  1. I sat on the LC-M side and heard two LC-M fan say I can't believe they stopped running from the Power I. UNBELIEVABLE-----Toby, Toby, Toby, Toby, Toby, Toby
  2. Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader LITTLE CYPRESS — Getting tested and playing high caliber teams is exactly what Todd Moody wanted in this season’s non-district schedule. First on the list was Conroe Caney Creek. A team known for speed and toughness. Check the Panthers off the list and move on. This week the Battlin’ Bears get another strong test when the West Orange-Stark Mustangs come to visit. Game time for the Orange Bowl is set for 7:30 p.m. at Battlin’ Bear Stadium. Another test and more preparation into what Moody and the Bears (0-1) hope will be a successful year. “The bottom line is we want to get into district and make the playoffs,†Moody said. “ Of course we want to win this Friday but more importantly I want our team to keep getting better. The kids understand that.†One area the Bears will look to correct will be in the rush defense. LC-M allowed 328 yards on the ground to Caney Creek, 180 coming from Panthers quarterback Joe Simmons. “We played a team with a good quarterback last week,†Moody added. “There is no need to panic here. You look for a game with a tough team and speed, we faced a team last week that had both at the same time.†The Mustangs (1-0) are coming off an impressive 22-14 comeback win over the Dayton Broncos. Mustangs junior quarterback Ortavious Hypolite rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns against Dayton as WO-S ran for 196 yards on the night. LC-M’s offense put up 285 yards against Caney Creek with 200 coming on the ground. Senior running back Kendrex Salter rushed for 158 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown before leaving the game with a leg injury. Moody said Salter is a “moment-to-moment†decision to play against WO-S. “He is getting better with each day,†Moody said. The Bears will also look to hold on to the football a little better against the Mustangs after losing two-of-three fumbles against the Panthers. “We had a couple of opportunities last week and just did not make the plays,†Moody added. “We watched the film and saw the mistakes we need to work on. The kids recover from disappointment faster than we do and they will respond. Losing a game is part of life. We have to keep our goals on our minds and continue to work hard.†Quarterback President Driver was 6-for-11 passing against Caney Creek with 85 yards with a touchdown and interception. James Miller led the Bears with three receptions for 19 yards and a score while Phillip Richard had a 44-yard catch.
  3. Van Wade The Orange Leader A meeting of “good old†Orange County District 20-4A friends will take place at Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s Battlin’ Bear Stadium tonight as the West Orange-Stark Mustangs venture to LC-M to face the Battlin’ Bears. The two schools separated by the most part by Interstate 10, renewed their long-time rivalry last season when the Mustangs defeated the Bears 35-14 at Dan R. Hooks Stadium last year to go up 21-2 in the all-time series. The Mustangs (1-0), ranked No. 8 in Class 3A in the recent Class 3A Associated Press state poll, downed Dayton, which is one of the favorites to capture the District 22-4A crown, 22-14 last week by scoring 22 unanswered second-half points. The Battlin’ Bears (0-1) fell to Conroe Caney Creek 33-21 at home last week against a Panther unit that went three-deep in the playoffs last year. The Mustangs outgained Dayton 258-199 in their victory, racking up 196 yards on the ground alone in the second half comeback. Quarterback Ortavious Hypolite bulled his way to 112 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries and scored all three of WO-S’ touchdowns. The Mustang defense held Dayton to just one first down in the second half and 33 yards. “I tell you, that was an emotional win for our kids last week,†said Mustang head coach Dan Hooks. “We defeated a very good Dayton team and now we’re getting ready for a tough LC-M squad this week and then all of a sudden, it’ll be a Bay City team next week. We have our hands full, to say the least.†LC-M senior tailback Kendrex Salter zipped his way to 158 yards on 11 carries and scored a touchdown in the Bears’ loss to Caney Creek in which three turnovers proved costly. The Bears also have a proven quarterback running the ship in President Driver. A young Bear defense allowed Caney Creek 385 yards, 328 of it coming via the ground. “The Bears are pretty darn salty on offense,†Hooks said. “The Salter kid can take it to the distance at any given moment and the Driver kid is a type of player that a team can lean on. Defensively, the Bears are just like us, they’re counting on a lot of young guys that are still learning a lot about Friday nights.†The LC-M-WO-S encounter is a matchup that Coach Hooks would love to see carry on way down the road. “We had a couple years there where we didn’t play and our kids missed that and I think their kids did too,†Hooks said. “We have kids that have known each other all of their lives and it’s a great game for both communities. Looking at it, we really need to play this game each year. Just look at the proximity of the two schools and the expenses alone that we both save.â€
  4. Garrett will be playing against LC-M trust me. Make that 2 Garretts playing next Friday @ LC-M. #20 AND #24
  5. Barbers Hill 18 Wharton 16 Late 4th Quarter from 3adownlow
  6. I was told by a WO-S coach this morning that Garrett will play against LC-M if he not to tired after he gets a week of running in.
  7. Does anyone know if Jardon O'Neal and Ke'L Blanchard still on the team.
  8. The WO-S OC did a good job on the play calling tonite and even had some complete passes in the middle of the field. :)
  9. The Mustangs were 2/2 in extra points tonite, must be the new goal post. Also the punter looked good.
  10. Hands down, Cornel Thompson of WO-S. Year after year always having one the best defense in the area if not state.
  11. Once again around 26 to 28 players.
  12. It would be nice if the Stangs and Indians could start playing each other again next year. I also think the Stangs beat the Indains 7-0 that year.
  13. I thought it was a pretty close game. What was the final score Gabe.
  14. Was his first name Kendell
  15. The Yellowjackets QB that year was unbelievable. Was he the coaches son.
  16. I hope the old saying is true "DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS" because the playcalling want get us far. ??? ??? ???
  17. Toby is the son of Mark Foreman. Mark Foreman come back to WO-S to get a chance to coach with his son Toby and then retired last Dec.
  18. Toby was one coach we could not afford to lose. I sure hope that Coach T defense will produce a lot of shutouts because the playcalling will kill us again this year.
