All the buzz this week in the leadup to the tournament is about the Bats. Will the Easton Stealth not be allowed this weekend? That is the question of the day. -
2010 GT PONY Pinto All Star Tourney

Lazeek...your commentary (IMO) leaves little to be added to, but I will give it a shot. Tournament Favorite: Vidor #1. You know how much I hate to be the favorite. I love selling the underdog position. But based on how these teams have already played each other, I have to agree that Vidor #1 is the team to beat. They have fared very well against 3 of the other teams in the field in preparation tournaments in the last few weeks. The Field: I would group the next 4 teams together: Orange #1, Vidor #2, Twin County #1, and Groves #1. I understand why Lazeek put Orange at the top of this list. The only time I have seen them play, the tournament rules took away their Bats. Even with the little barrels, they hit the ball well. However, I think they will hit even better this weekend. Vidor #2: Do not count this team out just because they are a second team. If their bats get hot, they have 4 or 5 kids who can hit it out of the park. They will have the home field advatage as well. Twin County: They split their series with Groves and beat Vidor #2 in a close game. Their bats are slumping. However, if they come alive, then they move up to the top of the Field. Groves #1: I have not been able to see them play at all. But the talk coming out of Groves is that they are as good or better than any team out there. The biggest worry here is the lack of tournament experience as a team. All of the rest of these teams have played at least 2 warm-up tournaments. The Rest: Orange #2, Twin County #2, Groves#2. I think that Orange #2 will be the best of the Rest. They just had more teams to draw from. Twin County should be right behind Orange. Groves is fighting against a numbers game. With only 3 league teams totat, it is just really hard to field two All Star teams. Good Luck to All the Teams. Let's just hope that the rain stays away! -

This is a far cry from the legendary thread for the Shetland Tourney 2 years ago. Maybe things will heat up this week. ;) -
Thanks to Jasper who did a great job hosting a one-day tournament. We played 5 games and were done before 6:30pm. I am glad that we were able to come. (Of course, it is always more fun when you win). Congrats to all the Teams. All of the boys (and girls) played hard in some serious heat!

I have heard some rumors, but I am anxious to find out the actualy scoop on Thursday Night. -
I was/am super proud of the Vidor All-Star River Rat Team. Whatever their name is. Great Group of Boys!

Are you looking for 7u players this year to play 8u next year? Or are you looking for 8u this year to play 9u next season? Just curious.

How about some Update? -
Go Cubs Go!!!!!!!!!!

Cubs and White Sox at 6pm....Astros and Indians to follow! As to the run rule, no one is enjoying a beat down after 4 innings in a tournament situation. It makes for bad feelings and comments coming from the losing parents. It puts the winning coaches in a difficult situation. It is just not a positive for anyone. These are tournaments. I can understand the arguement for league games (but I still disagree), but I do not see any rationale for it in the these tournaments. But it is not like my opinion counts. I suggested this last year and again this year a few weeks ago. Last year, they said it would change this year. This year, they say it will change next year. ??? The tournament has been overwhelmingly positive though. Kudos to Orange for getting the field ready on such short notice. And big time kudos to Larry and Company for having the Vidor Field in the best shape that I have ever seen a field at this level. Thanks to All!

Lazeek, I know that we will see you and your boy there and I know that you will have your team prepared and ready to play. And yes, we hit the ball very well today. I thought 31 runs was a lot until the Indians put up 33. :o
-
Orange Twins looked good tonight in the late game in Orange. But the Vidor Twins had a late comeback mounting before the game was called after 5 innings...13-7 I think. And the Vidor Indians scored 33 runs--that is not a typo--in the 2nd game. They look very strong.
-
We came out fast and the Yankees came out a little flat....and ultimately that was the difference in a battle between 2 of the best teams in the Tournament. The Yankees know well how many other teams in this tournament that they could have beat. But the Giants-River Bandits game was incredible. Congrats to Both Teams but espiecially Colin!

I cannot compete with TexCoug's analysis, but I do want to wish everyone good luck. I think there will be lots of good baseball played this weekend and next week.

Cannot upload the attachment. Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] and ask me to send you one. I will send the latest version that I am aware of, but I am not an official source of information.

Way to Go Storm....Great group of boys and Coaches!
-
No Disrespect to any of the Great Coaches on the Sidelines, but this past weekend was all about 10 boys who showed no quit and really hit the ball well. But give us coaches a chance to work with the boys and I hope we can still bring it this summer. ;) Thanks Lazeek...I think we may be the favorite at this point, but I still hear Groves has an awesome team...and Orange has 9 teams....Pt Arthur is on the Rise...and TC has the coach of the century (all sports) lined up to take the team....Good luck to all the teams. And I am hoping for continued sucess for the River Rats!
-
How many teams does Port Arthur have this year? Looks like about 30 teams in the Golden Triangle. Not too shabby at all.
-
So, is your team the Team from Groves that is making all the noise. If it is, congrats! I know that PA and Groves interleagued last year, are ya'll doing that again this year?
-
Thanks to All. I am not in the know as to how many of the Vidor Teams will be playing in the Tournament yet, but I will post the info as soon as I hear about it on this thread. I know that Vidor is trying to figure out a way to host the entire Tournament. I hope that the weather is good and that we can make it a First Class event for all of the Teams. We will have trouble equally the food from the last two years in Port Arthur. But we will still try to make it an A+ experience!
-
MJB. I really appreciate the info. And I understand that not all the team may actually attend. But we are just trying to get an most teams scenario so we can start planning. Someone from Groves or Port Arthur have to be on here. Cmon!

As we plan for the upcoming Director's Tournament in Vidor, I am wondering if I could get some help from the wisdom of this board. How many teams do each team have in Pinto this year. If we can figure this out, then we will know a maximum number of teams that we are planning for. I know that Vidor has 9. I think Twin County has 7. I heard Orange has 12 :o I heard Groves has 3. I have no idea on Port Arthur. But I know this board knows mo re than I do on this. So please correct me if I got these numbers wrong, and someone from Port Arthur weigh in to help us out. TIA
-
Our team is pretty good. But we lost our SS, 1B and PowerHitting Catcher. However, I have been pleased with how our returners have continue to improve and we have a good crop of 7 yr olds. But they are 7 and 8 yr old boys--no two games or scrimmages are the same as to what you get. However, I am not kidding about this Groves Team. I hear they are awesome.
-
I know it is early and some leagues are just starting their league schedules but I wonder what the early reports are on the Pinto Teams from around the area. The rumor on the street is that there is a Team from Groves that is simply Awesome. I really have no idea but that is what I hear. Anybody else hear anything?
