1. Vidor's preseason schedule is simply not as strong as the Jefferson County 4A schools.  I am a huge Pirate Fan, but our non-district schedule has be historically weak.  Some of stems from our Losing Tradition and I think a practice of trying to schedule some "winable" non-district foes.  But of late, some of comes from an inability to get opponents who will play us.  I am not trying to be a martyr here.  I just think schools have traditional opponents and even when those match-ups change through the years, other programs do not have much of an incentive to schedule  Vidor.  Historically, it was a game that you are supposed to win and there was big downside if Vidor pulls the upset.  Maybe if Vidor can build a playoff tradition, it will help motivate more schools to schedule Vidor in the future (but to be fair, going to the playoffs 2 out of 3 seasons is simply a possible start such a tradition). A final factor that may limit Vidor's ability to schedule is it's unique offense.  It does not make sense for a team to scheme against a unique system for just 1 game.  I really do not know how much that affects coaches in there scheduling mindset.  I know it would factor in for me. But I wish Vidor fans would not try to trash talk when people call our preseason schedule weak, because it is simply not as strong as some others.  But none of that means that we can't win district this year.  8)  But it does make it hard to gauge just good we really are vs how weak are opponents happen to be.
2.
You know I'm gonna throw Montana out there but I want to put another name in the ring. Jon Boy Smith should get some serious looks this year at both tight end and defensive end. He's a beast of a player and great kid. BTW liltex, we have our own Juan Carranco coming in Jesus Tamayo Jr. Watch that name kicking field goals for Vidor this year.
liltex,  I saw Carranco kick last year at the Butch.  The kid was amazing.  My 12 year old son still talks about him and his performance.  I watched Quirante play some amazing games last season, but I think Carranco's performance was as dominant as anything I have ever seen.  I love the two Tamayo boys at Vidor this year.  And I think they will provide us a great option at Kicker.  But they are no Juan Carranco.  Good Luck to Juan at the next level, and the level after that!
3. I think Sante Fe must not be very good, but Vidor D looks really strong.  Sante Fe is in negative total yards with 5 minutes left in half. We are already seeing backups in in spots for the Pirates.  I would look for the game to get more competitive as a result. Vidor has had 6 or 7 different players carry the ball so far.
4.
I went to the Clear Brook/Santa Fe scrimmage.......The Santa Fe coaches should look worried. There is one similarity between the 2 teams that will be very noticable
Eagle, I believe those are the 2 of the 3 teams that Vidor opens with in Non-District.  Could you compare the 2 and comment on the style of play of both teams.  I am very curious. I would love to see Vidor open with a turnover free and penalty free game.  Well, then again, that may be too much to hope for in Week 0.  ;)  But I do not know how to make a prediction when I have no idea what Sante Fe will look.
5. No scores in 3rd quarter. Both Def still look really good!
6. WOS scores on 2nd play....60 yard WR screen pass.  TD WOS. Makes it even for the half
7. WOS holds....vidor punts...WOS unable to get a 1st.  Vidor takes over at own 40 with 3:40 left in half.  Vidor runs "hurry up"....where we relineup quicly after each run ;) I am done with updates.  Both Defenses look very good.  Both Offenses have shown flashes, but nothing sustained by either team after 1st drive. Then while I type Vidor converts on 3rd and 10 with a 25 yard pass play.  Then QB keeper for a long (time) 5 yard TD run with 1:26 left. This is just a scrimmage, but I am pleased.  These 2 teams are competitive.  I may drop a few more updates late.  Nicest thing about the night was the weather!  Please give us this weather all season!
8. Vidor holds on 4th and 2.  Takes over on own 35 with 8 mins left in 2nd.
9. Vidor holds on 4th and 7...takes over at abaout own 30.  Throws a pick on 3rd down.  2 turnovers, too many!  But it is a scrimmage.  ;)
10. Vidor fumbles....WOS takes over at mid field. WOs converts on 4th and a foot, barely.  WoS 3rd and 13 from Vidor 40.  End of 1.  No score.
11. Vidor takes first drive.  Converts once on 4th down once.  Fails to convert on 4th and 6 (after penalty) at WOS 25.  But vidor burns up 7 minutes on drive.  Wos takes over and gets 1 first down.  And punts on 4th and 10.
12.

If Vidor does better than Nederland...Lord help us all...the threads will be endless. :D
We can only hope!
We do have some really obnixious fans.  And if we look good tonight, they will come out in force.  Ugh! But I still hope we look good.  ;)
13. From what I have read, WOS got the better of Ned (who is picked by most to win the district).  So I agree that WO-S will be a huge test.  My heart wants the Pirates to be dominant against the Stangs, but my head just wants us to be competitive.
14. Smith!  He had a TD.  The other new player is the only Soph currently working with Varsity, Simmons.  He also had a TD. Cat, good luck to your Bobcats!
15. And please know that I understand that this was just a scrimmage. But Vidor looked very good tonight.  Particurarly on Defense!
16. Liberty 1st off against Vidor Def: Vidor gave up 1 long pass play for about 30 yards.  Libert did not convert another 1st down.  Viodr D played well against a good QB with a big arm and 1 very good WR.  I was very pleased with our defense.  They only ran about 10-12 plays and then lightning struck.  Scrimmage called!
17. Vidor 2nd Team offense against Liberty Def: Vidor was out of sync but looked good at times.  Did score 1 TD and had no Turnovers.
18. In between these series, Orangefield Def against Liberty Offense on a couple series.  I will withold detailed comments, but it is fair to say, small advantage to Liberty.
19. Vidor 2nd Team Def then played Oranfield Off (don't know if it was 1st team or 2nd team). Vidor held well but Orangefield did have positive yards.  Vidor had 1 INT and Orangefield had a few first downs but did not get past midfield.
20. 3 way scrimmage.  Orangefield Off against Vidor Def. Vidor looked very dominant.  Approx 15 plays for Orangefield, about -25 total yards....and about 3 turnovers.  But this is just a scrimmage. ......... Vidor Off against Libery Def: Vidor looked a bit choppy (but it is early).  Vidor scored on our 2nd play.  Did complete a pass and missed on another open WR.  And scored 2 TDs on 3 possesions.  Our offense went way out of sync when we made a change at QB.
21. The performance by Zach in the Shout-Out was one of the most impressive individual performances I have ever seen in a Team Sporting Event.  He was Amazing! I am so glad that I got to see the game. Both teams played hard.  Both teams played well enough to win.  Congrats to LUM on a great Season.  Good Luck to the Pirates next week!
22. Png 34 Vidor 14 Still more turnovers than shots for Vidor....I think my battery is dying...someone else may have to finish updates
23. Png 13 Vidor 7 End of 1st Vidor has twice as many turnovers than shot attempts.  So vidor has plenty of room for improvement.
24.

Dang it Soulja...I have been wanting to meet you for years.  Come find me next time you are in Vidor.
If Central's Football or Basketball team is in Vidor, so will I.  8) 8)
I will keep that in mind.  Good Luck to Ya'll in the Playoffs!
