That figures
I no a coach that coach girls basketball that has done very well as a boys coach.
[/quote Great, so is this the same guy, if not what does it matter, this is HF, not NW or BS wherever those are? they could have had proven successes and they chose another route?

3.
Select baseball is not for everyone. With that being said the problem with some or most High School baseball teams is that the Head Coach on the Baseball field is not the that good of a baseball coach. Most AD's hire coaches for Football first and then baseball gets the left-overs that can coach that sport too (mostly in small towns) That is why you see so many kids keep playing select baseaball. The only way for those kids to get good coaching is to go out and pay for it at the private level.
I really think this is a very biased statement. I have known MANY very good high school baseball coaches in my time. The desire to compete in select ball is motivated by one thing and one thing only, dreaming of being seen in order to get an offer. ALL feel playing year-round will improve your skills, playing with better teams will improve skills, and playing all year increased the opportunity to be seen by someone. But the coaches coaching select teams are dads of a player, a former HS coach, etc, What makes them better baseball coaches? If your good enough they will find you!!!! And if your an athlete you should play all sports otherwise you are only being selfish!!! ALL SELECT BALL HAS DONE IS MAKE MONEY FOR THE ORGANIZERS and eliminate TEAM CONCEPT.
4. How can you write about Alvarez and passing game attack and keep a straight face? Alvarez is all a run first, period, and eNNIS IS IN FOR A culture shock with what they are about to go to. Interesting hire, good fo Jack. Scat right and scat left.
5.

IMO this game shouldn't have been this close.  HJ seemed to move the ball with somewhat relative ease, but almost every drive stalled with the 42,000 penalties - HOLDING, HOLDING, HOLDING!!!!!!!  I'm interested to know how many penalty yards the Hawks incurred in this game.  For AAW & all Silsbee basketball fans, one of HJ's starting bigs went out early with a shoulder injury.  He is scheduled for an MRI on the shoulder Monday.  I'm sure coach Sutherland is awaiting the results with great eagerness.
Just another reason why basketball players should not play football in high school.  :o
Just another reason why HJ continues to beat HF in football as well as basketball because they don't feel as you do!!
6. Anyone know any more about this player at HF. Update on his status?
7.
I agree, but maybe we have a coach now that will stay the course and BUILD the program back to where we belong!
Yeah the previous coaching regimes took HF from state power status it was and ran the program into the bottom of the barrell it is now, right, because they "didnt't stay the course." But you are right, that is the problem with HF (staying the course) but I believe you should be looking in the mirror and also in a different building other then the fieldhouse to really find the problem at HF. Good luck DP
8. Nowhere near 590. In fact I believe it was 527. They are now the smallest in the district.
9. I do believe that BH should begin to now lower there sites and realize money can't buy all. There are plenty of quality coaches out there, but I believe BH is reaching beyond reality in the coaches they are targeting.
10. Can you tell me it was about their "behinds" and size that makes them look mean? Just curious?
11. He didnt play first half of district in Louisiana actually, he was on the BC JV until his days were done when he could not play. I did re-read the quote and I will stand corrected about the original quote but not his original intent on the quote but if you read my quote you will see I said he didnt begin the season on the JV in BC. I said he played the early season in Louisiana on the varsity in BC (in fact some 18 games) and then transferred to BC in the middle of the season on March 1. Then sat 15 days which then allowed him to play varsity for BC. I too am curious to here the truth of WHY he came to BC in the first place
12. He didnt play first half of district in Louisiana actually, he was on the BC JV until his days were done when he could not play. No sir Gabe your wrong go back and look and you will find the kid played the first half of Louisiana baseball season in DeQuincy, then moved over the first of March. UIL states all transfers half to sit 15 calendar days before playing varsity even if approved. And the DEC is made up of the Superintendents of the district not the AD's.
13. Why can it not happen again? The DEC of 21AAA allowed it to take place once why wouldn't they allow it again??? That whole deal was a joke, embarrassment, and travesty to the entire district to have allowed him to enter the district at the mid-point of baseball anyway having played the first half of the season in Louisiana.
14. I saw this online. HF will be fine in the long run, I assure you whichever offense is run. I believe this is a lost art in coaching football, structuring your schemes around your personnel. Good preview and interview.
15. There has been alot of construction at HF this summer. I think they are just replacing the torn up bleachers on visitor side. But no sign of press box as of yet. Softball field looks almost done with exception of fence. But there is 5-6 projects going on around the stadium. Will it be done before first game? I seriously doubt it.
16. Heard two Hamshire-Fannett Longhorn football players have made verbal commitments to play football at Lamar University beginning next season. Jake Koehl, 6'3", 240lb, DE and Seqouia Harry, 6'2", 285lb, OL, both have confirmed they have made verbal commitments to Head Coach Ray Woodard to be Lamar Cardinals. Congratulations to both.
17. With all the changes and cancellations, HF Longhorns are looking for a game for next Friday, Oct.3, 2008. Anyone interested call Coach Walt Mangan, 409-679-2468, ASAP. He has been in contact with Sealy and Navasota but would rather play local.
18. I drove around local communities yesterday and saw some substantial damage in the districts of HF and EC. Both communities were VERY hard hit. Many houses and businesses leveled, but worse is the water damage to areas between Hwy 73 and Hwy 124. As far as the stadiums, EC's stadium looked on scathed, but the gym and buildings around it were in bad shape. HF's football stadium looked to take the worst of the storm. Both press boxes demolished and a pile of rubble on the ground. Ticket boths and ALL storage buildings gone. But all light poles were still standing. The remainder of the HS campus seemed in fairly good shape.
19. I am sure the Horns woldn't mid playing Newton, how about Kirbyville they are open as well.
20. Just heard from the Coach Mangan that HF wants to pla a game on the open date (Oct.3) due to this cancellation. Call him at 409-679-2468 when we get back.
21. Can someone tell him or elaborate on the specific items included in these figures? In other words, are these only the supply/equipment budgets or does this include transportation, officials, entry fees, field maintenance, etc?? It makes a big difference because if these are total athletic budget expenditures these are very low figures when you consider transportation costs range from $30,000 to $50,000, officials from $20,000 to $30,000 depending on the number of sports (5A's probably in the neighborhood of 20 to 26 different sports with 3-5 teams for each sport). If it is only equipment budgets 20 programs on $150,000 would average about $7500 per program which in decent for non-football sports annually.
