  1. What are you talking about LILTEX, all I said is that without the pass interfrence call, which was a good call by the refs, WO-S holds a very good Dayton to 0 points.
  2. That is me over on 3a Downlow and what I wrote is fact. That was not the WOS JV. I don't know if someone just doesn't understand or they are trying to make an excuse for us giving up a TD to Dayton. Personally, I don't see the big deal. We gave up one TD on the first series then handled them pretty well after that. Dayton is a good team, one TD at the start is not something to be alarmed about. I agree with you Gas, and if not for the 4th and 17 pass interfence call the Mustangs hold a very good Dayton team to 0 points.
  3. LCM played Texas City to a scoreless scrimmage while the JV and Freshmen outscored TC according to first year LCM Coach Randy Crouch. "I was pleased with the effort for a first scrimmage," he said. "We were on the 6 yd line when the game ended. One concern I have following the game is that we have to do a better job making sure we have the right people in the right situations. And we'll get better at that." The Bears will host Silsbee in a scrimmage on Friday Still impressive.
  4. Talk about it in The Crimson Corner It had been rumored for a few days but on Wednesday afternoon a pair of teammates decided to continue their playing careers together for a few more years, and they chose to do so in Norman, Okla. Those teammates were Orange (Texas) West Orange-Stark stars [db]Trey Franks[/db] and defensive back [db]James Haynes[/db]. The two prospects are among the fastest in all of the Lone Star state and apparently Franks wanted his commitment to happen as quickly as one of his touchdowns on Friday night. "I had been thinking about us going to Oklahoma together since when they offered me," Franks said. "James had his offer pretty early on but as soon as they offered me I kind of liked the idea of us playing together up there." Franks, who is the third of his group of brothers to play college football in the Big 12 south, says that familial ties to the state were a big part of his reasoning for liking Oklahoma. Interestingly enough those ties run through Stillwater and in particularly Oklahoma State's football program. "Actually my grandfather played at Oklahoma State and he now lives in Tulsa, I've also got an aunt that lives in Oklahoma City," he said. "So it will be real good to have some family close to me when I'm up there." The receiver who took home the Texas 3A state 100-meter championship with a blistering 10.36-second time has the time of game-changing ability that perhaps Oklahoma has lacked at receiver and in the return game the past few years. It's a reality that [db]Jay Norvell[/db] was aware of when Franks gave him the call to let him know of his decision. "He was really excited, he was talking about the ways they can use me and put my speed to use for them," he said. So what was it about Wednesday July 22, that caused the two teammates to think it was time to finally bring recruiting to an end? "I've actually wanted to do it for about three weeks now but James wanted to get everything lined out before he committed, so I waited until today," the three-star receiver Franks explained. Though Franks' excitement about his decision is obvious he took a moment to clairfy his thoughts about schools continuing to recruit him. "Oh yeah, I'm done, I'm glad to have this behind me," he said. "I can just focus on my senior year and I know that I've got a teammate coming with me."
  5. WO-S 89 Any news on Franks maybe at the QB position? Yes Franks will see time at QB-------I'm just hoping when he does they will let him pass instead of running all the time.
  6. I agree. I don't think it was thought of any other way. I am just curious how Thompson was "misquoted". Thompson was saying to only place he will play on defense is at defensive backfield no other position on defense.
  7. WO-S football coach Dan Hooks has coached 10 players who played NCAA Division I football, three of whom played in the National Football League, he said. None, Hooks said, received as much interest from colleges as Haynes. WO-S has had more than 10 players play D1.

  9. From ORANGEBLOODS.COM What a weekend for members of the West Orange-Stark track and football teams. On Friday and Saturday, the Mustangs captured the Class 3A team track state championship, thanks in part to an individual title in the 100M by Trey Franks as well as a first-place finish in the 4X100 by a team that featured Franks and James Haynes (along with Josh Gloston and Phillip Jones). James Haynes was one of four WO-S teammates that camped at Texas. On Sunday, Franks and Haynes (along with 2011 prospect Mark Roberts and 2012 prospect Justin Thomas) all made their way to the Texas football practice fields, where the foursome participated in the Longhorns' first mini-camp. Franks and Haynes both worked at defensive back during the event, and Franks came away feeling like he performed well, despite battling fatigue. "It went really well. Coming from track meet yesterday, I was really tired. But I just got there and tried to perform," said Franks, who won the 100M title with a blistering 10.36. "I think I did okay. I think I ran a good 40 time. I had tired legs but for the most part I think I did really well." The 6-foot, 181-pound Haynes also showcased his talents. "I think I did pretty well. I feel like I had a fast 40 but we didn't get the times," said Haynes. "I felt like I performed pretty well on defensive side of the ball." While the camp visit was an obvious hot topic among Longhorn fans, the memories from the state championship will stay with the Mustang student athletes for a lifetime. "It's crazy. To win a state champ, that's all you wish for. Your whole career, want to win a state champ, so to have one feels really good," said Haynes. Though there was no talk of scholarship offers, both players were told by the Texas coaches to stay focused and to stay in touch as they work through the recruiting process. With track season now in the rear-view mirror, the entire West Orange-Stark team will turn its focus towards working towards what should be a very successful 2009 football season. "We are excited we could win a state championship in track but we all want to win one in football," said WO-S track coach and assistant football coach Toby Foreman. "They're not track guys that play football. These are football guys that also run track. That's the key. Until then, we're not going to be satisfied."
  10. Good job girls, also good luck next weekend at the State Tournament. :)
  11. Orange Crush beats Young Guns 3-0 in the championship game. Orange Crush allows 0 runs in bracket play going 4-0. In pool play they went 2-0 allowing only 1 run. Good job girls.
  12. I heard WO-S as a team won regionals with 80 points followed by Taylor w/ 77 points.
  13. Pete Amy 475 Eric Mitchell 441 Erick Guillory 359 Essie Bellfield 305 Dicky Taylor 161
  14. In the 12U division, the two Crush teams played for 3rd place. Collins/Worthy beat Shurgart 10-0. Not sure how the Breakers [2 teams] or Crush did in the 14U. Did not get to talk with BreakerCoach at all this weekend. Maybe someone will post how the 14U's did. Yes, they definitely did beat the crap out of us. Looked like our first year team was mentally beat before the game started, but they were definitely the better team today!! Maybe next time we can come within 8 or 9 runs of them!! ;D The 2 semifinal games were: TX Terror 3 Crush (Shugart) 1 Sting 96 1 Crush (Collins) 0 Terror beat Sting 96 1-0 to win the championship. Definitely a good weekend of softball!! Could have had a better umpire behind the plate for that 3rd place game though!!!! ;D ;D ;D Orange Crush (Collins) team also had a lot of problems with the Rookie umpire thru out the tournament. :) :)
