  1. where are you at kelly basketball? my last question should be right up your alley. curious to see your response.
  2. from what i've been told by some parents, kelly does offer hardships, etc. for tuition. how did the brown bros. play there for a couple years? i know for a fact that they didn't pay tuition out of their own pockets. also, i'm sure kelly doesn't check where the money comes from when someone pays their tuition. there are plenty of area business men that have an interest in the sports programs at kelly that would be more than willing to help out....just sayin.
  3. what was there to prepare for on wos part. they knew vidor was gonna run the ball every time and they did. they just got outphysicalled. yeah...i made that up.
  4. vidor hasn't started practice yet. they have some good athletes, but they kinda let all the kids play to see who rises to the top. they don't seem to be super serious about wins and losses. they want to win and all, but are mainly developing and evaluating. the offense they run is pretty complicated and hard for the younger ones to grasp, but it should pay off in the future. they look kinda clumsy at the 7th grade level, but look much better in 8th from past experiences.
  5. pop "dumb and dumber" in the dvd player and grab a mirror. that would be an even matchup. i would like to go to the scrimmage you mentioned, but i can't find sislbee on the map.
  6. i haven't met mr. loer personally, but i heard he was a nice guy....nice font though.
  7. isnt scoring on a fumble recovery still part of the game of football????? : yes it is, but it doesn't count in scrimmages. ;D i'm gonna go out on a limb and say the scrimmage should be pretty even if vidor keeps the ball off the turf. i just hope both teams come thru it with minimal injuries. it should be a pretty physical scrimmage. i think the coaches for both teams know they're in for a tough scrimmage.
  8. like i said in a previous quote, i think that is one of the most outstanding traits that the team had to have. when these kids are playing under such pressure and they stay together instead of pointing fingers....that is spectacular at their age. they maintained their cool through the ups AND the downs. i've coached kids for quite a few years and even the best kids lose it at times, but this team really seemed to stick together. the better kids at this age are usually some of the first ones to show anger, etc when the going gets tough because they care more (or think they do) than the others. they really seemed like some poised kids on the field. i'm sure they're regular goofballs off the field like all boys at that age. again....congrats to bcll.
  9. actually cardone came in in the 3rd. he pitched 3 2/3 innings. the only reason pitch count didn't come into play was that he threw mostly strikes. i don't think taking pitches or not taking pitches would have mattered much. the kid had one of those games where everything he threw did what he wanted it to. it looked like they were having a hard time picking the ball up with his long body and squatty (for a tall kid) pithing motion. the bottom line is, of course, that what this team did was an incredible accomplishment. their composure was great. there aren't a lot of kids....yes kids....that could keep it together like they did through the ups and downs they went through.
  10. I don't think the question was a bad one, or an accusatory one, silly. Earlier in the thread someone had mentioned that some of the kids had gotten waivers, but since there were no leagues in Orange proper, there was no need for waivers. BCLL is hnd has always been a class organization, with serious parent volunteer participation, which is what makes a great league. The parent volunteer participation in both TCLL and WESCO had dwindled dramatically, and for TCLL, hurricane Rita was the first nail, and hurricane Ike was the final nail in it's coffin. Having said that, my congratulations goes out to the entire BCLL organization, and it's 11-12 yo All Stars in particular. Knowing what it takes to field, coach, and prepare the team for the All Star tournament, I give props to the parent volunteers that went all out for their kids, this even as many were not in their homes because of Ike. It was an effort of champions, both on the field, and off... twin county folded after rita. everything north of i-10 in their boundary went to vidor ll and everything south went to bcll. wesco has been gone for a long time. bcll definitely has a lot of parent participation. that is the number one sign of a good strong league. running a quality league takes a lot of work and dedication. my hats off to bcll....awesome job.
  11. the kid that was 6'2" and 205 lbs. looked like he could play for lamar. unbelievable a kid could be that big at that age and be that athletic. it seems like every year there is a team with 2,3, or 4 six footers.
  12. awesome news....for lamar, vidor, and especially trae. it's great that gilligan is keeping some of the local talent (really good talent) in the area. he can really turn out some awesome pitchers. kids are realizing that they can make it to the majors right here at home.
  13. what's the status on him pitching wise? i didn't hear if he had surgery or just rehabbed. he's definitely an asset whether it be pitching or playing the field. congrats either way...can't wait for the season to start. is he still playing football? he's a pretty good db.
  14. i know there were quite a few sophmores on the varsity team last year. i know some of the bigger lineman were. i know the 9th and jv last year had problems on the line because of that.
  15. On the surface your correct. I can tell you this, the coaching staff are just as fired up about the underclass men as they are about the seniors. From what they say, "if everything works out, next years team will be better than this year". I keep hearing about the freshman group this year, they are bigger, makes you think about Vidor teams of the 70's and 80's. They just keep coming. the freshman group has a pretty good couple running backs too from what i hear.
  16. yeah, but i like the one about the "atheletes" better. ;D i bet that's already been fixed. someone's getting some major ribbing on that one.
  17. i think it means they won. vidor's offense is built to wear out the other team's defense over the course of the game. they play ball control grind it out on the ground football. the fourth qtr is usually when they try to take control of the game. sounds like the game went about as planned. you must also give some credit to kelly. they had a pretty good team last year and probably will this year too.
  18. the answer is yes...playing football games prepares you to play football games. two of those games were set last year. they are scrimmaging wos soon. your team's reputation dictates which teams will or won't schedule a game with you, and most are reciprocating agreements. you can't force a team to play you.
  19. the green mask would definitely set it off, but they still look phat.
  20. You should have watched a few games before matthews got here. at least they are competitive and have the ability to win any and all games. i look for them to do even better this year. This we agree upon. I am sure Mathews has his flaws as a coach, but he has stepped it up at Vidor. Which says alot about how bad the program was since they are still considered a bottom tier team in the district (current season excluded). i don't agree with the bottom tier team in district quote. vidor is definitely in the middle of the pack working their way up. vidor's offense isn't an easy offense to perfect. the kids coming up now are kids that have been learning this system since 7th grade. when mathews first came to vidor, there was a struggle to shift offensive strategies and it showed. the kids that have been in this scheme for 4 or 5 years are going to show up this year and many years to come. if vidor isn't in the playoffs this year, i will be surprised.
  21. i thought they scrimmage wos this year. i'm also a little confused about the getting their tail handed to them part. i thought they barely missed out on the playoffs. you should have watched a few games before matthews got here. at least they are competitive and have the ability to win any and all games. i look for them to do even better this year. they have way more depth than in years past and the young kids coming up are stronger, faster, and dedicated.
  22. definitely putting on the cold sweat soaked jock, shorts, shirt and gear. then, trying to choke down salt tablets...oops i'm showin my age. i'm not sure how we didn't kill any of us kids.
  23. here's to the b.c. 12's. good luck tonight. i hope they have enough pitching left. i'm surprised at the b.c. juniors bowing out...they had an awesome team. i can attest to that personally...nothing to hang their heads about. they had a great run. i wish i could be there to see the game tonight. bring it home.
  24. like i said...the district admin has a field at b.c. named after him. he was pres of b.c. for many yrs. district 32 has been run by b.c. for years. they are hosting 3 sectional tournaments. i was at a senior district all star game where they tried to add a player after the first game had already been played. they were worried that they'd get beat. the other team put up enough stink to get them to back down. they lost the next two games and were eliminated. they don't like to lose and do anything and everything in or out of the book to get it accomplished. that's probably why the decision was made to do a double header if this is true.
