CS. Posted Monday at 04:59 PM Report Posted Monday at 04:59 PM If you want to play by the rules that teams like SOC and others do, I have no problem with it. You want your kid to compete with top talent, great. But that definitely needs to be addressed with a rule that the school must play in a larger classification congruent with schools that have near Unlimited talent with large enrollments. If you can get recruits in every single year, you are now no different than the largest classification in the State. That's how a 5A-D2 school has 20+ D1 recruits every single year..... suddenly. in Dallas ISD no less. And they are not the only one. Argyle does it. There are plenty more. It's not Rocket Surgery. Is that your understanding? Quote
CS. Posted Monday at 05:57 PM Report Posted Monday at 05:57 PM That is the understanding of how it's supposed to work in an honest process. You're assuming everyone is honest, which in itself is naive. They are NOT honest. They are constantly using loopholes and skirting the rules. This isn't assumption, it's 100% happening. It's worse in Dallas than any other Region. I have known many coaches and players in that entire Region - they know it's happening and they know nothing will be done. You can continue to assume everyone is honest. I can tell you that I've seen it happen to schools that didn't deserve it, while other schools benefitted from it. One example is a smaller 5A-D2 school at the time had the horses to make a run but the QB decided to go to a larger school with more notoriety. That left the smaller school with a QB that didn't quite have the ability to take them where they probably would have gone. That transfer was not an honest one and neither are the majority. That is the same for all schools regardless. Open enrollment is irrelevant. It does help stock up the lower grades. Quote

Open enrollment does not impact UIL eligibility. Just because they enroll does not mean they are eligible for varsity sports. If they live outside the district boundaries they are likely to sit out a year. You know this does not happen. SOC brings in kids every year from outside the district. I will wait while you name me one that sat a year. Isaiah Udom played for Mansfield his sophomore year then started for SOC his junior year. I am sure he moved from an A rated school district to a school with historically poor academics and a 97% poverty level because of something other than football. There are two to three every year. Show me one that sat out. LHJJ05 1 Quote

Mansfield could have checked the box on Udom and a hearing could have been scheduled, but they did not check the box for whatever reason...thats the process as it exists today..... A lot of the kids SOC gets from out of their attendance zone enroll as freshmen..they 365 then they have established residency and are eligible as sophomores LHJJ05, aki1994, Mr. Buddy Garrity and 2 others 2 3 Quote

WOSdrummer99 Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago Its my understanding that coaches may not check the box cuz they would expect the same courtesy in return. Imo that is breaking the rules. We could go back to the starting QB transfer from WOS to LCM and then back to WOS for his Sr season. Someone checked the box and he played JV as a JR. Nobody broke the rules in this case. Looking back now it was an honorable decision. Quote

Even if they do not check the box, the DEC still reviews the transfer and can still not accept the transfer. They can also "accept" the transfer even if the former coach check's the box. Feel free to tell us exactly what rule was broken. I've raised this issue multiple times because I believe there are documented and firsthand examples that warrant discussion. Dismissing those examples without examining them doesn't address the underlying concern. One example I personally witnessed was two SOC coaches discussing their quarterback after a state championship loss. One coach remarked, "We ain't winning one with this cat. I hope we get [player] to move in." While a single conversation does not prove systemic wrongdoing, it illustrates the mindset that many believe contributes to the issue. There is information available for those willing to research it. I don't claim to have every piece of evidence compiled, but it's inaccurate to suggest there is no basis for these concerns. At the same time, it's equally unsupported to categorically state that these situations never occur. Both positions require evidence. From my own experiences around these programs, I've spoken with coaches who have expressed frustration over the competitive imbalance they believe exists. The concern extends beyond one school and has been raised in discussions involving programs such as Denton Ryan, Argyle, DeSoto, and South Oak Cliff, among others. Their view is that some schools benefit from player movement in ways that place neighboring programs at a competitive disadvantage. None of my comments are based on rumors or what I wish were true. They are based on firsthand observations, conversations with coaches, and concerns that have been expressed within the Texas high school football community. Those concerns were also reflected in the anonymous coach responses published in the Dave Campbell's Texas Football coaches survey, where coaches openly discussed transfer-related issues and competitive balance. I think what you are pointing to is a system that absolutely has flaws and isnt perfect...the question remains how do you build a system in today's environment where open enrollment and charters exist and you dont punish kids who move legitimately AND would also hold up to inevitable court challenges.. I don't want kids punished. Not at all. I want to see an even playing field. Create the new classification and be done with it. SOC and others have shown that with the talent they bring in, they can compete with 6A schools. Quote
