I think the absence of #8  in those two big games made it closer than should have been. I know he was out in other games but it showed  against a good team.

Is he gonna be playing this week?

Didn't think so.

This is my annual "I Don't Really Want Either Team to Win" Bowl.... but I'm picking Los Tigres in a close one.

If Newton can get their passing game clicking, I agree they will be better than last year. My only worry is depth. I hope they can bring up some freshmen to help them in blowout games, if they have any.

Probably during District play they will move some people up and let them get much needed varsity experience.  I really don't see much of a threat during district play. CC may have a good team but they won't be able to play with Newton. And if they move a lot of kids up to play during second half of the game it will give the bread and butter some rest. No disrespect, but I just see District play as prep for the playoffs. It's a foregone conclusion, in my mind.

Nope, he’s not and Newton showed they didn’t need him to win. So never put everything into one player bc it takes a whole team to win.

Newton has a very good player on both sides of the ball out for all of pre-district. With that said, I see Newton being a little down, especially due to depth. I think Silsbee has a better chance at winning this game now. Though, I still have to go with Newton until proven otherwise. It just hurts not having a good player while playing good teams like Silsbee, WOS and Gilmer.

If you are gonna let the cat out the bag, then pull it all the way out. 3 contributing players are out,

If people do not think losing Barlow, Foster, Brown, and Walker will hurt Newton... they are delusional. Still going to be a very very good 3A team, but I will take Silsbee in this game by 3.

Thats not always the case. Good teams lose great talent all the time and them turn around and still have a perfect regular season. Newton may not be as good as last year but they are still dangerous. As the Great Ric Flair said....To be the Man,WOOOOOOOOOO!!!! You gotta beat the man. And Newton is the man until someone proves otherwise

I still believe Newton is the best 3A football team in Texas. I also believe Newton may very well lose two-three games this season between Silsbee, WOS and Gilmer. I do believe they will give all three teams hell and possibly win those games. Either way, Newton is very good and will benefit from the three mentioned teams. Go, Newton!

They were not a good team. They were a great team. 3A division 2 teams DO NOT lose 3 BIG TIME D1 athletes and just reload. Now, I still think Newton is one of the best 3a teams in the state. They might even win it again. That does not mean that they are still anywhere close to as good as last year. It is not possible.

They are one of the best 3A division 2 teams in Texas for sure. I agree with what you are saying

It may be possible! I think it is. Even if they lose all three of these games. Silsbee, WOS and Gilmer jave considerably better teams than they had last year. If Newton stays close or wins one are all three of these games, I think they may have a better team than last year. Newton will improve considerably as the year progresses.  But time will tell ,and make geniuses or dummies out of us.

    • He actually had a pretty solid year for a sophomore starting in that district. I can assure you, it hasn't hurt his recruiting at all and that will only improve with the move back to the Wack.
    • If Crumedy eventually has bigger aspirations than being in Jasper, every aspect of the program will be looked at when someone interviews him for any job. He knows that. The mindset needs to be that any time someone wears a Jasper uniform, that they're doing everything they possibly can to win. It matters.
    • This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up It's a poll but I could definitely see this as realistic.   From the article: Catholics in the United States have swung dramatically against President Biden in recent years, now boasting a significant statistical break towards his GOP challenger. Pew Research released on Apr. 30 a report exploring support for presidential candidates sorted by religious affiliation. The poll found that 55% of Catholics support or lean towards supporting former President Donald Trump in a head-to-head against Biden. Conversely, only 45% of Catholics support Biden in the same one-on-one pairing. The 12% margin of support in favor of Trump marks a significant shift from 2020, when he held an extremely narrow lead — 50% to 49%. Biden currently leads among Hispanic Catholics with a narrow 49%-47% split, but the close contest marks a major shift rightward for the demographic. In 2020, a similar poll from Pew Research found Hispanic Catholics preferred Biden to Trump with a staggering 67%-26% split.
    • You said a lot there. Truthfully, that is the root of the issue. Who cares what a kid thinks about how coaches are running a program? Kids play, coaches coach. For some reason, parents have this backward in a lot of places and its wreaking havoc.
