I'm not gettting into the 4 horseman thing but the kids that were being talked about are all very good players. Two of them have some low interest from DI schools and will probably get offers from FBS programs. 6'4" 265 DE/TE's that can run don't just grow on trees. The other kid is 6'4" 205lbs and was all-state QB and rushed for about 1800 yards last year. Won area in the 110 hurdles and was an all-region DB. That's probably where he'll play at the next level (FS/SS). Another one of them will probably run track at an FBS school if he keeps working. Ran a 10.66 100m last year at area so he's got some wheels. And the 4th kid has a good chance to be the leading rusher for HD this fall and is a very talented athlete.

So no offical offers at this point, but I do think three of the four will be competing in college athletics down the road. Could be four potentially if grades weren't an issue. Not bad for a 1A/2A school. Will those 4 alone win them a state title? Absolutely not.... but if they all stay healthy they will be a great foundation of a team that will put up some big numbers next year.

I think WS and San Augustine will both be very good teams next year......BUT Shelbyville is my dark horse. They have some horses and Burrell was a man-beast as a sophomore. I don't know if they win that district, but they have the talent to do so. And also enough talent to make a good playoff run.

They do have to be the early favorite in Region III. With that being said, I do think they are beatable for sure. Last year they had two VERY good running backs. Lynch and Pickens. They have two solid QB's that return (they actually both made 1st team all-district last year??) but neither of them are much of a running threat. They combined for about 400 yards rushing and 600 passing. Those two stud running backs made that offense click. They will still have very good athletes all over the field, but I think their offense will be more predictable with only one huge rushing threat. And if something happens to him..... (I just don't think they are as loaded as Mart was last year or this year)

Congrats to Coach Hodges and welcome back to HD. The cupboard isn't completely bare, and I think HD will be fine. Centerville will be tough to beat but I think HD will compete with Groveton, LL, and AS.

Lol several points to make on this.

One: Colleges "look at" anyone with an average-to-good GPA. It's academic recruiting. It's used to boost a school's academic standing. With that said, congratulations. You are one of millions of highschool students across America that receive letters from colleges every year. Lol

Two: I know for a fact that there are some very well-educated people on this site (that probably got "looked at by colleges for academics" as well). That includes myself. Don't get your feelings hurt and start taking shots at people because you're a little offended about something that was said. That, sir, is childish.

Three: NO collegiate ELA professor will pass a paper that uses over-extended sentences and has as many grammatical errors as your previous comment.

Whoever gets the job will have to run a similar offense to Finney's, otherwise the transition to a new system will be difficult. Best of luck to Coach Finney in his future endeavors and I hope whatever personal reasons that led to his stepping down get resolved......

Kid is fast yes no doubt...but he ran against an SA kid in 3 races. At area he beat him by like .03 seconds.  He then lost to him in both the 100m races at regionals.  At area i thought the kid got a great jump and ran a great race.  At regionals the SA kid had the better starts.  It just goes to show that in the 100m race, the difference in 1st and 5th or 6th is tenths of a second.

Adrian Anderson from HD won back to back state championships in the 100m in '06 and '07, with times of 10.84 and 10.78.....so a 10.66 is blazing.

I don't know anything about wind or hamstrings or what, but the Doucett kid at HD can fly. Maybe the pressure got to him at regionals or something because he didn't perform at a high level. His last three 100m times (Area final/area prelim/district final) were 10.96, 10.66, and 10.84. Then he ran an 11.50 regionals. Regardless of his unimpressive regional track performance, he will be one of the fastest kids in 2A next year on the football field.

I can vouch for HD9.  He was a very good football player.  I'm sure he doesn't care what you guys think, but I think it's probably time for the personal stuff to stop.  I'm sure there is something in the rules about personal attacks against other posters.  We are all adults here and can agree that the glory days have passed us all by!

lol, ok. I guess the TSWA and AP guys who picked me as all-state on offense as a junior and defense as a senior thought I was garbage too. And all the coaches who offered me full-ride scholarships probably thought that as well lol.

55 was a three year starter and all-district performer as well, so he must be total garbage.

Did you even play football? (not countin' Madden or NCAA Football on Playstation)

P.S. I know you're just pushin' our buttons, but I can promise you 100% that anyone you talked to that played against me wouldn't have that opinion.

Come on guys, there's not an correct answer here, because it works on many different levels, and accounts. Larger schools get the visual aide. Smaller schools get the word of mouth aide. However, there is an exception to the rule, when raw talent comes into play. Coaches can help, and do help quite often. Of the 10 most recent college scholarship playing young men out of Hardin, 8 received enormous help from the coaching staff. Numbers speak for themselves, but so does demographics. My baseball coach got me a lot of looks, but so did my skill. I, nor any member on my 29-2 baseball team had any scout ever approach us, throughout the year, but we had tons of phone conversations, and email discussions. It takes an valid effort from several individuals, throughout the process, typically when you are dealing with the smaller schools. However, smaller schools that are in more isolated and remote areas, have a difficult time in getting the University alum, boosters, and scouts to follow the young kids. The media source is becoming by far the most popular. I feel like that's why there are plenty of scrubs that get attention, that should never be looked at. Seeing in person, what an athlete can do is for me the most effective line of defense, in recruiting. Don't tell me about what you have done, or can do. "Show Me".

Anyone up for a new topic? I don't see this one getting anywhere fast.

A coach can get any player "looked at". If the player has no ability it will not matter. If a player has ability and gets no look it will be due to the fact that the coach did not give the go ahead to the recruiter. There are MANY players with the ability to play in college that get no look because the recruiter did not see them and they will not see them if the coach does not get the recruiter to "look at" them. This is much more of a factor in 1A/2A. There is much more to the process than talent. There is an endless list of players with the talent/ability to play in college that fail to get recruited. There is an equal sized list of players who get recruited that lack the ability of many of who do not get recruited. I don't think anyone said that a coach will get a scholarship for a player that cant play. I do suspect that the lineman referenced in this discussion with the offer from Lamar is a direct result of the coach's attempt to get him recruited. Unless, Lamar regularly has scouts at Hardin games.

I had a conversation with HD 55 over the weekend, and we talked about kids getting recognized at small schools. We agree that with recruiting services, youtube, hudl and all the other social media outlets available that if a kid can play, a kid will usually get noticed. That's not always the case though. I can assure you that a kid at a 2A school that goes deep in the playoffs will probably get more looks than a kid on a 2-8 4A team (unless that school is on a down year and known for producing next level talent). With that being said, a kid that is a dominant player at a good 4A school will get many more looks than a kid on a good 2A school. It's simple and I don't think anyone would disagree with this.

The point I made to HD 55 was a personal example of my recruiting when I was in school. After a very successful junior year, I had the opportunity to move to a larger school to get more recognition but I wanted to stay and battle with my schoolmates who'd I'd grown up with. I was an all-state selection as a senior on an HD team that went 2-8 and didn't sniff the playoffs. I got one DI offer (Air Force) and three DII offers along with a handful of DIII and NAIA schools. I signed my letter of intent with (Southwest) Texas State and was committed to the Bobcats. I quit the basketball team in hopes of jumping back on the radar of another DI team before national signing day. It didn't happen. Three days before national signing day I broke my foot in three places playing winter baseball. (which I was asked not to do by SWT coaching staff). I called my recruiter and informed him of the injury and that I'd been playing baseball. He passed it on and the next day they called and informed me that they were no longer extening an offer of full athletic scholarship. They told me that I was a gamble and a roll of the dice already because of the talent level they had seen me play against. I said hey, I'm 230lbs and run a 4.58 and make straight A's. If I was Emmitt Smith I don't think ya'll would be telling me this. He laughed and said "Don't kid yourself, you're not Emmitt Smith!" I was devastated and decided not to go to SWT. I called Coach Pierce at SFA in Nacogdoches and they had already given all their available scholarships away as well. They gave me their word that I'd be an invited walk-on and they had full rides freeing up in the spring and that I could get on scholarship then and that they'd do what they could to help me out with academic scholarships and aid to pay for my fall semester. (some academic scholarships are available for student athletes only). A torn ACL and poor work ethic and a bad attitude ended it all anyway. I never got right mentally to prepare myself for the playing on the next level after my scholarship offer was rescended.

The whole point of that long story, was that I still regret the fact at times that I did not move to a larger school to increase my visibility and opportunities. I played in two all-star games that let me know that I could compete with 4A/5A kids, but I didn't make the call, despite the fact that my parents supported it if I wanted to transfer. Maybe I would have got lost in the shuffle and never played at a high level. I may have been exposed for being too short or too slow or a ton of other things. Or I could have excelled against higher competition and secured DI offers. Who knows. I know if I could do it all over again, knowing that we went 2-8 and the mistakes I made afterwards, I would have transfered in a heartbeat. Granted that was a different time and place without as many opportunites for exposure as kids have today, but I promise that college coaches think about level of competition when viewing game film. If the big kid from Hardin is dominating a 5'9" 180lb defensive end from Huntington, that's not quite as impressive as dominating a 6'3" 245lb defensive end from North Shore. Sometimes that's the difference between getting a ride to Lamar as opposed to LSU, and sometimes it's the difference between getting a ride from Lamar or no ride at all.

I'm a die hard Hull-Daisetta Bobcat. My son is not even 2 years old, so who knows if he'll even play football. I will support him in whatever direction he chooses to go. But if he is a talented prospect and appears to have next level talent, by his sophomore year he will be playing for a large school that gets the best out of its kids and sends kids to the next level regularly. Now if he's not there yet or not going to get there, then he can go to school wherever he's grown up and comfortable with. Nothing like the small school experience and maybe going to an HD is his best chance of being on the field and getting to play. If that's the case, he'll be at HD or Hardin, or Warren or the likes, loving high school football like most of us on here have.
