2. ESPN and CollegeCochingNews.com reported that Terry is atop the LU list. they also commented about his recent prowess in recruiting top players from Canada to UT. Not quite the same to get those guys to LU. We went the Canada recruiting route with Mike Deene and produced ho hum results. Grant was a good shot blocker and a great student, but that was about it. The others from Canada were duds.
 3. Capel can make more money as an assistant at a Major. For those that point to his OU Elite 8 run, don't forget he had the Griffin boys and Willy Warren on that team. Hard to lose many games with that trio. Cyprien looks like a pretty good candidate, but I really want someone with winning HC experience at the college level, wether it be JC, DII or other.
 4. Nice hard to read first post! ::) Funny last night the Dewey kid you are refering to was the only guy to go 0 fer in the first game! He went 0-3 and K'ed twice. Nice call. And the DH in the last game went 1-2 with 3 walks and scored twice. I can see where that could be a problem.  ::)

They scored over a 100ppg.
He also has the support of his head coach at Marquette Buzz Williams who has big texas ties and has done well at marquette! I looooooooooved gil goodrich.  He was a thug but he could play!!!!
Me to on Goodrich. His dissmissal was not a Tubbs call, but a Roc call. Roc couldn't stand him. You know he went on to average over 30ppg at Bowie State and was over 20 ppg in Europe. Monarch had several talented kids at Panola.

 7. Thanks. We enjoyed it as well. Pitchers got some good innings and seeing live pitching for batters is allways better than BP. Good Luck to you guys when school ball ends in May. We have that wait to look forward to next year.
 8. I gotta say that when they hired Roc I was very excited. I really expected big things and was happy it was a guy that loved this university and this area. I said then and I will say it again any new coach at a mid to low major should get 5 years to bild a program. I was 100% behind OUR guy. It just didn't happen. Five years is up and this program is no better then it was on the court. It's time to move on. As most have stated Steve Rocaforte will find a position quickly doing what he does best for a big program and he will probably make more money. I know it's not what I invisioned five years ago nor what Roc invisioned when he moved his family here, but it is part of the coaches lifestyle. At the end of the day it's all about winning. Don't give me this graduation rate BS. Rice graduates every football player it recruits, but they still have a new coach every four years!!! Here's hoping the next roll of the dice is the lucky roll for us LU fans. As a PNG fan, a lot of folks on here thought we were nuts for wanting to make a change from Burnett two years removed from a DC, but we all knew what shape the program was in...It was time. We rolled the dice and we couldn't be happier. We now have a HC that is building a solid program. Here's hoping Tidwell and company get lucky.

Probably best that you don't let your inner thoughts out as a member of the local media. Calling the people that pay your bills idiots is not smart!!! I just lost a lot of respect for you as a professional. I didn't know I was employed by setxsports.com. I'll start sending my bills your way. If you get your feelings hurt over something on a fan board, I feel sorry for you. Oh come on, you lost a lot of respect for me as a professional? You don't even know me. Come pay me a visit, I'm at Parkdale all day everyday.
I know you! I used to watch you on KBTV! Who said anything about SETXSports.com being your employer?? We all know who you work for and it appears that you fail to realize that KBTV sports is a service provider that relies on it's local population as it's sole means of making money. Not smart to call those people idiots! Again it is very unprofessional.

 11. I think this WAC job was saying that someone in the media said it...We all know the media is wrong often! ;D
 12.
Best thing that could have happened to clear out all of the staff.............I just wonder how this will effect some of the players who are suppose to be back next season??
With so many juniors this year I doubt any will leave. Most would have to go DII to play. Minor and Brown could go, since they was a true Sophomores last year. They could Red-shirt and still have two years somewhee else.
 13. May all be a moot point anyway because I believe Lamar by way of its record this year and last years NCAA birth will get an at large, but Terror - READ IT AGAIN. It says AND!!! Automatic Berths A team that is offered an automatic bid by the WNIT shall be the team that is a.) the highest-finishing team in its conference’s regular-season standings, and b.) is not selected for the NCAA Tournament. A team that fulfills these qualities will earn the WNIT automatic berth for their respective conference, regardless of overall record. Meaning that the top finishing team in the conference gets a birth if they don't get the Auto to the NCAA. It says nothing about the second place team JACK A$$. Therefore based on this rule, McNeese will go to the NIT.
 14.
I also agree with you in saying he should be gone.  He never put the plan in place where you have a good freshman class full of freshman.  It was all jucos all the time. I just feel like the next guy needs to be a non juco recruiter or at least not an only juco recruiter like roc!
You do realize that his starting five down the stretch consisted of the following: C - Custer (recruited out of HS) Sr. PF- Brown (recruited out of HS) So. G - Lamb (JUCO) Jr. G - Minor (recruited out of HS) So. G - Miles (recruited out of HS) Jr. Plus Osas (recruited out of HS) Fr. played a bigger role off the bench and Harper (recruited out of HS) Jr. played 20+ minutes a game. So really only Lamb and James saw a lot of PT from the JUCO ranks. Thats 6 HS kids and 2 JUCOs in his 8 man rotation that he finally stuck with. Sure looks to me like the guy recruits out of HS pretty evenly. This past year was skewed with JUCO talent because the previous two years he recruited alot of HS kids and he felt the urgency to win now!!!
 15. Dont forget that Cross recruited a pretty good talent in David Laury to LSCPA. A 6'8" 210 lb SG. Then he kicked him off the team midway through the season! So he can recruit and knows the game as well. I'm still a Bubba Skelton fan, but my best case scenario would be Skelton as HC with Cross as one of his assistants.
 16.
Saw Billy Gillespie today at the state basketball tourney. He was sporting a "cardinal" red shirt. ;) ;D
With two T's on it!
 17.
I think Matt Cross is worth looking at. He has done well at P.A.
He did well at Talladega College and Texas College before LSC-PA. Read below from LSCPA Bio: "Cross moved to Texas College in Tyler as an assistant coach in 2006. Six months into the job, the head coach resigned and Cross was asked to take the job on an interim basis. Starting with a 1-11 record and a depleted roster, Cross was able to lead the Steers into the Red River Athletic Conference postseason tournament, highlighted by an upset win over the regular season conference champion, Houston Baptist University. After the season the college took the “interim” tag off Cross’ title. The following year, Texas College compiled a 21-13 overall record and won the co-championship of the Red River Conference, the first-ever conference title for the school. It also was the Steers’ first winning season in three years and a NAIA Division I-best 15-game improvement from the previous year. In 2008, Cross moved to Talladega College, where former Texas College president Billy Hawkins wanted to resurrect the school’s sports programs that had been inactive for more than a decade. During the 2008-09 season, the first-year Tornadoes went 25-7 overall and won the national championship of the Division-I US Collegiate Athletic Association. Along the way, Talladega also made college basketball history by defeating five NCAA Division I teams."

How is it brutal to expect to be at the very least one of the top 8 teams in quite possibly the worst DI basketball conference in America year in and year out?
Just so you know, it's teams like Lamar (this year) that helped make the conference one of the worst. UTA - 269 TAMU-CC  - 280 Lamar - 294 UCA - 340 You can't get rid of the bad teams, and moving to the WAC won't make your RPI any higher. Take out Utah State, and every team is about 115, even when you add in TSU-SM and UTSA. The conference will only get better when teams stop scheduling the worst teams in the country.
So what's your point? It's not like SHSU is burning it up at 179! Who said anything about the WAC? We are talking strictly SLC here. How do you think the SHSU fans would reacto to not making the SLC tourney 3 years in a row? Especially this season when the top team in the conference is 163 and only two in the top 200! Last year 5 teams top 200 and one top 100. Year before that 6 teams top 200 one top 100. The SLC Champs this year would have been 5th two seasons ago. The conference sucked this year and LU could not make the top 8. 29th ranked conference. 20.
Lamar fans are brutal.  I'm a Lamar grad and have been a long time Lamar season ticket holder who would love to see them winning and competing again.  I can see both sides of this, but knowing Roc is a local son and his experience under Tubbs, I would give him another year.
Your in the minority big time here! How is it brutal to expect to be at the very least one of the top 8 teams in quite possibly the worst DI basketball conference in America year in and year out? For some perspective on the situation. Rocs winning percentage at Lamar is 49.4% (48.8% in SLC). This places him 5th out of the 8 coaches since the Tubbs (including Tubbs). Take away the one good year when Skelton was doing the coaching and he its 46% (40.6% in SLC) which means only Mike Deane and Branchhad worse records and Deane had a 46% winning percentage in SLC. Take away the 4 BS wins against sub DI teams for those 4 years and Roc's winning percentage is a wopping 38%. Now tell me again why we should give this guy a 6th season when we didn't for any of the other guys that put up better numbers than him? ???
 21.
But they actually interviewed Floyd.
Yeah imagine that...They didn't even so much as send a letter of interest to the other guys when they were available. ::) Point is every program passes on someone that makes it big at some point. Even the big dogs get it wrong sometimes!
 22.

Tim Floyd?????
Don't put any stock in that Sleepy.  UNLV's only trying to dredge up an old argument about how LU passed on a coach who went on to later have success
LU passed up on Coach K, Roy Williams and Tom Izzo also at some point!!!  ;D
 23.
KEEP ROC I would like to see some adjustments, but I think Coach Roc should stay.  He does need help with the x's and o's so add a good offensive coordinator.  He's doing good with the recruiting and he learned a lot under Tubbs and Calipari.  Another coaching change will keep this program in constant dissaray.  Lamar ain't no Kentucky, Duke or UNC.  The program needs some stability.  A big name coach will not stay in Beaumont or at Lamar very long.  Look no further than Tidwell, he's a keeper too.
Is Roc's son named Ryan? Either that or this guy is a McNeese Alumn. What you fail to realize is that Roc's problem is his EGO! He won't let someone else take charge and his players don't believe in him for obvious reasons.  He needs to go back to doing what he does best and Recruit for one of the big time programs. He could probably make as much if not more money as a top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Kentucky or one of the other bigs. 5 years is more than enough time in the SLC!!!
 24. I second Skelton!!! The guy is a winner wherever he goes and some of the best players, hustlers on the court and fan favorites we have had at LU over the past 5 years were guys that Skelton recruited at NWMiss, which tells me he recognizes talent and hard workers.
