  1. I recently posted, with a link, that Beaumont was in the 99th percentile for crime. Some did not like it but the truth is the truth. Beaumont, PA and Orange are all dangerous areas, at least relative to other surrounding areas. This is an uphill battle for Lamar to fight.
  2. I could not believe Lamar, with very weak sports, even tried to move. Anyone with any financial sense could easily see Lamar would incur a ton of costs associated with all the travel out to the west and regret it. Both Lamar Football and Lamar Basketball did not win a single game. Not a single game. Think about that.
  3. Thats spot on. Everyone (my Tark friend included) says EC collects Beaumont kids who play the skill positions, and I know Tark never gets anything. Take away the Beaumont imports and EC does not win their district. In fact, they didn't win last year, I think Woodville did. EC was 8-4, 2nd place, and went out after the first round. Thats hardly anything to brag about especially coming from one of the weakest districts in the state. With 4A playoff team Orangefield dropping down, Anahuac growing, and Woodville apparently strong (for this area), there is no need to "topple" EC. EC could end up the 3rd place team in a weak district.
  4. BH 1 essentially locked Crosby 2 essentially locked PNG 3 Ned 4 (GP still alive, still to face Ned & PNG)
  5. No point, just messing around. I didn't even notice the year. The last few posts were current.
  6. yessir! Cant wait until we btho Kansas. KU lost in 1st round to a 15 seed, Kansas National Champs!
  7. Didn't age well. Rock, Chalk, JayHawk! LOL
  8. I speak and comment but I don't want to argue. IMO, this whole long running debate of "is it the coach, or the facilities, or the talent, or the size, or recruiting, or whatever else can be neatly summed up by this: It's a combination of ALL the above. They are ALL factors. If people could really understand that, this whole debate would end once and for all.
  9. If and only if his competition would NEVER change, which is absolutely impossible because talent fluctuates in every opponents school every year, due to graduations, injuries, etc. So, rethink that statement.
  10. All I am saying is, outside of this area, no one, and I mean no one is worried about or cares a flip about this district. Period. Lorena, Franklin, Jim Ned, Canadian, Mount Vernon, Brock, and a some others are the "good" teams over the last 10 (not 50) years. Do you really think anyone locally fits in that group? Do you think any of those are remotely worried about this local district? Now 3A Div II Newton, for example, is a whole different story. Everyone statewide knows and cares about them in Div II, because they are a legit threat to get to or win State, most every year. No one, and I mean no one in this 3A Div I district is. No one is even close. Not even by a mile. I didn't mean to step on your toes or hurt your feelings. I see you are a fan and you are taking it personal. Not my intent! Again its about perspective. If you want to chest thump because they beat Hardin by 50 or Tark by 60 or whatever, celebrate it! Tallest midget in the room.
  11. I guess it depends on your perspective. If one decent run in one year, then "playing tight" in another year is all you can hang on to, yeah I guess that is "good" for a year? You didn't mention all the other early exits, I see though. Step back from this local area and think and see how this district is perceived Statewide. Honestly its not even on anyone else's radar. But yeah, if you want to cheer on the tallest midget in the room (or 3A district), please do so.
  12. Huge game last night. BH, 7-0 now pretty much locks up the District Championship. Crosby, 5-2, pretty much locked in at #2. Ned and PNG likely 3rd & 4th with GP still barely alive. BU and PAM out. Defending State Champ BH stumbled some earlier in the season but is rounding into form!
  13. Art Briles coached two years at Mount Vernon HIGH SCHOOL, went 20-6 there, and very, very nearly beat State Champ Jim Ned. Briles is often mentioned here in relation to LOCAL high school openings, see above. I guess the rules are just enforced or ignored arbitrarily as we go along, right?
  14. "Splash hire" is profanity words at BH, don't do it Huffman! LOL!
  15. Well, look what outside sources say: Is Beaumont, TX a safe place to live? According to CrimeGrade.org, Beaumont is listed in the 1st percentile for safety and crime. This rating means that 99% of cities nationwide are safer than Beaumont. The city’s overall crime score is an F. The city score is a composite of an “F” grade for violent crime and property crime and a “D-” for miscellaneous crime. Looking at these ratings and scores, Beaumont appears to be a very dangerous city. [Hidden Content]
  16. "Tallest Midget" That's great, made my day, LOL!
  17. I dunno about their soccer, but good in Football? They along with the rest of the 3A's here vaporize quickly in the playoffs. That's why I said its not as impossible as it seems that Tark "could" go .500 in the local district. Not a prediction, just a possibility. Its a real low bar to step over. No matter what the turf is this district goes down quick.
  18. Well you know how it goes, some communities can be bashed, others cannot. Barbers Hill has had so much garbage spewed at it, its ridiculous. Haters gonna hate. In a similar vein, coaches are not supposed to be bashed here, per the site rules, but Art Briles is routinely beaten to a bloody pulp and no intervention happens. See, IT ALL DEPENDS.
  19. Excellent post above, PrairieMan.
  20. It won't grow nearly as fast as Cleveland. Anything on 59 is blowing up, but Tark is 9-10 miles away in the woods. The district is a good one, and people are slowly moving there getting away from the larger schools, but it is slow. There is lots of wooded, rural acreage, but its not ready to quickly build on. Utilities are not readily available in many places. Now 10-15 years later it might be a different story but not yet. I think the UIL cutoff is 544 and Tark turned in 519.
  21. No, I was referencing a type of coach. I'll leave it at that too. Just trying to make a suggestion, not looking to argue, that's all. Good luck Tark.
  22. What should they do then? Just give up and shut the program down? In that district not every team has 15 great athletes, BTW. Think about that. Tark could notch some wins if things come together.
  23. I am not from Tarkington. I live in Mont Belvieu. As I said above, I have some friends there who has kids. He has a son that did not play. What I see is a lack of interest, thats why I say get em' off the deer lease and into pads. You are right, it will take their community to light a fire under their sons. A Rah-Rah coach that's committed to stay and MOTIVATES is the first step. Think the late Jeff Walker at Liberty Hill. He had those LH kids ready to run through a brick wall for him at a moments notice. I am not saying Tark will win state of course. I do think they could be better than 0.500 and win a playoff game or two sometimes. Again, that weak district they have should be easy to win in with any real improvement from Tark.
  24. Tark needs a coach like Vidor's Matthews. Someone who can win without a ton of athleticism, who can motivate the kids, and get larger numbers to get excited and come out. Its not as hopeless as it might seem. They were winning some a few years ago. Get the right coach + newly motivated kids and things will turn around. Get them off the deer lease and into helmets and pads! Kill Bambi later!
  25. [Hidden Content] Thank God it was an overnight event, zero injuries.
