Leonard is a great guy!!!!!!!  Unfortunately he did not do a very good job!!!!

David McKey, Liz McQuitter, DeAnn Craft, Len Drake, etc, etc, etc. The coaches are stacking up.  What will it take to get some players at Lamar University? LU is long overdue. Has the Southland Conference improved that much over the years?

NEW: Drake out as LU women's coach

BEAUMONT - Leonard Drake resigned Tuesday as Lamar University's head women's basketball coach with four games remaining in the Lady Cardinals' regular season.

Drake, who was in his fifth season as head coach after moving from the men's program for the 2002-2003.

Lamar athletics director Billy Tubbs declined to comment on the move Tuesday afternoon.

In their latest outing, the Lady Cardinals defeated Northwestern State 69-58 Saturday night to move to 11-14 on the season and 6-6 in the Southland Conference.

Assistant coach Janet Eaton will direct the women's team on an interim basis. The Lady Cards' next game is Thursday night at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

In his five-plus seasons with the Lady Cardinals, the 52-year-old Drake, who is a graduate of Central Michigan, posted a 37-94 record, and his teams went 14-66 in conference play.

It seems strange that he resigned before the end of the season.

I heard on the radio this morning that it was because of health reasons.  If this is the case I hope he is ok.  Best wishes to him and his family.

That's what the release from Lamar says. He has been suffering from chest pains and he's family was concerned.

Now I'm not saying I believe that. It's a "little" unusual when the assistant coach is gone the same day the head coach resigns for health reasons.

C'mon guys! If you were the coach, at least you would have confided in your players if you were leaving for health reasons and at such a quick notice.

I would hate to see her leave OF, but I think she would do a good job at Lamar.  First thing, I think she would recruit more local talent, which we have alot of in this area.
