Lady Cardinals Fall to Chicago State 57-49

Lamar has four-game winning streak snapped by Cougars

Dec. 1, 2007

Final Stats

CHICAGO - As snow fell outside the Jones Convocation Center the Lamar University women's basketball could not overcome a cold performance of their own inside, falling to the Chicago State Cougars 57-49.

The Lady Cardinals struggled to get their offense going from the opening tip, shooting just 21.4 percent from the field, going 6-28 in the opening 20 minutes. Despite Lamar's cold shooting the Cougars were only able to build a six point, 29-23 with a 46.2 percent shooting performance from the field.

In the second half the Lady Cardinals heated up from the field for the first 11 minutes of the half, but could not close out the Cougars down the stretch. Lamar was only able to score four points down the stretch, as CSU used a 16-4 run to finish out the final 8:58 of the ball game.

In the first 11 minutes of the second half LU outscored Chicago State 22-10, taking a six point lead with 8:58 to play. The Lady Cardinals capped their run with a Tamara Abalde jumper to go up 45-39, but they would make just one more field goal in the game.

The Lady Cards finished the game shooting just 25 percent from the filed, going 16-64 from the field, while Chicago State shot 38 percent from the field, going 19-50 from the field. Free throw shooting also played a major role in CSU's success, as they went 17-18 from the line, while LU was 11-14.

Abalde led the way for the Lady Cardinals with 17 point and nine rebounds, while Brittney Williams pulled down a season-high 10 board and scored eight points. Nikki Williams finished the game with nine points and Aida Bakhos finished with seven points and nine boards.

Jasmine Dixon led the way for the Cougars, scoring 25 points and grabbing 9 rebounds, while sinking 11 of her 12 free throws. She scored 16 points in the second half and was 10-10 from the free throw line in the second half. Alyssa Waldon chipped in with 12 points for CSU.

The Lady Cardinals will return to action on Tuesday, when they take on the Texas Southern Tigers at noon at the Montagne Center. Tuesday's game will be "Ladies Day Out", with all ladies receiving half price tickets to the game.

Yea, try listening to two games at once and your team is losing both. It sucked! In the women's game the Lady Cardinals played with heart as the were down big early in the game and fought hard to get back into it. The refs were terrible and Coach Tidwell got a tech called on him. However, if I were coaching they'd thrown me out of the game as our girls were getting hammered and the never called a foul. Coach Tidwell was just standing up for his players and I respect that.

Hopefully, Lamar athletics will have a better week coming up.
