I'm pretty sure you can't play if your failing just because its spring break
Yes you can, there is something wrong with UIL rules when it comes to spring break.  We also had one starter this year who couldn't play because of grades, but he got to play during spring break.

Thats crazy

The reason players become eligible during holiday breaks of AT LEAST one week is because the UIL has deemed that those week(s) would be beyond the normal three week punishment for failing a class.  At XMAS, a player may pass the 3rd six weeks, but his grades won't be reported and collected until teachers can proof everything when they return from holiday break.  So a player would miss another two weeks of eligiblity (basketball mostly).  They feel it is better to let an ineligible kid get a week they shouldn't get than have an eligible kid miss more time than he deserved to miss.

Not saying I agree.  Just sayin......

District 38 caught District 37 during Spring Break, which was critical to their success.  Liberty and Livingston were both missing several starters, which changed the whole outlook of the games.  District 38 might be better, but it was more timing than talent.

...and there is the only nominee for the most ridiculous thing i've heard all year.
grow up and accept it, eh?

Hamshire, don't get on here acting like you can beat us again, that was our first game and we improved a lot. You guys lost to central as well

So you don't think HF has gotten better too? HF has beaten a lot of quality teams in the area.

First of all, missing starters does make a difference to a 3A first year program, but maybe not to an established 4A squad.  Why is everyone all over HF as a first year program?  Liberty is a first year program and they made the play-offs as well.  District 40 slapped district 38 anyway, so the conversation about which district is better (37 or 38) doesn't even matter.

Very true, I think district 40 wins the title.

Liberty does deserve respect for how far they have come for a first year varsity team as well. That is without a doubt. The only thing that makes HF's situation a little more spectacular is the fact that they came ahead of LCM and Central in district. Coming ahead of two 4a teams in district is pretty great if you ask me. Then going on to defeat vidor.. As close as the game was, HF deserves a lot of respect with how far they have come.

I thought they were gonna be obnoxious and all bark no bite, but they held pretty strong.

Obviously, you must be from district 37 so don't try to bring district 38 down with you! and seriously, all you have to be is decent to beat HJ, silsbee, and jasper because they arent very good AT ALL with all due respect. so basically, Liberty didnt have to do much at all to make playoffs. not trying to take anything from liberty but it was a given, they were going to make it either way.  on the other hand, hf had to work hard to make it, hf took third over two 4A teams, including one that makes it every year.

You know this is all fine and dandy. I realize this is just the boys side of it here  but after the 3rd playoff games are said and done, which district still has any of it's teams left? Could it be the Lady Raiders from district 37?

Way to go 37!  Lumberton is so awesome and 38 is just pathetic...how many 37 teams were in the 3rd round?????? ONE!  where were the rest of the awesome 37's last night?  At home or watching 3 from 38 still playing (or 1 from 37)...SO, this means that 37 is the best?  I love soccer and the people who comment about the sport ;D ???

There is little doubt 38 was the stronger district this year. When you play more competitive teams you tend to get stronger - this is the difference between 37 and 38 - thanks to the wisdom of UIL allgnment two years ago. Hopefully the new allignment due out April 1st will address this problem.
That said, the Lumberton Lady Raiders are to be congratulated for perservering through the district handicap, upending foes from the stronger district, and being the only team left in the playoffs.
Oh, and thanks for the love, 57.  ;D
