Slot T will usually mask a lack of overall talent top to bottom with precision blocking and deception, but what I have noticed at the 5A and 6A level it usually only gets you so far before you meet a group that is just as disciplined and will slow them down, make them get out of their comfort zone and pass a lot more. Fact is once you get this deep the teams are all very sound, disciplined and do the little things correctly. Then it's no longer about scheme as much as it is about talent. I got Crosby with the W.

Crosby needs to be methodical on offense. Win the time of possession big time like PNG did, but finish drives. Had PNG finished each long drive FBM would be at home.  I think CC wins this as long as they don’t try to get into a shootout. Taking down Tx High was, eh. I didn’t think that district was all that great. But beating Huntsville was impressive. Good Luck Coogs.

Yes. Todays offenses score so quickly that a good defense versus a good offense can look deceiving. A 49-28 winner is a defense that was on the field a lot and made enough stops and slowed the quicker offense down. Thats a good defense. LSU last year was a prime example. Tiger fans were going nuts early on about the points given up, but had never been used to such a quick scoring offense. Boom National Champs

I've always been a firm believer that defense wins championships. But one thing that every championship defense always or must have is a great scoring defense and win the takeover margin. Without those two factors, it's hard be at that level, imo. But also, I've said it before... the offense also has to compliment the defense and score as often as possible to earn that right to be a dominant championship like defense.

I went back and watched the 4th quarter play where PNG threw the interception.  Bost went for the homerun, but if you watch closely, Vaughn was wide open in the flat. Just take what the defense gives you, burn up all the clock, and punch it in with under a minute left.  And heck, I'm going for 2 against the 3rd ranked team in the state.  On the road with nothing to lose.

PNG came so close to a statement win. Sad for the team. However, I think we established pretty clearly which district is better. FBM hasn't been challenged all season and it showed.

How many times has PNG finished 4th or lower in District under BF in 12 years?  Twice. This year and 2012.
go back and see how many times the former coach finished .500 or less in 15 years...I’ll save you the trouble, it’s 7.
Finishing 4th or less twice in 12 years does not make a standard.
FBM alot to PNG not alot.

    Time for a split.
Problem with 6A is that the largest 6A could feasibly be as large as they want. You could have a 7,000 student school competing against 3,000. Huge delta.

We always have a good offense and with that being said, a decent defense shut RJ and company down. We need a team full of RJ's to make it all the way.

What’s weird is most of those mock drafts had CJ going higher than LJ.   For whatever those things are worth.   I’m like you guys, LJ seems more NFL ready right now.

They both could use another year. LJH is obviously the more ready WR though

He’s one of those that kinda makes you mad.  He has the talent to be the best receiver in the country, but some games he doesn’t show up.  He definitely has an NFL body and skills.  Just needs the want to

LJH can play now in the NFL. CJ could use another year. LJH has the WR swagger and toughness for the Show. CJ not so much, but he has loads of ability.

PNG has had excellent offenses with QB’s like Doty, Miller, Walker, Morse and of course Shug and Bost will fit the bill and continue that string (skill set more like the first four mentioned of course).
WR’s like Deron, Jalali, Nelson, Rose, Sparks, Giblin, McZeal, Riggs, etc. Wenschuel returns as does Proenza and several Sophomores that saw time.
Been missing the backs like Harmon, Bertrand and Halfin, but Conner showed flashes last year in limited action and Deslate runs tuff when healthy.  I think the Barnett kid that played QB on JV when Bost was up could also be an option in backfield. He is stout and runs hard. Can also wing it if needed.
OLine returns and are big, but gotta be more physical and quicker. Another year of offseason work can bring it. Cohesiveness should be a plus.
Defense is where the 2019 Indians will be most improved. Sophomore group moving up from JV have been very good defensively. LB’s all return.
2019 Indians will once again compete for the DC. Do I see them getting past FBM with all they have returning...No, but a top two district finish and another run to round three is a real possibility.
