1. WO-S and LaVega will not play. LaVega had a game scheduled for that same week and was unable to change it.
 2.
Oh, almost forgot. Coach won't let up on them.  42-7
Coach T is not like that and especially not against a former colleague in Coach Crouch. He would be content with a 21-0 win (that's NOT a prediction), but it will also be determined by how much of a fight LCM can muster. They did not look good in the scrimmage against Orangefield.
 3. Skip, the WO-S defense will be just fine. Only two starters are back from last year, but the way Coach T puts priority on defense, I believe by the end of the year they will be really good. It's early. You just gotta be patient and believe.
 4. That's two weeks in a row we've made a late comeback from a deficit. I like that we have that ability, but man the turnovers have to get cleaned up. We're a young team learning how to play for four quarters. I trust this "loss" will give the boys a bad taste and motivate them to play smarter and correct the sloppy play. Good "game", Vidor. 'Hope your team has a good season.  OK, Mustangs...next week it's the Real McCoy. Have a great week of practice and beat LCM!
 5. Coach, you didn't mention that the 40 yard screen pass went for a TD. The "score" is 7-7 at the end of 1st quarter.
 6.
60 yd pick six Vidor
Oh...so this time around they ARE allowing defensive TDs, unlike last year?
 7.
Well my sons # 10 and if u ask me about his play it wasn't good enough the pick should have been a td but no whated to get blocking but know one was in front of him if he's going to play the rolls their asking him to well he best get in better shape long ways to go. For the mayfeild kid have to agree with the coach just as I told sage get head out your butt #1 needs two pick his head up so he can see the ball if your heads down you will get blocked all day and the boys in 20-4a are bigger then wos o line dont be mad at the coach coach your kid up this boy are young men now let them grow up maybe a little bad lip will make him play better I now #1and #10  they have more to give one thing I've learned you play for a town that loves thier football so get ready for it are go put some more skin on his tail just look at sages its gone and not from the coachs but from me his dad. Play Hard Play Fast love u #10 lets go dogs
Skipper, do you have a brother in Nederland?  ;)
 8.
Just a comment about first team and second teams Friday night.  Ned had 53 guys suited out and when the season starts their will probably be 43-44 on the varsity. The other 9-10 will drop back to JV. WOS on the other hand had 32 guys suited up...so its hard to come up with a complete 2nd team...WOS had at least half of their starters in the scrimmage at all times..right up to the end
In mid-August, WO-S does not have a completed 1st team or 2nd team. We never do. During Friday's scrimmage, the coaches moved players around to try them at various positions. Because of 1) our lower numbers, 2) that some will play multiple positions and go both ways, and 3) the coaches demands on players to earn their spots, this method is necessary. They do this every year. This is how WO-S coaches treat a scrimmage. In a real game, it would be different. Also, at least some of the white helmet players will be on JV.
 9.
Coldspring/Jasper Scrimmage Jasper  4 TD's Coldspring  0 TD's
Hmmm.....interesting result.
 10. That play where the snap went over the QBs head and he recovered under pressure to throw a deep completion...that was incredible. It seems every time WO-S and Nederland hook up they complete one of those.
 11. Two major factors Nederland has going for them is 1) the kicking game and 2) the sure hands of their receivers, which is something Nederland has a reputation for over the years. They caught just about everything thrown to them last night, even when good coverage was applied.
 12.

The story line should be: Big 4A gets schooled by a small 3a. Nederland always talks big but never delivers.
I'm not trying to stir anything up, but Ned's starters did outscore WOS 26-13..
We go through this every year in August. Nah, of course you're not trying to stir up anything.  ::) Jake had the right take on this. Both teams had a good showing and some building blocks to start the season thanks to last night's matchup. Still... ...it was a scrimmage. WO-S did not play their "1st team" against Nederland's 1st team. I know you're looking for a moral victory of sorts to pat yourself on the back as if Nederland "won" something. But, be real. It was a scrimmage. There were no kickoff or punt returns. Special teams are part of the game. WO-S was auditioning two non-starters at QB. The starting tailback, who we expect to have a big season, played defense most of the time. We moved around several players to different positions on defense because we have only two starters back from last year. The guys you saw with white helmets instead of silver ones...at least some of those will be on JV this year. The coaches did not have to prepare a game plan for this. Maybe Nederland played their first team in the first 3 quarters and not in the 4th. Big deal. It doesn't matter. I'm sure Nederland's coaching staff were experimenting with at least a few players, as well. Sum it all up...it was a scrimmage. WO-S had one more point than Nederland. So what. This was an audition for the coaches to evaluate players. A real game would have looked different because of all the items I just listed. Sorry if you feel bad about "losing," but you didn't "lose" anything, and WO-S didn't "win" anything. If WO-S were to play Nederland in a real game, I like WO-S' chances, but we won't get to see that. Both teams had a productive glorified practice last night and we'll never know who would win a real game. I'm content with that. I'm looking forward to more scrimmage work next week against Vidor, then the real thing begins against LC-M. I expect Nederland to win their district. Best wishes to you guys.
 13. Does anyone have a report on the freshman and JV games?
 14.

Lemme guess, WOS 1st team looked better than Nederland 2nd team?
FIFY
WOS 1st team played the whole time?
No. At this point in the season, WO-S doesn't have a decided 1st team and 2nd team. They are looking at two different QBs, various players at RB, and several open positions on defense. Right now they have no 1st team, 2nd team, etc. in the traditional sense. For the WO-S coaches, this was not about "winning" on the scoreboard. It was about finding the right players to fill positions and helping them make decisions to that end.
 15. Are they using kickoffs in this scrimmage?
 16.

Well, he is a Silsbee fan... Why would he ever pick against his home team? Objectively? Have you ever heard him broadcast a Silsbee baseball game? He is a little biased dontcha think???
Listened to the AAW broadcast of last year Silsbee-WO-S, the dust bowl I think and I (WOS fan) did not detect any bias.  Thats very difficult to do.
Even if the broadcast displayed a bias, there is no fault in that. He is calling the game for a radio station, school,  and audience that is all in Silsbee.

"All hat and no cattle", and "Your mouth is writing a check that your butt cannot cash".
Name your bet radioman...
$1000, I'll take Silsbee, you have HJ. You got till 6pm, Nov. 1st 2013 to accept the bet.
$1,000??? Man, radio don't pay that kind of throw away money. Musta sold a Johnny Football autograph on e-bay to get that.  ;D ;)
 18.
gilmer will roll all over navasota JMO
What?  Skip talking smack?  Hmmm... Navasota wins by at least two TDs. 'Glad the game is on TV.
 19. I gotta believe Navasota had a little emotional let down after two weeks of hype and buildup playing LaMarque and WO-S in consecutive games.  Bellville was not as strong a team as either WO-S or LM.  I expect a competitive game with Navasota vs. Gilmer, but Navasota will pull it out.  Their defense and kicker give them an edge.
 20.
griff its a shame you cant read between the lines and you support a school that has dumm kids (KIDS) so one poster said  yes he was saying  this about west orange stark high school--------------------read befor you jump on me agan.  if you have read the post i put up and told all the posters i was very sorry but you jump on here and put your 2 cents in after i said i was sorry PS everyone knows who YOU are pointing the finger at
Skip, man you gotta relax.  I was NOT referring to you.  You've gotten the shaft from a few people on here, but not me.  This thread began as a funny joke.  That was my take on it from the start.  The whole "P.E. class" thing was a comical take on what Coach Thompson said.  If you read through this entire thread you'll see where the mean-spirited comment is that I referred to.  C'mon, man, we're cheering for the same team.  We sat by each other at the Navasota game...remember?  You're on friendly territory with me.  It's just that I saw humor in this thread where you might have missed it, and that's fine.  ;D
 21. This thread was funny and harmless.  I liked it, with the exception of one poster who doesn't know the difference between joking and hateful insulting.  This year's Navasota team has to be the best 3A team to come along in several years.  They are good enough to still be playing in the 4A playoffs.  They kept knocking on the door...three straight years making a deep run, and now they should win the whole thing.  After watching film on Stephenville, I still think Navasota is the best 3A team.  Navasota's defense and big strike ability on offense would be too much for Stepheville's finesse and average speed.  Too bad that game won't happen.
