jimmyw reacted to WOSgrad in Jasper is open, then it isn't, then it is again, then it isn't again (for now)
Okay, so he uses colorful language?  Well, guess what, that merely makes him a chip off of the old block as his dad, the late Curtis Barbay who many (including me) consider a Texas coaching legend, did the same.  Further, as I am sure many can attest to, the Barbays don't hold the patent nor the copyright on such language.  In fact, in most cases, the ability and willingness to use such language is not a character flaw among coaches, but a requirement.
The more "justifications" that come out of Jasper ISD, the more they appear to be not only incompetent, but untrustworthy.  It is a new trend that newly appointed Superintendents wish to bring in "their guys."  While it makes little sense to do so, it happens.  And if that is what Dr. Gerald Hudson was doing, which it appears as early as Friday that is what he was doing, then he should have manned up and stated so.  But he did the opposite, going on KJAS in Jasper and talking to The Enterprise yesterday denying that any decision on Coach Barbay's employment had been made, chalking up the word that got out on Friday as social media rumor gone wild.  Yet less than 12 hours transpired when he fired off a text message to the board president that Coach Barbay was going to be terminated, not even bothering to issue a press release as is customary and leaving it to the Jasper ISD board president who he texted to disclose the termination, reassignment or whatever you wish to call it.
Quite simply, if you take a look at the twitter activity and articles of David Thompson at the Beaumont Enterprise, as well as the twitter activity, broadcasts and articles at KJAS, you can come to only one reasonable conclusion.  That conclusion is that on Monday morning, Dr. Gerald Hudson, lied to the broadcasters at KJAS, lied to David Thompson at the Beaumont Enterprise, quite possibly lied to members of the Jasper ISD Board of Trustees, and, in doing so, lied to residents of the Jasper ISD.  Quite frankly, this breach of trust, regardless of the subject area, is unacceptable and Dr. Hudson should give serious consideration as whether it is proper for him to remain as superintendent.   But then again, that requires a conscience and Dr. Hudson's recent actions indicate that he may be severely lacking in that area.

Southeast Texas schools have an abundance of very good atheletes , the difference at WOS is the program that has been in place for many years , basic skills , blocking , tackling . Discipline is essential and Cornell requires it. Conditioning is a key , you will very rarely see a mustang with a cramp or bent over with his hands on his knees trying to get some air .  We've played against some great  atheletes over the years , epic battles with Jasper come to mind , but they could not go 4 quarters at the mustang pace. Last and maybe most important - consistency in very good coaching . But even that suffered at WOS during some periods , we had the teams , but our play selection was not what was required to win 3 or 4 rounds deep.  The perfect storm has been brewing the last several years .
But we will lose some of those good coaches, we always have, many went on the be very successful , Barry Norton at Texas high comes to mind. Several state championships , I think maybe he took that mustang program with him.
I for one would love to see SE Texas teams become state power houses , just takes disciplined hard work.

Agree, the worst thing Newton could do would be to go into this game over-confident, thinking they have this game won before the coin toss.  With each week, nothing matters about the past record.  Every team is good, or they wouldn't be here. Anything can and will happen on any given Friday night in Texas high school football.  Newton needs to stay humble, or Arp will walk away with the "W."

If Newton's O-line and defensive front 7 continue to play at the level they have been playing, they should be should be hard to beat. I really think this O-line should start getting some credit.

Injury bug must have bit them, I know they lost a lot of talent last year. Remember they beat a descent Jefferson team. Injuries has so much to do with small schools, sometimes there is a pretty big step down from first teamers and replacements. anyway Newton needs to start playing with a purpose because anyone can get in quicksand. Don't think  we will but I have seen several Eagle teams lose to descent teams that we should of won, just some bad breaks at wrong time. I just don't want us to get over-confident.JMO

Oxbridge Academy edges Trinity Christian Academy for No. 1 spot.
    By Kevin Askeland | MaxPreps.com

"For three straight years, Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, Fla.) has been the small school powerhouse in the nation, but this year another Florida small school is making a run at the top.

Oxbridge Academy (West Palm Beach, Fla.) has moved into the top spot after starting the season at No. 2. Oxbridge Academy has just one loss on its schedule and that was to national power IMG Academy. Among the big wins for Oxbridge Academy include victories over Carol City (Miami), Flanagan (Pembroke Pines) and American Heritage (Delray Beach).

Trinity Christian Academy, which comes in at No. 2, has an uncharacteristic three losses on its schedule, falling to IMG Academy, Cocoa and Lincoln (Tallahassee).

Maryville (Mo.) is 10-0 and comes in at No. 3 while another Florida team, Madison County, is No. 4. Perennial Ohio small school state champion Marion Local (Maria Stein, Ohio) comes in at No. 5.

Small schools are those schools that belong to state enrollment divisions with schools that generally have under 1,000 students.
Rankings are based on the MaxPreps computer rankings.
Teams are listed with their record and their ranking.

Very good team GATA!  I was telling my friend at the game we was playing the state champs of 3a div 2 so i didn't mind losing 43 to 8..lol
But i think this is the best team newton has had in awhile. . d line is very very fast! Even the offense is better than the past few years.. I think if Newton would've had this offense to go with the 2014 teams defense,  it would've been a different game against waskom..
Newton stays healthy yall will bring it home this year!

I don't see CC beating Newton or Garrison beating Crockett. Newton is just playing solid football and  Crockett is solid and Garrison has a lot of two-way starters. JMO

Its not gonna be good for my bulldogs come friday night nation. . even tho i bleed blue i know whats coming..
The final score might not show it but we gave crockett a fit in the first half.. It was 20 to 12 at halftime but crockett ran away with it in the 2nd half.. Corrigan just isnt having much luck this year and losing key players sure doesnt help.. I think we will battle garrison for the 3rd seed and thats just what it will be a battle..
My predictions for this game is we will have trouble even scoring.. But my bulldogs will fight til the end crockett will tell u that.. Just hope both teams come out healthy because playoffs is drawing near..

Is not just the kids from Newton that make Newton so good, it's all the kids from the suburbs of Newton:
Biloxi, Old Salem, Fawil, Liberty, Jamestown, Belgrade, Bon Wier, Sabine Sands, Trout Creek, Pine Grove and probably Wolf Den somewhere along the way!

Telling every detail about a team to the opposing team is not cool. Names , number , type of injury. The post above already noted the injuries but with respect didn't go into detail. Just not cool at all.
