Brenham 11 Lamar Consolidated 10 Final Game 2/LC ADVANCES!!!

Recommended Posts

LC will be your state champs.

I'll take Calallen or Lake Travis.

I said that not knowing who was left. Calallen and Travis have to play each other to see who goes to Austin right? I'm still taking LC, but your probably right.

Correct..

My picks are self-motivated. I watched the PNG/LC series and have never seen such a lack of class by players and coaches on the LC side. Obviously, not all of their players, I know a couple of them and they are great kids. A couple of Brenham parents that I know told me the exact same thing regarding the Brenham/ LC series.

My personal opinion is LC doesn't have the pitching depth to win it all.....Friendswood just might take them in a best of three.

With that said, I give LC credit for talent...they may be the best hitting team in the state from top to bottom. Also, they are still playing and we (PNG/BH ) ain't.  ;) Just my two cents.

Watch for Vista Ridge, they are a new school. been around for a couple of years in the Leander/Cedar Park area. They are on thier way to 5A, they could pull it out. Anyways your right, LC has some snobs and have always been like that. They are very confident people in that area. One part is the slumbs and the other is very rich.  It's a shame they have to act like that, but it's up to the coach and parents to stop that.

Yea we will see how cocky they are when they move up to five-a next year. 07 i sit with many of the LC parents and kids at BH and had no problems at all. Talk about cocky fans Brenh. has a lot of room to talk. Ha I got my first taste of them when they played LCM in Kingwood a couple of years back. Yea right.  ??? 07 you going to the LC vs Friendswood series?

ETBU,

Not sure if I'll make that series or not......TBA  ;D "JR" graduates this weekend.  You going ?

Maybe I need to clarify my statements....I intentionally did not include the LC parents. Ironically, at the PNG/LC games I attended, I spent the entire night conversing with 3 LC parents....who were great...really enjoyed the conversation. Made what I witnessed on the field even more surprising.

Whats up 07. Should have been at the LC/ Brenham series. I know you guys can hit, but yikes, Brenham can hit, top to bottom. I met some very nice gentlemen from Brenham whom I talked to for 5 innings during game 3. After reading what you said about talking to some friends from Brenham, I feel a need to respond. From our side it was the same group of dads trying to rattle the pitchers. Believe it or not, there was no harping at the umpires. I think both sides will agree that the umpires were in control in all 3 games and did a great job.I'm sure if you call your friend back, they will not deny that they had their share of ugly fans. The group of young men who entered the stadium with air horns blasting and for 2 games hollered at the coaches and players using a megaphone, were just as bad. Maybe not in their eyes, but sure enough in ours. I think both sides got a bad rap for a few bad apples. A few go wrong and everyone gets blamed. No one from the Brenham side seemed to care when the kids with the horn were calling our 1st base coach fat a** or umpa-lumpa every time he called out signals to the players. They also made sure they harassed Randal Grichuk all game in left field. The 2 that struck home for me was as my wife, daughter, and I were leaving the parking lot, I noticed the boys making all of the noise were waiting where the bus was heading out, and I knew why they were there. My first mistake was telling my wife something was going down so she wanted to get closer to hear what they had to say. She couldn't hear what they said or what our boys may have said, but I think she responded because of the comments about our 1st base coach. All she said was, aren't we a little old to be name calling. Their response was real classy. Shut up you ugly old hag.First off I don't think 54 is old, and she ain't ugly. Also one of the moms shot the finger at the boys after they passed by. So here it is , this debate could go on forever. As I mentioned in a post in our series with your guys, don't let everyone get blamed for the doings of a few. I will be keeping an eye on PNG next season to see the progress of the up and coming young stars you have. I know it's a long way off, but good luck next year !!!!!

Mustangs open regional final series Thursday

By Joshua Buckley

The Daily News

Published May 27, 2008

FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood Mustangs will play for the Class 4A Region III baseball title at the University of Houston this week.

The Mustangs, in the regional finals for only the second time in school history, will take on Lamar Consolidated in a best-of-three series beginning Thursday at Cougar Baseball Field on the UH campus.

“We know they are a good team,†said Friendswood coach Charlie Taylor. “But Bay City beat them, and we’ve played Bay City already in the playoffs. We know they are beatable, so we’ll go toe-to-toe and hope something good comes out.â€

Game 1 is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, with Game 2 set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. If necessary, Game 3 will be 2 p.m. Saturday.

Champions of District 24-4A, Lamar Consolidated has been put to the test in their last two playoffs series. The Mustangs eliminated Port Neches-Groves in three games in the quarterfinals and needed three games again to take out Brenham. Brenham was one of the favorites to win Region III.

Friendswood (25-8 record) is currently riding a 15-game winning streak, including six straight postseason contests. They swept Austin McCallum in the regional semifinals over the weekend.

In their last two playoff series, the Mustangs have started Stefan Myers at pitcher in Game 1 and Andrew Beasley in Game 2. Both have been spectacular, limiting some of the best offenses in the region.

Taylor said he expects the Mustangs to be another strong offensive team, especially after scoring 26 runs in the regional semis. He also said he hasn’t determined which one of the two aces will start Game 1.

“Either one of those guys is great,†Taylor said. “We’re going to find out what (Lamar’s) hitting is like and what we want to go after them with in the first game. We’ll play it by ear and make a decision some time this week.â€

Despite being on a hot streak during the last two months, Taylor said Lamar Consolidated will likely be the favorites to win the series.

“We are going in as the underdog,†Taylor said, “and we like it that way.â€

If what I heard from an eye witness at all three games between Brenham and LC was accurate, the same pitcher that pitched a complete game 7 inning win in game won on thursday, came in in game three and pitched final 6 innings on Saturday to get the win, He pitched close to 200 pitches in less than 48 hours time. LC will get beat in 2 games by friendswood because they obviously have no pitching depth, but that kid will never be the same this weekend. And the Coach should be removed of his duties immediately and brought up on charges of child abuse!!! How can a parent allow someone to do that to there child???? Simply idiotic and unexcuseable.

They person also mentioned the fans from both sides were very vocal and at times rude, the only difference was this, the out of control individuals on Brenham side were 18-20 years of age, the out of control individuals on LC side were 40+, but the comments and unexusable behavior were the same. One from kids the other from mature adults. But there is no way the actions of the young men on the field were the same. The Brenham fan made very detailed comments of the unsportsman like behavior of the LC players both during the game and after the win. There was even an instance after the series was over that the same out of control dads were ranting and raving directly in front of the Brenham side, on the field side by side with the players, to the point that a Brenham police officer had a confrontation with a parent on the field about his behavior and was met by the head coach who also made a scene and almost had to be escorted off the field for his actions to the police officer, the whole time the AD of the district was standing side by side and never intervened. Talk about institutional control, this all on the field in front of the dejected Brenham players. Now, I wasn't there but I know the source and they are very much in the know about proper behavior at sporting events.

So make your own judgements about the facts.

Stepchild, your post is dead on. I know I am a biased observer and a Brenham parent, and both sides behavior left something to be desired during this hard fought series. When three games are this tight with so much on the line, there is bound to be some bad blood and friction. But you described almost exactly what took place on the field after the series. I still can't believe the actions of parents at a high school baseball game. Yes, some Brenham teenagers got out of line with the megaphones ragging on the Lamar coach, but that was kids, not adults. I have been playing or watching baseball for over 40 years now, and I have never seen a team display the poor sportsmanship and cockiness I witnessed from the LC team and parents. I would have hated to see how they would have acted had they lost. All that being said, it was a great series and LC is a very talented team. I also agree with you about there junior P Brady Rodgers. This was a case of a coach putting winning above all else. I can promise you if our coach had done the same thing and came back with Mangan in Game 3, Brenham would still be playing. But that was not an option, and his dad wouldn't have allowed it anyway. I understand the young man's competitiveness and all, but sometimes you have to do what is right, win or lose. It will be interesting to see how the kid feels in the next series, and I hope for the kid's sake, there are no long term effects.

Stepchild and Cubfan12

In the 2000 playoffs LCM faced a team with a great pitcher.  However he did not throw 7 innings on Thursday and come back to throw 6 innings on Saturday.  He threw 7 innings on Thursday and SEVEN innings on Saturday in relief.

The team LCM defeated on that Saturday?  The Brenham Cubs

Now that the shoe is on the other foot, do you stand by all of the comments you made like the one below?

"And the Coach should be removed of his duties immediately and brought up on charges of child abuse!!! How can a parent allow someone to do that to there child? Simply idiotic and unexcuseable."

Bearbooster, I didn't make that quote, I just voiced concern for the young man. And I never said that Brenham has never been guilty of the same overuse of a pitcher's arm. Ask a guy by the name of Jon Peters, who set a national high school record for consecutive wins while pitching for Brenham in the late 80's, what overuse will do to a pitchers arm. He never threw a meaningful pitch in college. There probably isn't a coach around that hasn't done it at one time or another. I would also bet that Brenham parents and fans were questioning the decision and not very happy about it when it happened in 2000. What about LCM, ever have it happen there, and how did you feel about it?

    • Heading into the summer and before two a days get going… what are some concerns or positives about your team heading into next season? I’d like to hear from some H-F people because according to some they are the district favorites heading into the season. I’m just trying to pass some time at least until we get our DCTF magazines lol For Bellville my concern is filling some holes on defense… specifically at LB,S, and DT… bright spots ? Basically the entire offensive line returns that paved the way for 3 RBs to rush for more than 1600 yards a  on the season (2 of those RBs will return as well). With all that said Bellville should still be a region favorite this upcoming season.
    • That’s not a choice, it’s the same thing and equally dangerous.    I’ve literally heard (with my own listening ears) the R County Chairman boast in a speech that “the only time I’ve ever voted for a Democrat was when I voted for Hillary in the Democrat primary! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!” You’ll never guess who is tweeting all over the place about how we need closed primaries this week.  Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.  Escalation of force.  These are concepts that you completely understand and teach.  Whatever we do today, we’ll pay for tomorrow. Impeach a President over something stupid? They’ll impeach yours twice.  Promise to lock up your political rival if you get elected? You can’t cry over somebody else doing it to you… even if you were just blowing a little smoke for the morons.   The old days of “don’t throw rocks if you live in glass houses” has now become “I’m pretty sure I’ve got more rocks than they do.” The frightening thing is that Ds only do it to Rs. Rs do it to Ds and other Rs alike without hesitation.
    • Definitely does NOT sound like a fit for PN-G.
    • No offense, but both sides do it.  The Rs in Texas want to do away with decades of precedent and demand that Dems are no longer given chair positions on any committees in the Tx House. It sounds reasonable enough, until you arrive at a point when the Ds enjoy a single seat majority in the house, select the most leftist speaker of all times, and the refuse to give Rs any say in the legislative process by refusing to give them any committee chairs.     Experience has shown me that any time a party seeks to consolidate power in a legislative body, it backfires.    What I don’t like is a world where we cheer for Manchin for doing his own thing, but also re-elect guys like Paxton and Patrick when they make threats to R Legislators if they don’t do exactly what the Radical Right demands. Our Rep here in Hardin County lost his spot for voting against private school vouchers-his wife is a teacher. He also voted his conscience on the Paxton impeachment.  It cost him his seat…. Not because of the will of the voters in his district, but because if millions of outside dollars pumped into the race from outside the district and even an endorsement of his unknown challenger by Donald Trump himself.    Why do people like you applaud Manchin for being his own man and then vote against Phelan for doing the same thing?
