Wow, OF wins this one with great shooting and discipline.  Coldspring definitely had some athletes, no question, but they couldn't shoot to save their lives.  Being able to put the ball in the hoop consistently, and playing solid defense is the key to basketball.  You can be fantastic athletes but bad shooters and lose.  I mean, look at our NBA players when the play the foreign countries.  Greatest athletes in the world but don't play as a team and can't shoot with the foreigners. Great job guys, now lets keep building on this success and hopefully we won't have the idiot that the girls had reffing the game.

Hard-nose Bobcats rough up Trojans

WOODVILLE — Utilizing a stingy defense and the hot hand of junior guard Tyler Angelle, the Orangefield Bobcats steadily had their foot across the throats of the Coldspring Trojans Tuesday night in their Class 3A Region III bidistrict playoff game at Woodville High School.

Angelle fired in 20 of his game-high 24 points in the first half, enabling the Bobcats to gain control as Orangefield went on to sink the Trojans 66-55.

Next up for the Bobcats, the fourth-ranked Navasota Rattlers in the area round Friday night at 7:30p.m. at Cleveland High School.

Orangefield (23-9) led by as much as 52-33 early in the fourth period and held off the Trojans (22-10), who got as close as 62-55 with 0:39 left.

Orangefield coach Rea Wrinkle was thrilled about the huge victory.

“The kids put forth a massive effort tonight against an excellent team,†said Wrinkle. “They came out early and set a good pace and never showed any jitters. It was a superb team effort on both ends of the floor.â€

The Bobcat defense held Coldspring leading scorers in post James Scott and guard Chad Allen in check for most of the game. Both players averaged 14 points a game coming in. Scott, who got saddled with three fouls at the beginning of the second period, finished with 10 points and eight rebounds while Allen had 13 points and five boards, with eight of his points coming in the final six minutes.

“Defensively, we knew we had to clamp down on those two guys and for the most part, we did that,†Wrinkle said. “We got them in early foul trouble by taking it strong to the basket. Once we did that, it opened up our outside game too.â€

Angelle had plenty of offensive help from his Bobcat teammates.

Senior guard Jared Helton, who did well checking Allen, finished with 14 points. Helton was 9-of-14 from the free-throw line and tied senior post Jeremy Granger as they both had seven rebounds apiece.

Sophomore Zach Hayes popped in 12 points to aid the Bobcat cause.

Angelle set the tone early when he got loose for nine points in the first period. Granger hit three free throws and Hayes had a bucket as the Bobcats led 14-11 at the end of the quarter.

The Trojans had no answer for Angelle to start the second period as the hot-shooting guard set the tone in the period when he unleashed two straight three-point bombs with one of them turning out to be a four-point play after he was fouled. Helton pitched in by tallying six points in the quarter.

“Tyler, what more can you say, he was in a zone,†said Wrinkle. “When he gets hot, he doesn't miss. Tyler didn't score against Jasper in our last game while Coldspring was scouting. They left him alone early and he made them count. And then he made them count when they were all over him.â€

Orangefield found itself up 33-23 at intermission with its superb defense as the Bobcats held Allen and Scott to just five first-half points.

The Bobcats pounded away at the Trojans in the third period, taking off on a 16-8 spurt. Helton along with Derrick Evans and Casey Sparks off the bench, all buried three-pointers in the period while Hayes muscled his way inside for five points as Orangefield grabbed a 49-31 cushion heading to the fourth.

A power move inside by Granger gave the Bobcats their biggest lead of the night at 52-33 with 6:58 left in the game.

The Trojans, who outscored the Bobcats 24-17 in the fourth, kept whittling away at the lead ad a running jumper in the lane with 0:39 left got Coldspring to within 62-55 but it was too little, too late for the District 22-3A runnerups.

The Trojans finished with a 42-30 rebounding edge.

Zavius Johnson, a standout running back for the Trojan football unit, led his squad with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Guard Eric Burch added 10 points and five boards for the Trojans.

The Bobcats finished with 15 turnovers while Coldspring committed 16. Orangefield finished 22-of-32 from the free-throw line while the Trojans went just 7-of-14.

Now the Bobcats turn to Navasota, which stands at 25-2.

“It'll be a tough game for us, but this team has endured some tough games this year against some great competition,†Wrinkle said. “We've battled Silsbee and Hardin-Jefferson in some close games in district, probably the toughest district in the state. We know Navasota has excellent size and they have a super post man that is about 6-9.â€
