I remember in 1991 and 1992, Lee was really bad.
Obviously the demographic has changed a lot for that side of town.  But, I have to believe that GCM, at least, is dealing with a demographic relatively close to what Lee was dealing with in 1995 and 1997 when they were one of the 15-20 best 5a teams in the state likely.

45% Hispanic
30% White
20% African-American
45% economically disadvantaged
Relative to the 2200 students Lee probably had, but in the largest division in the state at that time.
I don't see why GCM can't get enough together to make it competitive.
Let's look at Crosby
1488 students
18% African-American
30% Hispanic
48% White
36% economically disadvantaged
 
I keep asking the question,  but where did all of the Baytown athletes go?  You'd probably have to combine Sterling and GCM to give Crosby a run for their money.  That'd be 4,000 students to 1,400 to make it a close game.

no I do not. That starts you down a very slippery slope. I'm quite sure Arthur Stillwell for whom port Arthur was named was not a great guy by today's standards.we would have to rename the whole city.
Washington, Lincoln, mlk, jfk all had very bad qualities by todays higher PC standards.

I would hate for Robert e lee high school in Baytown to have to change its name.
maybe that would free up my Friday nights though. Not sure I would still have that same connection with a Baytown south generic high school.

I am talking specifically about the name Robert E Lee because of who it was named after.  They head to change the name of the Houston Westbury Rebels.  Lee had to stop playing Dixie, as did Ole Miss.  Ole Miss got rid of their mascot, though they are still called the Rebels.  I don't think it will be much longer before they are required to rename the school after a less controversial figure.

Ridge point is not a one or two player program. They are on their way to being 6a and will be taking the same track as manvel just took. Ridge point will be a force until they outgrow 5a.

I believe the running back for alone macarrhur was Damien vallery. Very upright runner add you mentioned but also good straight line speed.

West brook got beat by eisenhower in the first round of the playoffs one year as the number one team in the state. Before anyone knew who eisenhower even was back then.

A 6th junior high has to be in the works soon huh?  Something out north of I-10?  Then we could give BJS and HMJ to Lee, CBJ and Gentry to Sterling and Highlands and the 6th one to GCM.

Lee has three fumbles at least.  Not sure about Vidor.
One of the Lee fumbles was returned 49 yards for one of the td's.

Looking for a Baytown team to matter again.  Pile all of the athletes into one magnet school if you have to like Houston does.

Id rather they be a good team with integrity than an exceptional team with a bunch of knucklehead criminals.

I think they can be an exceptional team and have integrity, just making a point though.

Make no mistake about it, Sumlin and Strong are polar opposites on this matter.  You can decide for yourself which is right, but to say somehow that Sumlin has done something similar to what Strong is doing now at any point in time in his tenure in College Station? That's a negative.

Guess we will see. The TC offense was not very impressive to me. Just hand it to foreman or chuck it up to the other foreman.

Milesplit has West Book currently ranked 15th in the region.  They have some really good relay times, but they are, unfortunately, in the greatest state in the nation for track.  Their 800 relay is ranked 32nd in the nation, but that is only good for about 26th in the state.  Out of those 26 ahead of them, I would guess 15 of them are 5A schools.
 
If the school resided in any other state outside of Florida and Texas, West Brook would probably roll to a state title in track this year.  Going to be a tough row to hoe just to get out of the region as it stands.
