Both first teams ran 12 plays consecutively. Bellville scored once Needville didn’t score. Bellville hired a coach that was at Liberty Hill and he has brought more of the Liberty Hill version of the Slot T/Wing T with him

These two teams ran more of another controlled session than live I’d say… Both teams started on their own 30. Bellville scored twice. Once on a sustained drive and punched it in from 6 yards out.. The other was a 45 yard run. Bellville 2nd team offense scored a couple times. Needville didn’t score with their first or second teams. Offensively I was happy for Bellville… gotta polish some things as far as snap timing but you can tell a difference in the offense as far as the style of the Slot T. Defensively this will be the weakest Bellville has been on the defensive line in a good bit, but to counter maybe the best secondary we have had since the state run a few years ago. Plenty of things to build on and everyone came out healthy which is what you wanna see from your first scrimmage.

You know as well as I do that scrimmages are run mostly not like real games. 

In controlled scrimmages there's no kicking game involved, there is no returning of interceptions or fumbles, no tackling of the QB (so no sacks that would put the down and distance different), plays are limited to a certain number therefore a team could be driving but reach their limit of plays, since no kickoffs ball always starts on the 30, 2nd and 3rd teams play (which in most cases they never see the field in games as an entire unit), the play clock is not used so therefore there are no delay of game penalties, etc. etc. 

Most importantly, there are no won/loss records that include scrimmages.

Now, if all high school scrimmages were run just like NFL preseason games, then I could see where one could claim a win or a loss. Even the NFL doesn't keep up with scrimmages between two teams which happens a lot. Most times two teams that play a preseason game will scrimmage each other a day or so beforehand. There are no scores or wins or losses accounted for in those. Even when high school scrimmages are "game like" they are never 100% game like. Most times there is a running clock and the play clock is not used accurately.

Let's be honest, there are just too many variables that come into play or not come into play in controlled scrimmages where a win or loss can be claimed. 

I think it's find to state that one team "dominated, had the upper hand, put a hurting on, etc." on the other team. Particularly when it's obvious that one team is much better than the other or in some cases the team is much worse than the other.

To put a win or a loss in a scrimmage is just not an accurate way to assess a scrimmage in my opinion.

It was pretty ugly all around for Huffman. The center rolled the ball to the QB all night and they couldn't even really run any plays because of it. Their defense is as bad as advertised. It's going to be a long year for them.

The good news is that it's only the first scrimmage so they have time to get everything corrected. There have been plenty of teams that do not start out the season great but end great!

I guess I stand corrected.  I looked and KJAS.com had the scrimmage on the 13th.  But later I saw on here that it's the 14th!

Not sure how it went during the controlled or live portions of the scrimmage, or how accurate her report is, but she mostly knows what's going on. Watching Broussard in practice this year, he's getting scary good. 

She had it right 7-2. Overall HF looked good. Broussard missed on a couple of early deep balls, Reed was a little rusty at LB, but will be fine by the time first game rolls around, Sebastian is going to be a problem for opposing teams on both sides of the ball.

I don't think enough people have put enough stock into how much Jones and Watley meant to this team. There's no "adjusting" to losing them. They won't be a bad team, but this isn't gonna be close to last year's team.

There's an extremely high likelihood that losing two 1000 yard rushers (seniors) is going to hurt.  Returning a huge line and a good running quarterback will keep them relatively competitive... Probably contending in their new district...  but a hole was left for sure.  Very few places can lose that much talent and just pick up right where they left off.

Also sounds like the starting QB got hurt 5 plays into the scrimmage. His brother the backup got hurt a few days ago… so they essentially had their third string in if I’m understanding the coach in his interview I saw. But yes you are 100% correct on all of the above as well

Jones might be leaving an even bigger hole on the defensive side. I think relatively competitive is reasonable, but they're only contending for second, and only because Barbers Hill got their second "not for athletic reasons" quarterback transfer in two years.
