purple reign Posted 16 hours ago Report Posted 16 hours ago This game could be for the district championship although Crosby could still be involved in a 3-way tie. Both teams are in the top 10 in the DCTF poll. Angleton is reeling from a couple of key injuries last week playing Kempner. Their QB Bryce Duron went down, he who has passed for 1367 yds. on 66 of 89 throws (74%) and also has carried 25 times for264 yds. So he can't really be replaced. In his place will be the 3rd string QB Damien Simpson since the 2nd guy went down several weeks ago and is out for the season. Simpson has completed 5 of 7 passes in relief and has run 5 times for 58 yds. So it's unsure how this changes the offense. Simpson is only about 5'8". Making matters worse, WR Wesley Jackson was also lost who has 429 yds in receptions. Taking his place will be the HC's older son, Jake Brittain who is 6"3" but only has 5 receptions for 58 yds. I thought this game would be streamed on LPsportsnet, but I don't see it mentioned there. Quote

AggiesAreWe Posted 15 hours ago Report Posted 15 hours ago DCTF has Angleton as a 6 point favorite. Stepp has LP by 5. He mentions the loss of the Angleton QB. OlDawg 1 Quote

I think LP was caught in the trap game last week against Crosby looking ahead to this game. Almost cost them. Coaches didn’t give out POTW kudos for the game. I think the boys probably got an earful. Of course, like Stepp said, to be looking ahead & still win against a quality team in Crosby showed something in itself. It was ugly though. Even the band was a little late. The whole night looked off. Not sure DCTF computer factors in injuries. Quote

Wonder if Angleton throws out Jammer in some wildcat QB packages just to ensure he has the ball in his hands OlDawg 1 Quote

Wonder if Angleton throws out Jammer in some wildcat QB packages just to ensure he has the ball in his hands My thinking. There will be some new wrinkles LP can’t prepare for I’m sure. I was even wondering if he could pass at all. Neland (sp) is also a solid RB, and Angleton uses multiple. Their rush game is no slouch itself. Pretty sure LP was already thinking about using Smith also as DB or Safety, to shore up the defensive backfield. That’s what I would do if it was me. Maybe playing another RB where Ruffin could stay more focused on D. Rojas has played well. We’ll see. Quote
OlDawg Posted 14 hours ago Report Posted 14 hours ago I’m still a little confused why Duron was still in the game up 42-0, or 42-6, against a team your JV could beat anyway. Injuries can happen any time. But, that just seems a little foolish. He was in the game late last week also, and Angleton was up by 60. Sorry. Have to question the coaching decisions on some of that. LP kept Ruffin out for 2 games when he was a little dinged, and Simon’s carries have been kept down these last games. The passing game has been used more. Also, Berneathy has brought in subs early for 3 of the last 4 games. Crosby was the exception. Players getting valuable experience, and minimizing chances for injuries to starters as best as can be done. I wasn’t a fan of the alternating QB situation at first either. But, LP’s making it work, and they now have—basically—2 starting QB’s. Quote

I believe it was just the 2nd Qtr when Duron got hurt, if thats when it happened, my guess was the plan was probably to pull him at halftime...its unfortunate for Angleton.... Quote

I know La Porte has a really good freshman RB but I'm guessing they dont think he's ready for varsity yet....I think if they had a back even close to Ruffin they'd move Ruffin back to defense full-time and only use him sparingly on offense....I also think in the playoffs regardless we'll see Ruffin and Smith get snaps in key moments in the secondary.... Mentioned in thread discussing 5A R3D1 PO’s about my positive thoughts on 11-5A vs 12-5A maybe not aging well. I didn’t want to start this game thread, or do the usual weekly summary I do for 11-5A until an Angleton poster mentioned the injuries. That’s why they weren’t up yet. Angleton is still a very good, dangerous club. But, obviously, this hurts. I just don’t understand why—with the biggest game of the year so far coming up—way ahead of an inferior opponent with your BU QB already out for the season—you haven’t pulled up the 3rd string QB to get reps in varsity action with game experience and protect your starter. Would seem a lot more important. But, I’m not the coach. Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote
purple reign Posted 3 hours ago Author Report Posted 3 hours ago Duron was hurt in Angleton's 1st drive of the second half when it was 35-0. Jackson was hurt early in the 2nd quarter when it was 21-0. Duron was also the team's punter. Late in the second half Angleton sent in WR Cade Estrada to punt and although pressured got off a good punt. OlDawg 1 Quote

Wonder if Angleton throws out Jammer in some wildcat QB packages just to ensure he has the ball in his hands I don't think Angleton will stop throwing to him, even with Duron out. They may not pass as much. Angleton uses a lot of end arounds and Jammer has carried 11 times for 94 yds. I suspect they may use more this game. Jammer is 1 for 1 passing for 12 yds. Jammer is also a threat on kickoff return, both he and Ace Simple. Angleton's OC is excellent at coming up with concepts. He has been with the team since 2011 except for three years. He left in 2015 irc to take a head coaching job at Boling where his team went deep into the playoff both years with playing in the state championship game the second year. He must have decided after that. that head coaching wasn't for him and for one year took an OC position at George Ranch. The next year when Brittain became head coach and Berneathy left for Dobie that there's "No place like Angleton" and reclaimed his old OC job. OlDawg 1 Quote

I was guessing y’all would try to get Jammer the ball every way, and any way you could. Also, get Coach’s son the attempts thinking LP may sleep on him. Would make Pops proud if his son came up big in the big game so far when someone needs to step up. If LP doubles Jammer, he may have some good opportunities. Still think Neyland (sp?) is the key to the game for y’all. He’s a solid runner. Not sure y’all want to get into a scorefest now. This may be a low scoring game. Just me though. Quote
