So when's Lamar going to start work on renovating the football stadium and build the new athletic complex?  Texas State just started on their stadium renovations so what's up the Lamar?  Anyone have any idea what's going on?

One would think that they would release a detailed feasibility study on the costs, infrastructure, budget, etc. UTSA has one, and every other startup football program does too.

I just now found this in last Friday's University Press:

“Until recently no one could bond money, but there’s been quite an upturn in the bond market,†Simmons said. “Sometime around the first of March, we’ll be issuing bonds to complete all of our planned construction.†Construction plans include a soccer field, an addition to the chemical engineering building and improvements to athletic facilities in preparation for the return of football, Simmons said.

“Right now we’re in the process of receiving bids for our new soccer field and our new turf for Cardinal Stadium (Provost Umphrey Stadium),†Simmons said. “As soon as the bonds are issued, we will begin construction on the stadium, the athletic complex and the addition to the

chemical engineering building.â€

After a segment on local news channel KBMT on Jan. 13 implied that the lagging economy could mean postponing football until 2011, the possibility has caused growing concern on campus.

Simmons says he is putting the rumor to rest.

“That is absolutely false,†he said. “We will begin football in 2010. Now that the bond market has reopened, we’re only about 30 to 60 days behind. In the long run, that’s not going to hold us up at all.â€

Great news but I'd love to see some more information about the athletic complex and stadium upgrades.
