  1. Yes it is always that way, but the leagues keep it interesting by sometimes sending their top team as #1 and sometimes sending the top team as #2. It seems to work out fine in the end. And it is double elimination which does reduce some of the luck of the draw factor. It should be fun and very competitive.
  2. Congrats on winning the league. I heard that the Twins won every game but the one loss in the Director's Tourney--that may be urban legend. I also heard that there were 11 teams in the league. It is no easy task to have a group of 4, 5, and 6 year olds win every game during a league season. I know that in Vidor this year, the best any of the teams did was 14-2 followed by 12-4, 11-5, 10-5-1 and so on. With so many teams, I just think it is a huge accomplishment to manage to win every game in a league situation. We did have a team do it last year, and it was very impressive. I hope lots of the boys in the picture are still playing All-Stars. We are trying to get ready, but it feels like we don't have much time to get ready. Good Luck.
  3. I have a copy of the entire bracket in pdf format, but I think it may be too big to post here. I will give it a try..... It worked...You can view the bracket by clicking on the paperclip at the bottom of the post. Good Luck to Everyone.
  4. Lazeek, Are you on the 1st team with your son? I thought you might be the coach for All-Stars as well. I know you have the energy and enthusiasm. And ya'll had a great little team when we played you in the Finals. Our Vidor teams are picked and I believe that both teams will be very solid. I am coaching one of the teams and am lucky to have 2 of my in-season coaches also have their sons make the team as well. That makes 3 and we also have a coach that I was on staff with last year in All-Stars. We also have a ton of great dads on the team as well. We could have twice as many coaches off this team if the rules allowed for such. If we have coaching problems this year, then the only person to blame is the Head Coach. As far as our team goes, the talent came off 7 different league teams. Only 1 or 2 boys will likely play in the same position that they played in league. If the boys can come together as a team, then I like our chances. If not, I will take all of the blame. Good Luck to All of the teams. Do you know if Groves, Orange, and Pt. Arthur are taking 1 team or 2 teams to the tournament?
  5. It is much different than what we are used to playing on in Vidor. But the little field in Groves was much different than what we were used to playing on in Vidor. The raised sandy mound will be the hardest adjustment come tourney time IMO. I do not think there is any chance of it being moved after hearing some of the director's talking about it. The PA system is great. The food was good (according to my kids). The bathroom situation (port-a-lets) is far from ideal. However, every league has to start from less before they can have more. They do seem to be excited about having the tournament there which means people should be there to make it happen. I am hoping for the best.
  6. We dont vote until next week, so we really will not know until then. However, our talent is pretty spread among the 9 teams. If I had to guess, we would have a few off the Astros and 1 or 2 off the Braves.
  7. Lazeek, About How many of your boys will make your All-Star team. I think it is interesting to see the how this year compares to last year. Last Year, Orange had a league team that comprised mostly 1st team All-Stars. This year in Vidor, our talent is spread around quite a few teams. Just wondering.
  8. Congrats to the Scrappers as well. The hit the ball very well tonight. I was very impressed with you hitting throughout the tournament but especially in the Championship Game. Also, hats of to the Scrappers coaches and parents. I know that it is no fun to lose a big game, but everyone was so classy in the loss. Everyone was gracious and complimentary. I thought the game was coached and cheered in the right spirit by everyone there. And Congrats to those little Astros who played their heart out. I am very proud of them.
  9. Sorry about the "boys" thing. This is the first year out of 6 years that I have coached Shetland that I do not have a girl on the team. So I have become a little insensitive. Good Luck
  10. Congrats to the Scrappers...I would have been glad to meet anyone in the finals but, no offense, but I was rooting for the Vidor Team tonight. Good Luck Tomorrow. It should be great fun for the boys and the coaches.
  11. I thought I gave it away early in the thread. I coach the Vidor Astros, but I am rooting for all the Vidor teams unless they are playing my team. ;D We have not had the opportunity to play against any of the better teams in the tournament, so I really don't know how we will fare from here on out. I am hoping for the best.
  12. Congrats to all the winners tonight and Good Luck to everyone tomorrow. It should be an exciting finish.
  13. Lazeek You did look good (at least the little part of the game that I saw). You are playing the Orange Indians, which I have no idea about. I have never seen them play or talked to anyone who has seen them play. However, I did hear that they were undefeated in Orange league play. However, that last part may be a rumor. Also on your side of the bracket are two teams from Vidor--the Red Sox and Braves. They are both solid teams. I don't really know who will come on on top of that one. The other bracket is down to the Vidor Astros and the Groves Rangers. I have no information on the Groves Rangers. I dont know what there regular season has been like and they have not played yet in the tournament, so to me they are the big Wild Card out of the 8 Teams. Also on that side of the bracket are the Twin County Lugnuts and the Vidor Cardinals. I heard that the Lugnuts won a very close game against the Vidor Royals. The Vidor Cardinals are another solid team from Vidor. Tommorow's games should all be exciting.
  14. I have to concur on the Groves as host. The field has been in great shape and someone is lining the field in between every game. The food has been good and the bathrooms have been clean. I would say that it doesn't get any better than that. Also, congrats to the Scrappers. That Groves Yankees team has a lot of talent. They were very strong at the top of their order. I think Groves will be dangerous come All-Stars.
  15. Congrats to Twin County then as well. That field in Groves is quite small and feels even smaller due to the boarded fence. The field in Vidor is much deeper (at least in my mind). I hear that the field in Port Arthur is really deep and I know that the fields that we played on last year in Orange were huge. Good Luck To Everyone Tomorrow.
  16. Congrats to the Twins...I got to be on the losing end of one of those wins in the tournament. Ya'll had a great team and were great sports. Who are the teams to beat in Orange Shetland in the tournament this weekend?
  17. Lazeek, That is amazing that you have had 3 ties out of 9 games. I guess with only 6 teams, that you probably don't play quite as many games as we do in Vidor. We have 9 teams. We start with a FunDay tournament before the season. It is single elimination, so some teams only play one game but most teams get 2 or more. One team played 4 games this year. Then we play a 16 game schedule. We still have a 2 games every night (except Wednesday) this week as well 8 more games after the tournament before our season closes. So with everyone having 3-5 games left on the schedule, the outcome is still wide open. I love working with this little guys (and girls) and I am looking forward to seeing how we stack up against teams from other areas. Good Luck To Us All. And to Black Pearl: I hope that the Vidor Astros do well in the tourney but since my son is on the team, I am biased.
  18. I am hoping to find out as much as I can about the teams from the other areas as well. I will tell you one thing which is amazing about the teams from Vidor. All 7 of the teams that are entered in the tournament can say that they have beat a team that has beat a team that between them have beat everyone else. So it is really hard to predict how the Vidor teams will fare in the tourney. Any ideas from the other cities?
  19. I know that they are 7 yr-olds. I coached against them last year in Shetland. I would be reluctant to post their names on a public board, but one of their dads checks this board now and then and he tell you if he is comfortable. I will tell you that not only are the kids great, but both of their dads are great coaches. It makes for a deadly combination in league play. Next year, my youngest son moves up to Pinto and we will have to match-up against that team, and I am not liking my chances. However, it is still fun to see kids play at such a high level.
  20. Thanks for the update...and the Vidor Angels do have a few 8 year olds, but they are all in the outfiled Good Luck to you Both
  21. I am from Vidor and the Shetland division this year has 9 teams. Only 7 could enter because two teams had too many kids that would not play on Sunday (at least that is what I heard). I don't know who the team to beat is. There are 5 teams who have a solid shot at winning the championship. We play a 16 game schedule and right now we have 5 teams within 2.5 games of the lead (and the team that is 2.5 back has more games left and can catch up with two extra wins), so basically 5 teams within 2 games. We are playing in Groves (which gives away what team we are because there is only one Vidor team in Groves). However, we are on different sides of the bracket so we will not play each other in Groves. I think it is amazing that there are 11 Orange teams in the tournament. I would love to hear how any of the teams are looking and who the teams to beat are from the different areas. I also don't mind sharing a little info on the Vidor teams.
  22. Who won tonight and made it to the finals tomorrow? I know that the Orange Twins and the Vidor Angels were in one game. The Vidor Astros were in the other but I did not know against whom.
