  1. Talk about it in Inside the 40 Acres James Haynes has seen his stock soar with an impressive run of summer camp performances, and the West Orange-Stark athlete is now ready to put his talents to the test during his senior season beginning this Friday. James Haynes opened some eyes this summer with his camp performances. Haynes, a 6-foot-1, 181-pound speedster, will make the move from running back to receiver this season, and he's been hard at work this summer to make sure it will be a smooth transition. "I've been a running back all my life and they moved me to receiver. My hands weren't as good as I wanted them to be. Worked all summer to get them to where they are now. So I've been working on that and trying to put a little muscle on my body," said Haynes. A talented pass-catcher that has this summer displayed terrific hands to go along with his athleticism, Haynes has welcomed the change of position. "When I moved up to varsity, I guess they just thought I was going to be a wide receiver. It was a change for me. I didn't even know how to get into a wide receiver stance," he said. "They had to teach me all the basics. I only started playing football in the sixth grade so I wasn't playing that long, and the only position I had ever played was running back. "I didn't know too much coming in but last year I learned a lot of things. I learned you have to block well, keep my feet under me, I learned the routes and right now I'm confident in everything I do." On the recruiting front, James is beginning to land on the radars of several area programs with his strong camp showing (including earning MVP at the National Under Classmen Ultimate 100 Combine in DeSoto), and there's one school that's standing out on his early wish list. "I would like to go to LSU," Haynes said. "But really, I'll go anywhere that's close to home. My family is from Louisiana. If I was able to go to a school around there, they could just take one day off to come watch me play instead of having to take the whole weekend." Haynes is also being watched by the Texas Longhorns, another program that's among his group of favorites. Haynes camped at Texas in 2007 and he attended the Horns' game against Texas Tech last season. "My coach had told me that Major Applewhite had called and asked about me. My coach said he wanted to send coach Applewhite a video of me after my second game," Haynes said. "I love Texas. I love the facilities, I love the people up there, the atmosphere around game time. It's really nice up there." As for a timeline, the blue-chip pass catcher said he's unsure if he'll make an early commitment or wait things out. "I'd have to talk to my parents. I haven't really looked at any schools as far as what I want to major in (sports medicine). So I'd like to check out everything and learn everything I can," Haynes said. "I'd rather wait and take my official visits, get to know the coaching staff and the players before I commit. When I make my decision, I want it to be a good decision that I can stick with."
  2. Letter of retraction--What Dr.J meant to type was that HJ was going to be 3-7 instead of 7-3. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
  3. Skipper do we lose a game due to a hurricane--------7-2 = 9 games
  4. Something tells me that Coop will not call in sick on Sunday. Coop tell Mike Friedman you will do the interview this time. :)
  5. After watching your teams two scrimmages, what do you feel like your teams record will be. WO-S 9-1
  6. David McNabb TheOldCoach.com Senior Editor Talk about it in the Message Boards Wherever you thought perennial Class 3A power West Orange-Stark was going to finish this year, you might want to move it up a couple notches. WO-S receiver/running back James Haynes showed speed, hands and several gears to burst into the open and into the spotlight at Schuman's National Underclass Combine in DeSoto featuring an invitation-only list of athletes for the Class of 2010 from across the Southwest and Midwest. www.myactionportraits.com West Orange-Stark junior WR James Haynes rose to the top of a regional Class of 2010 combine. The 6-0 ½, 180-pounder ran a 4.51 on a soft field turf that gave up no better time among the 260 participants from Texas to Minnesota. Haynes, who also will play defensive back for WO-S, was all but un-coverable and showed great athleticism and hands in the afternoon football drills. "Let me put it this way, if he were an '09 (recruit), I could call a couple of SEC coaches and have them look at his video tonight and he'd have scholarship offers tomorrow," said Barry Every, rivals.com's national recruiting analyst attending the combine. "(Haynes) was running an inside route full speed and the quarterback threw it over the wrong shoulder. He turned 180 degrees and made the catch looking like that was the direction he was running the whole way. He made plays like that all afternoon." Haynes was among many '010 prospects who jumped onto national radars. Grand Prairie's B.J. Christmas ran a 4.55 and showed he's fully recovered from a hip injury that kept him out at South Grand Prairie last season. He's transferring to GP. Cedar Park's Dom Espinosa, Little Elm's Garrett Sullivan were among the top linemen. Sullivan, who advanced a grade is only 15 heading into his third year on the Little Elm varsity. Cy Fair CB Duran Snoddy and LaGrange QB Josh Schneider all also consistently shined throughout the 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. day. If he weren't a Class of 2011, Killeen Ellison LB/RB Devon Hocutt might have been named LB of the day among his elders. Hocutt will run as a halfback/fullback along with recent Texas Tech commit Daniel Cobb in a power-running, 3-back offense under new coach Buddy McBride, a former DC who might have trouble letting the powerfully built, 5-11, 210-pound Hocutt off the defensive side. For Haynes, he could be a huge spark to a youthful offense at talent-laden WO-S, generally ranked in the Top 10 of pre-season polls. Haynes had all his explosiveness and acceleration despite driving all night with his dad, Jimmy Haynes, to get to the DeSoto combine. "I didn't get off work until 11 p.m. and we traded driving until we got here at about 4:30 a.m.," Haynes said. "We pulled into a Waffle House parking and slept a couple hours and then came over here." Haynes has come into his athleticism. His dad, who was a overachieving, undersized defensive end at Beaumont South Park, has been exposed to major camps in the past. He credited WO-S coach Dan Hooks and assistant Toby Foreman for helping prepare and know of upcoming events. Haynes also already has a strong performance at a Texas Tech camp.
  7. I believe the ump also told stircrazy to get his mask and he would let him ump behind the plate for the rest of the game but stircrazy said he forgot to bring it.
  8. Also Stircrazy came about as close as you can come to getting ejected from a game when he yelled at the ump YOUR MISSING A GOOD GAME and then the ump replied coach get in the dugout and do not come out again. :)
  9. 7) I like what I'm seeing from Ben Wells and Earl Thomas at safety. In fact, I like what I'm seeing so much that I'll go so far as to say that this position is better off right now than it ever was in 2007. Both kids have ball skills and both seem to have a lot of range and they make a lot of plays on the ball. Wells was around the ball more today than anyone I ever saw last season. Who knows how they will play against the run, but those two guys look great in coverage right now.
  10. Also 14) Deon Beasley is playing with a ton of confidence right now. He looks like a starter and is playing like one. Just like Chykie Brown, he's suddenly thinking less and reacting more, which is allowing his ability to take over.
  11. 1. The practices that coincide with junior days are always fun because it’s interesting to watch the prospects, see who looks the part and who doesn’t, and see how they interact with each other. The recruits were there for the first half of the workout before leaving to get a tour and information on the academic side of things. 2. No surprise here, but Mason Walters is the most physically impressive recruit that was on campus. In fact, Watlers is one of the most physically impressive players I’ve seen all year. That guy looks like he’s ready for college ball already. 3. Phillip Payne isn’t the most consistent pass catcher, but he did make a couple of very nice grabs in Saturday’s practice. 4. Jordan Shipley wasn’t as active as he was on Friday (that performance would have been tough to match) but he did have a couple of really nice grabs. Quan Cosby was involved in Malcolm Williams had some big catches, including one where he went up in the air to snag a bit of a duck from John Chiles. 5. The back-up quarterbacks were again a bit inconsistent, but there were some nice moments. Sherrod Harris hit Dan Buckner downfield for a big gain that drew applause from the crowd and he had a nice throw to Fozzy Whittaker on a wheel route in which Whittaker got behind the defense. John Chiles made some solid throws underneath but he was really struggling with his deep ball into the wind. G.J. Kinne has a nice arm, but he was hit or miss again. 6. Williams had another great grab on the sideline where he made the catch despite a lot of momentum and got his feet inbounds. After touching his toes, he had to jump over the boundary rope … good body control overall. 7. I said it yesterday, but Deon Beasley just makes plays. He had another interception in 1-on-1 drills and he was all over the place on Saturday with several pass break-ups. I just don’t see how they can keep him off the field this year (of course, I felt that way last year too). 8. Speaking of defensive backs that may be tough to keep off the field, Chykie Brown was impressive for the second straight day. He had several pass break-ups and is really playing with a lot of confidence. 9. Didn’t see Sergio Kindle yesterday but he was out there on Friday walking around without the aid of crutches. He did have a limp but it wasn’t anything too drastic. 10. Jeremy Hills is quick, but Fozzy Whittaker is just at a different speed when he’s got the ball in his hands. Not sure about his top-end speed, but he’s incredibly quick in those first 10 yards. 11. There’s been a lot of talk about Will Muschamp’s fiery personality and he was again active today, but Major Applewhite has a lot of that same spark. Applewhite usually runs from station to station when they’re doing the drills and he getting pumped up after the offense made good plays, including one deep catch by Shipley where Applewhite made it a point to cross the field to give Shipley some props. 12. On Buckner’s deep catch from Harris, he jumped up in the air and snagged the ball with one hand … just a great catch and the crowd definitely approved. 13. Did I mention that Chykie Brown looked really good. Just looking through my notes and he’s in there a few times. 14. Not much action at all from the tight ends. One ball was thrown Blaine Irby’s way and he almost made a nice catch in traffic, but overall it was a quiet day for the position. 15. 2008 commit D.J. Grant was on hand and he’s already got a college football body. Physically he’s just a lot bigger than the other high school players that were at the practice.
