This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up Sutterfield isn’t just the interim, he’s the new HFC. The Sun knows and cares more about what happens in Barber’s Hill than they do about what happens in Old Baytown and it shows. They told the players a week or so before it made the paper but I suspect it’s been in the works for a lot longer. I think Finn waited as late as he did just to make sure GCCISD didn’t have a chance to hire someone else in. Sutterfield was his right-hand man at REL the last few seasons and I think that’s why his DC who came with Finn to REL was trying to get the GCM job and did get the RSS job, (he already knew when those jobs popped up he wouldn’t be taking over for Finn at REL this summer). So now GCM’s HFC is former REL OC, RSS’ HFC is former REL DC, REL gave up a bunch of assistants to both programs to keep them afloat this season. Folks talk all the time about consolidation but at this point all 3 Baytown programs have a REL coaching staff so we’re already halfway there. Quote
gary-us-bonds Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago What Finn did at Lee was top shelf stuff relative to what he had to work with. Not just anyone is going to be able to come in and keep things afloat like he did. I'm expecting the worst. Goslin and Mr. Buddy Garrity 2 Quote
kirkwood29 Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Didn't Sutterfield work for years under Jerry Stewart? If so, I am quite certain he knows how to put together a solid program. From the sound of it, he inherited a program that was on the rise, no? Goslin 1 Quote

It’s Finn’s assistant HFC for the last few years taking the reins. Finn waited long enough before tendering his resignation that GCCISD had no time to post the position/hire a replacement. Baytown Sun reported it wrong, Sutterfield isn’t the Interim Coach, he’s the HFC/AD at REL going forward. It ain’t much of a ray of hope, but it’s something. Hell, at least REL was on the field as the freight train rolled by this morning getting their work in as usual ahead of this coming season. I hear GCM took the week off so their whole staff could go to the Coaches Convention. Really shows where their priorities lie. Quote

I’d say that it’s more like they’ve consistently beaten low expectations due to superior coaching and superior development of the kids they have walking their halls. Take a look at their last few seasons compared to the other 2 High Schools in GCCISD, both of which have far more resources and more District support. You’re right about Coach Sutterfield. Played for Coach Stewart at Dayton High, for ETBU and SFA in college, came back to Dayton to coach under Stewart before coming to REL under Finn. He looks like a solid dude and is Finn’s handpicked replacement. We’ll see if he can keep it going. I hope he can, I’d hate to see REL go the way GCM/RSS have. gary-us-bonds and Mr. Buddy Garrity 2 Quote
