I question any list that doesn’t include NOLA.

All seriousness Newsweek got that all wrong.  Memphis, Durham, St. Louis, Chicago, NOLA, Shreveport and Charlotte have killings almost every day. Beaumont is not even close.

It is sad that people spew bad pr on cities and towns that actually are thriving.

Is this based on killings per capita or just total annual?

Per capita

Below are the 30 U.S. cities with at least 100,000 residents that had the highest number of crimes against people, per 100,000, according to the latest FBI data report.

Brother I can name 9 cities in S.C. that make Beaumont look like the metropolis.

Myrtle Beach/ Horry County, 148,696 pop.

I stand corrected.  North Charleston, Columbia, and Charleston.

Sumter SC. just to name a few.

Sumter is home to Shaw Air Force Base and they also have an army base.
myrtle Beach is known in these parts as Murder Beach.  Lived there for  12 years and would not go back.  Tourist dump.

Don't know how accurate any of this, but an anecdotal note realted to the list.  I work in Houston and people from there ask me often why I live anywhere near Beaumont because of the danger....like it or not the reputation of Beaumont is poor.  When people from Houston feel their town is safer than yours that's not good.

We used to say the most dangerous towns had military bases because of the businesses they attract & other activities those businesses attract. I still think that’s true in many of these cases.

The towns want the revenue from the military bases. But, they don’t like the criminal elements they attract. Double-edged sword. Near every military base is typically the ‘seedier’ side of town.

That’s probably why Little Rock is on the list.

I didn't notice this before:  Little Rock is the 4th most dangerous and Chicago is 16th.  Unless Little Rock has gone down the tubes, that does make me scratch my head about being above Chicago.

Little Rock has been dangerous for decades. I recall watching a show in the 90s called 'Bangin in Little Rock' about the gang activity.
