1. District 20-4A MVP Who do you think should be in consideration?  And if you could vote and had to pick a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place vote, who would it be. I throw out a few names, but I really would like to know who I have missed and would love the board’s feedback. Lumberton, LCM and Central: Considering how the season went for these 3 teams, I did not come up with any individuals from these teams to discuss. Livingston: Devonte “Bull” Mays.  Consider this the Peyton Manning argument.  Just look at how this team performed with him in the lineup.  I seem to remember that going into Week 3, they were the heavy favorite to win 20-4A.  And they started off very strong against PNG!  After Mays goes down, Livingston was never quite the same. Nederland: Naturally you have to look really hard at the District Champs for the MVP.  But offensively, do you look at Carson Raines at QB or Troy Benjamin at RB.  It seems to me that this team won the district based on the Defensive Play, particularly the Defensive Line and Linebackers.  I just do not know how to pick 1 person out of this group.  So oddly enough, I do not think that the Undefeated District Champs would have someone in the Top 3 of voting. Ozen: Jakobi Jones.  This guy is explosive.  I do not know where to get perfect stats, but I would guess 1500+ yards (and likely the District Rushing leader).  He also had 17+ TDs.  He team is still alive and he is still a Huge Part of the Team.  It would be hard to argue with any votes for Jones. Trey Green:  The QB that led this Ozen team to hold on and make the playoffs in the last week of the season.  I believe he missed some time early in the year, but he still had 1500+ yards passing and 16 TDs.  They upset Barbers Hill behind an amazing performance by Green at QB.  He can make throws short and deep.  And his WRs had some drops all year or his stats could have been much better. PNG: Chase Bertrand.  He may not have had quite as many yards as Jones, but his 1300 or so yards is still impressive.  And I believe he led the District in scoring with 24 rushing TDs and 2 receiving TDs.  He was a dual threat with 26 catches. Travis Miller.  At QB, Miller led the District in Attempts, Completions, Yards (2200+), and TDs (18).  He did throw 9 picks.  However he led arguably the most explosive offensive team in the District to a 2nd place finish. Jayce Nelson.  1000 receiving yards and 10 TDs!  And when he is playing, he certainly gives the “Best Player on the Field” aura.  He made big play after big play with his 60 catches.  Vidor: Offensively, Vidor features a set of RBs that were very impressive.  Brentyn Clark was a bruiser who tallied about 1000 yards up the middle.  All of them very hard yards and I think 12 TDs.  David Smallwood was critical for the Pirates down the stretch as he neared the 1000 yard mark with 8 TDs.  David Bolinger was the most explosive player for Vidor before his foot injury early in the season.  All of these guys deserve mention. Montana Quirante.  What this guy did this year was special.  He started the season as a Full Time Middle Linebacker and a Part-Time Quarterback.  He quickly showed a lot of poise at the QB position to go along with the occasional spectacular run.  And arm injury in the Nederland game cost him most of the 2nd half and 2 more weeks of not being at full strength.  I am not sure of the Defensive Stats, but I believe he led the Pirate team in Tackles.  He certainly was a Key Presence in the Pirate Defense.  Offensively, his numbers grew as the weeks went by.  I believe he had 20 TDs, including 3 TDs in both of the 1st two rounds of the Playoffs (although one of those TDs was a Pick 6).  I thought he also had 2 passing TDs along with about 400 passing yards.  But he had about 1000 yards rushing to go along with his rushing TDs. I guess considering that Quirante did so much damage on both sides of the ball and considering that he led a team that was picked to only wind a couple District games to 2 playoff victories (so far), I would have to give him the nod as the favorite.  What do you think?
 2.
He needs to stay in black & gold he better come on over to Nederland... ;)
That is where his dad played.  But I am sure glad that I think he will be staying in Vidor  ;)

Was just about to post it. For those who don't know, this is originally a soccer song that the crazies overseas sing for their team, and the Lapray's and Packard's brought it here to Vidor for the soccer and football games. Love those people! Some of the best and most friendly people you'll ever meet. I had the amazing opportunity of training 2 of their youth soccer teams this year and had the best experience of my life and hope to continue. Go Pirates!
All the credit goes to my 2 brothers:  Chad and Heath LaPray.  They have made it happen. And you have plenty of students at VHS who know the chant and sing it loud with them.  They are who you need to get to do the Pep Rally work.  It will be much better recieved than from some old fogies.
Lol.  That's funny...  Thanks for your support, and you better believe me and my green shoes, will be rooting for Montgomery and the rest of 17-4A!  Like I said earlier, I wanna meet up with a couple of Vidor people and check out the atmosphere their fans provide.  If they have a problem with a football-crazed Cub fan standing up and yelling for the Bears, then thats too bad, cuz it's gonna happen.  Good luck Friday!
So , you will be sitting on Vidors side and you will be pulling for Montgomery . Seriously thats Not a good idea !  Probably will get punched . Just saying
you can sit by me .... and pull for your beloved bears.... ;=D I know MObears  will love it know that their #1 fan is safe and sound on the Black Pearl :-D..... I can even PM you my Cell # and that way you can find me easier :-D
Sit next to Chris.  He carries quite the presence.  Not that you need any protecting, but he certainly will prevent any stupid from coming your way!

 6. Vidor was missing a couple of players that are still playing football (and hope we are missing them for weeks to come). We are also without a potential starter (for non-football reasons), but we may be without him all year. Vidor suited up 8 boys last night.  4 of them were Sophomores.  2 of the Sophomores started last night.  Our other 3 starters last night were Juniors.  Things will get mixed up as the season wears on, but we are a very young team.  We only have 1 Senior. I thought that HF looked quite good last night.  I thought that Vidor played much better in the 2nd half.  I hope that the improvement will continue for the Pirates in the weeks to come.  Congrats to HF on a Clear and Convincing victory last night!
 7. [Hidden Content] If this is Mark...... Then I do not know who will win the football game, but I would lose any sideline scuffle with Mark... ;D Seriously, I am looking forward to watching more film before I make any "real" comments.  And by then I am sure we will be way past talking football.  ;)

Anyone who says they weren't impressed by the twins tonight is a lier that torched that defense. We made mistakes that lost us this game, and a tough loss of a very good linebacker means a vidor win, congrats. 46 can't do everything, need his buddy 47 to help him out. But honestly our defense was just so bad tonight our offense couldn't bell them out. GL vs your opponent Vidor.
I was impressed with Twins and the QB.  Seriously, impressed! Makes what our Def did even more outstanding...IMHO

 11. Crosby Offense:  I am not sure what # the Twins wear.  However, from what I saw of their QB (#7), he looked really impressive.  He looks better using his legs, but he can throw it.  He appeared to be more dangerous throwing when he could set his feet.  I would best describe their offense is PNG-like.  They run the bubble screen.  A lot of fake handoff, QB keeper.  And a lot of shotgun, handoff to the RB lined up next to the QB.  There offense is explosive.  I saw quite a few big plays.  One thing that I thought I noticed is that on many of their plays, they do not appear to use the line to block the LBs.  It appears that they are trying to neutralize the DL and then let the RBs make the LBs miss.  I know that we historically have struggled with the PNG-like offense.  But I thought we defended the Bubble screen very well against PNG.  And I would guess that Crosby would adjust and focus extra blockers on our LBs.  But I hate to guess too much on what Crosby will do.  Clearly, there coaches will have a better insight than I do. Defense: I watched what they did defensively against Barbers Hill.  I do not think Vidor will see a similar scheme.  They really only had a 3 man front all night.  To echo what another poster said, there Right DE is a beast! A few posters talked about how BH runs the same offense as Vidor.  This could really not be further from the truth.  BH seemed to run 2 basic offenses.  One was a spread.  But the offense that BH started with against Crosby was a Run oriented offense, but was not Wing T/Slot T.  I assure you that no coach in Crosby is confused and think that BH offense prepared them for Vidor's offense.  Crosby's Defense had some huge Turnovers against BH.  They were difference makers. Other Observations:  At  least twice Crosby went for it on 4th down.  Once, in the 1st half, crosby went for it on 4th and 1 from their own 14.  I could not believe what I was seeing.  They converted both times.  Special Teams:  Crosby's Special Team play that I saw (against PNG and BH) seemed odd.  They had some big plays, but they gave up some big returns.  And they had one kickoff return that ended up inside their own 5.  I did not have a good angle for watching these plays, but it just seemed weird. I am not sure who will win this game.  I think it is crazy to think that either team is clearly better than the other.  Could we have a blow-out?  Sure, anything can happen on a Friday night especially with all the pressure of the Playoffs.  If either team has early Turnovers, it could get ugly.  But from what I saw, it should be 2 really good teams that match up on Thursday night.  I am going to try to watch more of Crosby and I may post some follow-up later in the week.
Good post. Our Special Teams consistently makes us go what the heLL. We are PNG like but more running then they do, they seem to pass as much as they run, we do not do this. The defense you will see is a 3-3-5, and it will be getting played all night. Also i expect the blocking scheme to be the same, if it didn't change vs BH (Great linebackers), there is no reason to change it for Vidor. The linebackers get picked by there own linemen most the time, and they almost always are put into bad angles by doubles on the linemen. Means we push the tackle 4 yards down field into the way of the linebackers. Now i do believe there is potential for something like the PNG game to happen. However i simply believe if you give the Cougars a lead and there special teams doesn't hand you the game, your not gonna come back. 1 Yard is automatic for my Cougs, but tbh that play was a "I think they can't stop me" type of play. The coaching staff must have believed BH cannot stop the cougars on 4th down, and guess what they where right. we were 3/3 on 4th down conversions btw. I guess i don't know what your calling the slot t then, my bad my 60's football schemes book is a little faded. =p (Gotta have a little fun)
Our Special Teams consistently makes us go what the heLL. That fumbled KO to start the 2nd half was a killer for Crosby.  We talked about this post in the stands after it happened.  It was a Huge Break for the Pirates!

 14. The support from around the area was impressive.  Thanks to all. Kudos to the boys, Jeff, and the rest of the staff.  Tonight was the beginning of a new tradition in Vidor!
 15.
Congrats Pirates!!!!!!I just got home and yes it was a good old fashion spanking....Special shout out to the Crosby defensive coordinator..Stayed in that 3 man front all night and let us ram it right up the old chute...On the bright side....The Crosby posters are gone for another year.Ozen,Png,& Ned send the rest of the 19-4a boys away this weekend
They stayed with the 3-3-5......and they held us to 42 points ;). Seriously, I could post this in 5 more threads and I would never get tired of it!
 16. Hat Tip To Crosby!  They stayed in that 3-3-5 Defense all night long.  And they only gave up 42 point! ;)
 17.

The 3-3-5 works when the DL can command double teams.  If not, things get dicey.
47 commands and beats double teams regularly, corner stone to our defense, also 46 seems to take up defenders by pressing the whole. 1 Question about the vidor offense... Your misdirection that you point out, does it involve the use of back fakes. Like for example FB gets a fake followed by handoff to opposite side, or is it a counter variant offense. Where everyone fakes one way then goes the other?
[Hidden Content] If you are interested, I found the above 5 minute highlight video.  It is obviously not our team, but you will get the basic idea of the offense. I am a Vidor fan, so it will come as no surprise that I hope your players take 3 or 4 quarters to figure it out.  ;) But I have seen your team on film this year.  Crosby is a really good team that is coming off a Huge win.  I expect a dogfight.
 18.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong but hasn't Vidor's oline been the smaller line in most every game they have played?
The only 2 games where our Oline appeared to be evenly sized with the Opposing Lines were Kirbyville and PNG.  I think the other 8 were all bigger than us.
 19. As to the outcome, I think you are right about the Early Lead being very important.  I think there could be a lot of points scored by both teams. I know this is cliche to say, but I predict the game comes down to Turnovers.  Whoever gives the ball is way will have a hard time rebounding.
 20. As to the 3-3-5, I will defer to your knowledge of the team.  I have not seen all the Crosby games, but I do not remember coming out of this Defense.  And interestingly, it could be quite the curveball for Vidor.  Lately, we have been looking at 5 and 6 man (or more) fronts.  As to the Kicking Game, I appreciate your feedback.  Of the games I saw,  WTH would be a good description.  Our special teams play has not been spectacular this year.  It seems like it has been solid but very few big plays either way. On the blocking scheme, it did seem effective when I saw it.  The LBs were not blowing up the plays at the LOS very often.  I also agree that you run the ball more than you pass.  And your QB is very effective running the ball.  But I saw some Big Homerun passing plays for yall!  Vidor DBs better not fall asleep. Vidor's offense is quite unique.  And when it is run right, it can be very frustrating for the Defense.  And this has been a good year for the Pirate offense.  But it is no secret that 2 of our RBs are not healthy.  Only time will tell, how much they will play and how effective their replacements will be on the Big Stage.

 23. Livingston never gave up! Vidor blocking the PAT was crazy.  It just feels like Vidor football may be turning a corner.  Those are the kinds of plays that seem like they always go against us in years past.  Tonight, they went our way.  I sure hope so.
 24. Ned, PNG, and Vidor are all in. Livingston Controls its own destiny.  Ozen gets in only with an Ozen Win, and a Vidor Win, and a PNG win next week.
