. 21), then it's down to Austin for a look at Texas (Feb. 28), and then it's an out of state trip to view Michigan (March 14). "Texas, they're evaluating me to see if they want me for quarterback or receiver because they've already got a big five-star quarterback so they want me for like an athlete or something," said Johnson. "The other schools say they want me at quarterback. Both of them are saying I fit their offense." When it comes to favorites he does have a few schools at the top of his list. "As of right now UT, I wouldn't mind going there, but West Virginia and Oklahoma are my top two," said the Silsbee standout. However, the Horns are not far behind. "They're in the top three because they're a big school and they'll get you publicized a lot because they're already ranked high," he said. "They like me as an athlete so that would give me a chance to be publicized on TV." Johnson plans to attend an FBU camp, a Nike combine, and an Oklahoma camp this spring. As a junior he was named District 21-3A MVP and honorable mention 3A All-State.

  11. There is no question West Orange-Stark's James Haynes is an explosive athlete. He showed that explosiveness at camps last summer. He showed it throughout his junior season. Then he ran one of the fastest 40 times at the Army All-American combine. James Haynes has been busy attending junior days. At 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, the only question seems to be where will he line up on the college level, but that's a question college coaches are willing to ponder. He has played defensive back and receiver for West Orange-Stark and many programs are taking a wait and see stance when it comes to naming his position. "It's just mainly as an athlete, but I've talked to Vance Bedford from Florida not too long ago and he was talking about looking at me as a cornerback." Stanford and Texas Tech have already offered and his schedule has been full of Junior Days. "I've visited LSU and A&M so far and I'm planning on going to Texas' next one," said Haynes. While at Texas A&M and LSU, he was able to get a closer view of what both programs have to offer. "It wasn't too much more than I expected them to have," said Haynes. "A&M was nice, I got a whole bunch of one-on-one interaction with the coaches. And LSU, they've got some really nice facilities and everything and I got to talk to the nutritionist. I didn't really get to talk to the coaches too much. That was the only downside to LSU but I got to see the facilities and everything. I got a tour of the place." As for Texas, Haynes has been keeping in touch with coach Major Applewhite as the recruiting process moves forward. "It's just me keeping in contact and letting them know I'm still interested," he said. This weekend Haynes is headed to Houston for the Schuman Underclassman Combine at Westfield High School. Last spring he turned quite a few heads running a 4.51 40 and 10-8 broad jump at Schuman's Ultimate 100 combine in DeSoto, Texas.
  12. I feel like Toby deserves a chance as OC but I hope Dan does not try to make Toby/Goodwin co-offensive cord don't think that will work.
  13. FROM KOGT Randy Crouch will soon be introduced as the new Athletic Director / Head Football Coach at Little Cypress-Mauriceville. Crouch has been the offensive coordinator at WOS and was also once an assistant coach at LCM under David Williams back in the 90's.
  14. If Hooks decided to retire I would hate to see who this school board would try to hire to replace him. From the Orange Leader---- In a 4 to 3 vote WO-S School Board decides to hire Todd Moody as new football coach.
