  1. If there is a Week 11 Saturday night game in Beaumont I might make a weekend of it and come to SETX that Fri/Sat....
  2. I think thats fair.... For the crowd who think the results mean nothing was The Woodlands State 7on7 crown a marker to tell us that maybe they'll have a special team last year?? One to watch this year....Westlake really struggled this summer....is that more evidence that they could be down?
  3. Most of the "7on7 means nothing" crowd is from schools who either a. Don't Play or b. Aren't good at it I prefer to keep it in its place a useful tool to evaluate individual talent and at times teams depending on the individual approach to the game
  4. The relevance of the game itself can be debated..but for me and my job its perfect to get 16, 24 or in this case 128 coaches in the same place that I can pick their brains and find out more about their teams...there's the old saying "work smarter; not harder" and for me I'd feel like I wasn't doing my job as well as I could if I didn't take full advantage of these kinds of opportunities to engage and network w/coaches
  5. Beaumont West Brook qualifies for State 7on7 [Hidden Content]
  6. Crosby will be in action Saturday in Houston [Hidden Content] While PNG will play Sunday [Hidden Content]
  7. I think PNG went to Cypress a couple of weeks ago
  8. Several SETX area teams in this one; West Brook, PNG, Crosby among others [Hidden Content]
  9. PNG not going to Lufkin Saturday...Lufkin apparently had a miscommunication
  10. They qualified for state 7on7 already
  11. Couple of SE Texas teams in action Saturday [Hidden Content]
  12. 7on7 isn't pointless depending on how its utilized, if you run your schemes that you run on Friday night then it's of great benefit...if you run an offense/defense to simply try and win 7on7 games then it loses value...you get out what you put in.... In the last 5 years here's the champions in Div. I/Div. II the teams who run their stuff and have won it generally have good fall season's..the teams that win it and don't run their offense..probably don't see much translation to the fall Division II 2012: Celina (10-3 lost in Regional Semis) 2013: Graham (14-1 lost in state semis) 2014: Graham (12-3 lost in state semis) 2015: Navasota (12-1 lost in Regional Semis) 2016: Kaufman (8-4 lost in area) Division I 2012: Plano (5-6 lost in bi-district) 2013: Southlake Carroll (11-2 lost in regional semis) 2014: Katy Seven Lakes (6-4 missed playoffs) 2015: Austin Westlake (14-2 lost in state title game) 2016: The Woodlands (15-1 lost in state title game) What do Kaufman, Plano and Seven Lakes have in common?? They don't run the same in offense in 7on7 that they do on Friday night...what do the others who all advanced at least three deep have in common?? There are a lot of similarities in what they run on Friday night vs. what they run in 7on7....
  13. Bishop Dunne is always one of the better private school teams in the state.....they have a DT with 21 offers....an OL with 10 offers, one other OL who has one offer....a ATH type committed to Nebraska and a DB who has over 20 offers, another one with 3....PAM will be favored but Dunne is no slouch
  14. Small schools haven't been playing Saturday playoff games for the most part in about eight years....most all the games are Thur/Fri..my guess is 2A Div. I will probably play semi-final games on Thur night
  15. They are playing Dallas Bishop Dunne in Bmt on Sept. 2 7pm
  16. Just for the record, Peterman's been at DeSoto for over ten years....he was there when Dave Meadows coached there
  17. I believe its actually ten business days to respond to FOI's so ISD's can really drag their feet..... Also keep in mind to get around FOI's, the districts will use other ways to reach out to candidates, most guys get contacted "unofficially" and they don't actually fill out an application until very late in the process...
  18. Tournaments In the General Area of SE TX Division I June 2 The Woodlands June 10 Lufkin June 16 New Caney (Several other tournaments in Houston area) Division II May 20 West Hardin June 3 Houston Athlete and Training
  19. 7on7 for most schools starts up in late May and/or June....there are a few that do spring stuff but esp at the small school level kids are still in track and baseball.... The first State Qualifying Tournaments will be in mid-May the State Tournament this year is likely going to be June 28-July 1. The full qualifying schedule should be released tomorrow on [Hidden Content],texas7on7.com
  20. Will be interesting...I'm honored for the opportunity
  21. It's tough not to get a little defensive about these things because there's so much work that goes into it. DCTF does a great job, they have a luxury FNF doesn't in that they have 2 full time staffers plus interns, writers etc. We have zero full timers on the writing side, but that's not an excuse, regardless I should have caught the Livingston deal sooner, it makes me sick when I miss stuff like that because I feel like I hurt a group of kids. The positive is despite zero full time staff we've managed to last seven years with the magazine, which is saying something. We will be more accurate than DCTF in some areas, less accurate in others and we'll both be wrong in a lot. Hopefully, even if we are totally wrong you'll find a few articles or information that's useful in the magazine.
  22. Couple of things 1) We don't operate exclusively out of the DFW area, we have writers from all over the state. Except for one part of the state literally (you guessed it SE Texas). El Paso, Laredo, Amarillo, RGV, we have em but SE TX is literally the only spot. 2) The writer who did the SE TX 5A predictions was from Houston, I thought he did a decent job all things considered. 3) Livingston is a screw up, the writer missed it I tried correcting it but it was too late for edits. Stuff happens with over 1000 schools, esp with Livingston moving after realignment. But I'll own that one, Livingston people please feel free to be pissed. 4) We've tried for several years to get some reliable in SE Texas to write for us but for whatever reasons they either don't want to; or say they will, realize its more work than they thought and back out, or have other commitments or they move to DFW. 5) If you know someone who would like to write for us by all means e-mail me. Would love to have a reliable person in SE TX. [email protected]
