When are they gonna get off the gas pedal? Even a running clock the whole second half isn’t gonna be pretty.

BJ scored 4 TDs. 3 rushing and a long run after the catch TD reception. He was a man among boys tonight. Terrick had one rushing TD and ran tough between the tackles all night. Both were lights out on defense too. HD is legit this year.

I think Grapeland stays up with the northern 2A DII schools (Teneha, Mount Enterprise etc.). Iola makes more sense to me in this district and then Grapeland take Timpson's spot in the other one. (Timpson turned in 158 and will be the smallest school in 2A DI). Either way, Iola or Grapeland are long drives for Sabine Pass. Iola is 198 miles and Grapeland 179. HD to Iola is 121 and HD to Grapeland is 132. Then again if Maud stays in the northern district, it'd be a 164 miles from Grapeland. I guess any way you go there will be 2 or 3 schools that will be 2.5-3 hour drives for district games.

HDBobcats9 got a reaction from Gator25 in Colmesneil at Hull-Daisetta
I'm one of the HD folks who realize that our time has passed on producing quality athletes and competitive playoff teams. Other than a small handful of people in their 30-40's, most people that reside in Hull, Daisetta, and Raywood are older folks who've owned their property for decades and have grandchildren playing somewhere.......somewhere other than HD. This year's Bobcat team is unfortunately devoid of talent and numbers. Not only do they have a bunch of average kids athletically, they have ZERO depth. Freshmen and sophomores playing every snap that should be on a 2A JV team. Playing SP, Colmesneil and Burkeville gives them the opportunity to play hard and have a chance to come out with a win. That all ends after this week and I just hope that these 14 and 15 year olds don't get seriously hurt playing against the West Sabine's, Centerville's, and Lovelady's on the schedule (not to mention Groveton and Anderson-Shiro who will also thoroughly outmatch the Bobcats). One thing I will say about these kids is that they play hard. It's easy to quit and not make an effort. Many of the kids in the school have chosen not to play, whether that's from disliking a pretty hard-nosed head coach, lack of support from family members, or just no sense of school and community pride and tradition. Maybe some of the kids are smart enough to see the writing on the wall that they don't want to be part of a losing team (cop-outs). There are a couple kids on the team with excellent talent. I believe Rayon and Robinett would find their way on the field for any 3A or 4A school in the area. There's a few others that are solid 2A starters who can make a difference. There's just not enough of them.  Most people with kids have moved to Beaumont, Baytown, Dayton, HJ or you name it. The only move-ins that HD gets are kids from broken homes who move in with their grandparents and usually those kids don't have the best sense of discipline, work-ethic, or respect that it takes to be a productive football player. It's not a knock on them, as life is tough on a kid who bounces around from one home to the next. The only other move-ins are people trying to find a dirt cheap place to stay. Rent a two bedroom apartment in Channelview for $950 a month, or rent a 3 bedroom wood-frame house in Daisetta for $575? Once again, from an economic standpoint, kids from low income homes are many times in the same boat as the kids from broken homes who've bounced around. Not knowing what school pride is is near the bottom of the list on why they don't contribute. Parents who may not push their kids to achieve academic excellence usually don't push their kids to compete in athletics, to not quit or give up on things, or to have respect and discipline. That's not counting the misfortunes of some of those kids who have to work in the evenings after school just help pay the bills and put food on the table at their homes.
As far as the game tonight, I fully expect HD to compete and be in the game, if not pull out the win. I said it during the summer that this is the worst Hull-Dasietta team that's ever taken the field. With that being said, HD's worst is better than about 50% of Colmesneil's teams of all-time. So if they are down, and not looking like an above average Bulldog squad, then HD can and will win. You won't hear me ever barking about HD's dominance and future prospects and chance to go deep in the playoffs. I just don't ever see it happening again due to the state of the community as afore mentioned. I will always support the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats and I'll always be proud of where I'm from. All this is just my opinion, so I'd love nothing more than these kids to go out and prove me wrong this season and for many more to come. Go Bobcats!!

HDBobcats9 got a reaction from Mr. Buddy Garrity in Some amazing numbers on the Mart Panthers....
Of course bored at work and I started thinking about traditional power football programs in the state of Texas. Mart is one of the few programs in the state (if not the only one) who's had sustained success throughout the history of the program.

Mart had undefeated championship teams in the 20's (1929), the 40's (1946), the 50's (1957), and the 60's (1969). The Panthers missed out in the 1930's with two undefeated teams who lost in the regional championship games (before small schools could go to state). (1936 and 1937). Several other playoff teams were mixed in through the decades along with these championship teams for Mart.

The 1970's weren't the best decade for the Panthers, but they did manage a run to the state semi-finals in 1976 before being beat by eventual state champs, the Barbers Hill Eagles.

Mart's success continued into the '80s as the Panthers had 5 seasons of 10 wins or more, including a trip to the state championship game in 1986, falling in the final to Shiner. The Panthers only had one season in the 1980's below .500.

The 1990's is when the Mart program really went to another level. Mart once again enjoyed multiple 10 win seasons, including three trips to the regional finals ('90, '91, and '96). The Panthers would end the decade with a bang going 13-1 in 1998, losing by 2 points to Brookshire Royal in the state semifinals. The Panthers would redeem themselves the following season, by going 15-0 and capturing the state championship in 1999. This team was led by future NFL players Quan Cosby (and brother Quincy) as well as John Garrett.

The Panthers didn't let Y2K affect their success, as the Cosby boys were back at it again in 2000, going 15-1 for the season, losing a heart breaking state championship game to the North Texas legendary powerhouse, the Celina Bobcats. The success hasn't stopped there, and I'll share a little more in depth look at the Panthers over the past 10 years.

    2004 - Regional Semi-Finalists
    2005 - Regional Semi-Finalists
    2006 - State Champions
    2007 - Bi-District qualifiers (10-1)
    2008 - State Finalist
    2009 - Regional Finalists
    2010 - State Champions
    2011 - State Semi-Finalists
    2012 - State Finalist
    2013 - State Semi-Finalists
    2014 - ??? (Currently 10-0)

Over this 10 year span, the Panthers have compiled a record of 114 wins and 26 losses. (not counting 2014). There's probably a couple  schools out there that can claim to have only lost 26 games in 10 years (2.5 losses per year) but how many can say they've average 11.5 wins per season, and played exactly 14 games on average per season. (It could be even higher as they received 1st round bye's in 4 of the 10 years).

Of Mart's 18 regular season losses over the past 10 seasons, they have lost 12 of those games by 6 points or less. Eight of the 18 losses have to been to central Texas powers Rogers and Goldthwaite.

Mart has a playoff record of 32-8 over the past 10 seasons. When you average over 3 playoff wins per season for that length of time, that's saying something.

The last tid-bit of information is Mart's district record. The Panthers have compiled a district record of 59 wins and 2 losses since 2004. They lost to Teague in 2004 (34-33) and last lost a district game to Lovelady in 2009 (35-21) (LL went 12-1 that season losing in regional semi's to state champ Cayuga).

Mart is playing in Region II this season, so I'm interested to see how things will turn out. The last time the Panthers went undefeated in the regular season (2007), they were upset in the first round of the playoffs.

Good luck to the Mart Panthers and the rest of the teams in this year's playoffs!!

Honestly, it depends on which Groveton teams shows up. They are the most Jeckyl and Hyde team I've seen all year. The team that showed up against HD and Anderson Shiro is a dangerous team. The team that played WH last week, and several other games this year, couldn't hang within 5 TD's of West Sabine. I really don't know why they are so inconsistent but Odom and James in the backfield are two very good backs.

If Groveton's A-Team shows up, I promise they'll beat Carlisle.

Actually, it willl go to positive points before a coin flip.  If HD does beat Lovelady and Groveton falls to West Hardin, all three teams will have beaten each other.  Then it goes to positive points, or the point spreads in the 3 games.  As it currently stands, Groveton is at +8 (more than 18 point win over HD and 10 point loss to Lovelady), Lovelady is at +10 (10 point win over Groveton) and HD is at -18 (more than 18 point loss to Groveton).  Even, if HD beats Lovelady by more than 18, the best HD will end up in the positive points is 0.  Which means Groveton gets the final spot.

Remember, only 3 schools from each district advance in 2A.

HDBobcats9 got a reaction from H-D BOBCAT 55 in District 12-2A DI Playoff Scenarios
District 12 is a mess now with Groveton's win over AS. Mathematically five of the six teams are still alive. Here's how I see it:

    Current Standings:
    Centerville 4-0
    Anderson-Shiro 3-1
    Lovelady 2-2
    Hull-Daisetta 1-3
    West Hardin 0-4

Scenario #1: All favorites for the week win. CV over AS, LL over HD, GV over WH =

    1. CV
    2. LL
    3. Groveton

3-way tie for second. Tie breaker is winnings points vs three. LL +10, Groveton +9, AS +1. AS is out.

Scenario #2. AS beats Centerville, LL beats HD, Groveton/WH either outcome

    1. AS
    2. CV
    3. LL

AS would be 4-1 but beat CV heads up for #1 seed. CV at 4-1 gets 2nd. LL gets 3rd as they beat Groveton head to head.

    Scenario #3. CV beats AS, HD beats LL, Groveton beats WH;

    1. CV
    2. Groveton
    3. AS

CV undefeated, GV and AS at 3-2 tie for 2nd with AS winning the head to head.

Scenario #4, CV/AS either way, LL beats HD, WH beats Groveton.

    1. CV/AS winner
    2. AS/CV loser
    3. Lovelady

District championship decided by winner of AS vs CV. Groveton loss to WH puts them at 2-3, LL gets in at 3-2

Scenario #5 (my favorite). CV vs AS (either way), HD beats LL, WH beats Groveton

    1. CV/AS winner
    2. CV/AS loser
    3. Lovelady, Groveton, HD (tie breaker)

Groveton had a large margin win vs. HD, but it's capped on the tie breaker. If HD wins by 19 or more then a second tie breaker is used. If HD wins by less than the cap margin, then Groveton is in, HD and LL are out.

Needless to say, the last week of district play in 12-2AI will be interesting!! Anderson Shiro wins, they're district champs. If they lose, they miss the playoffs!!! Lovelady and Groveton can both go from possible #2 seed, to out. HD has the slimmest of slim margins to get in. With three or four starters coming back they can definitely help Groveton and AS get in.

HDBobcats9 got a reaction from Mr. Buddy Garrity in In addition to Cosby suspension, more bad news for Mart
Mart senior all state linebacker  Collin Nail is out for the season after suffering a broken heel in practice. Kid just got back from missing three games due to an emergency appendectomy and this will end his high school career. Nail finished this season with 79 tackles (in only 5 games) and finishes his four year career at Mart with an amazing 616 tackles. Hate it for that kid  because he's a great leader and a heck of a player. He's the son of head coach Rusty Nail and one bad hombre! Good luck and speedy recovery to a young man that can play at the next level.

HJ2012, I would suspect that Coach Nail had preset definitions for "Football" punishment for off field discipline issues as most coaches do. It's called holding your players to a higher standard and teaching them something about accountability. How many of us had to run our butts off after practice for misconduct in school that included detention of some sorts.
In light of all the BS I see in the news from these high profile College players and NFL knuckleheads, I think it's refreshing to see.

Coach Nail is a heck of a coach and runs a tight ship. I don't think it's his  policy that if you miss one practice, then you can't play. I think the issue that caused the detention and subsequent missed  practice led Coach Nail to suspending him for the game or part of the game. In turn when finding this out, Cosby chose to walk out of practice (the day before detention related missed practice). All speculation but I don't think that Coach Nail is in the wrong in anyway and should be applauded for sticking to his guns even with the star player.
