Players ussually dictate how much you can put in. Im sure you know more than them sense you went to these playoff games. Walk into that office and let them in on your expertise.
WO-S runs a 5-0 stack.

Your team won the game and is moving on to the next game...so why would it be any of your concern what our coach says after the game??? MOVE ON!!!
Because many people downed Dawson's coach for making a similar statement AFTER Nederland beat them!
There is a big difference between we beat ourselves and the best team didn't win.
Note: word in bold... If you aren't giving credit to the team that beat you then there isn't a BIG difference.  And WO-S didn't beat themselves, They were dominated by a better team!  The "best defense in the state" was neutralized with the same speed on the other side of the ball.  The pressure on the qb was neutralized with great blocking, and that highly touted secondary was exposed.  Now they do swarm to the ball like crazy, I must admit.  WO-S did commit TOs, but so did Navasota!  After scoring 3 plays into the game, I knew this defense was not going to be able to contain Navasota.
The Dawson coach just flat out disrespected Nederland and was a sore loser after that game.  Everything Coach Thompson has said was NOTHING like that.  There is no comparison.  To say that the Mustangs turnovers and penalties (aka "we beat ourselves") contributed to the loss is an accurate statement.  That's not a sore loser mentality and that's not an excuse.  He recognized that "...they just beat us."

It's amazing that you didn't see what your players were doing. 11 and 12 were taunting and pushing after the play all night. So quit whinning.  Number 12 has been a trouble maker all year. You can see it on film and I've seen comments about him from referee's on other sites so please stop trying to make your kids sound like poor little victims. When 60 got ejected it was because 11 shoved his helmet into the ground when he was getting up. No excuse for his actions, but quit acting like your kids were innocent.
They may have been taunting, but I am pretty sure everyone was running their mouth.  The difference was they had no penalties called on them.
Much of this kind of stuff never gets caught by the refs.
 5.
Dang you Navasota fans just can't be happy with your win, can you? Learn how to win guys, you don't have to humiliate the kids and their accomplishments in the process... WOS had 9 shut outs, you can't take that away from them. They let one game get away from them and you try to discredit everything they worked hard to accomplish all season! It's ridiculous how some of you adults act...
Gas, I wouldn't assume all of them are adults.  ;)
 6. Congratulations to Navasota.  You were easily the better team. Nothing suprised me about how well you played, with the exception of how well your team rushed the ball in the second half.  The big play ability, the QB, receivers...they were good as I thought.  Especially #2. Before the game, I thought that the ONLY way WO-S had a chance to win was if we did not have turnovers and minimized the number of penalties on offense.  We did neither.  Even IF you remove the WO-S INTs, fumbles, and penalties, Navasota still wins this game, probably by a score of something like 35-21 or 38-28.  That is about as close as the game COULD have been and ONLY IF everything went right for WO-S.  The Rattlers were better.  I expect Navasota to easily beat Bellville next week (who should beat Port Isabel).  Then, Gilmer (who will beat Henderson) will provide some competition, but not enough.  You have a very impressive team.
 7.

Just watched the entire game film of navasota and lamarque. And I'll say this if navasota plays like that tomorrow night they lose by atleast 14. Wasn't empressed at all. I was expecting a lot more. I know navasota could probably play better than that but they will have to play a lot better to beat wos!!!!
:-X Everyone has been saying the same thing all year.  GOOD LUCK!
Nah...your team has had tons of praise heaped on them, like...a #1 ranking...!  Navasota has earned respect around the state and from WO-S.
 8.
Just an outsiders observation after watching Navasota three times- They have a real good Fg Kicker/Punter. How good is the kickers for WOS? Curious who has the special teams advantage? Might decide the game.
We have a good kicker.  He booted a 40-yarder in a previous game, but he isn't called on much for FGs.  Our punter has performed well all year.
 9.

I think Reliant stands to make more revenue from college basketball than HS football.  At least it would seem to be the case.
Not if Nederland plays... Also depends what colleges are playing... Don't see many people going to watch Lamar lose...
I was thinking about multiple game tourneys and games that would insure big crowds like UT, etc.  Reliant would stand to benefit from those, but don't get me wrong.  As a fan, I hope HS teams will get to use it more often.  'Just think they might be more interested in booking college basketball tourneys if the two conflict on the schedule.
 10. I think Reliant stands to make more revenue from college basketball than HS football.  At least it would seem to be the case.
 11. Also, WO-S fans appreciate the nice things some of you from Nederland and PNG have said on our threads.  I really hope your team breaks through and wins it all.  Keep making believers out of those non-Golden Triangle metropolitan folks.  The success you've gained this year has been well-earned.
 12. To all Nederland fans... I'm a lifelong WO-S fan who is wholeheartedly behind you guys.  I would love to see you bring home the 4A trophy.  Go win the next one, and keep winning until you get there.    After watching "the play", I got chill bumps.  When you consider all the elements and pageantry of this game...playing at Reliant Stadium, against the #1 ranked team, being the underdog, getting slighted as not one of the big-city schools, playing a "vanilla" brand of football, losing the momentum late in the game, going to overtime and winning it with a BIG TIME CLUTCH play like THAT...I was cheering hard for you guys and celebrating when you won the dang thing.  Regardless of school affiliation, the Golden Triangle as a whole should be proud of your team and accomplishments.  There is an electricity in setx and among fans that is shared just like the years when people would attend state championship games for PNG, WO-S, TJ, and West Brook.  Our opposing teams will have plenty of future battles against each other, but it's a good feeling when we can have each other's back and root for one another like this.  That defense of yours (#90 especially is ferocious), the steady play on offense, and Neumann's coaching has been outstanding.  Now go win that 4A title and we'll do our best to bring home the 3A trophy.  Dare I say it...GO NEDERLAND!
 13.
Gasilla, you going to it?
Do mosquitos bite?  There will be plenty of WO-S grads who live in the Greater Houston area in attendance at this one.  I'm taking my future son-in-law because I want him to see what Mustang football is about.  I think I picked a good game to initiate him.  ;)
 14.
I agree. What's in red sums up what he ment. When we played Wemberley some of the Texan fans said the same. That if WO-S would have won they would have gone on to win state.
Yeah...that's what I was thinking, too.
 15.

I think the more these Nav fans talk the more pressure they put on their teams shoulders. They already have enough pressure going into this game.  Carrying the #1 ranking and trying to hold on to it is a lot. WO-S has absolutely nothing to lose and no pressure, they will be well prepared. I don't care who beat who by how many points on what night with whatever moon phase was happening, and who's friends with whos uncles cousins brothers mothers first husbands sister-in-law. This comes down to execution on offense, defense and special teams. I very much believe in the old saying.....Defense wins championships Defense will proves itself Friday night....
WOS has tons to lose...  Afterall, the entire state knowS about WOS's defense and the comparision that some you are making...  Act as if you don't think that WOS has anything to lose, we all know better than that.. Imagine this, Navasota beats WOS and that great defense... All those shutouts gone out the window because they lost to Navasota... THE PRESSURE IS ON!
Good job trying to deflect..but sorry, we are HUGE underdogs here. Everyone on your side even says so. The shutouts were for pride, nothing else. Pressure is squarely on the unbeatable, a team that should be us by at least 40 points, number 1 ranked team in the state, with a offense like the Houston Gamblers of old and a defense that would remind you of eleven combinations of tanks and lightening bolts. I will give Navasota props they have played two tough teams back-to-back. It's hard to maintain mental excellance for three weeks in a row. If they can they deserve to be in the storied annuals of Texas high school football. One thing people may be overlooking is conditioning. How much has the Navasota starters played the entire year when they were blowing people out? WOS players are used to going both ways for almost the entire game. Maybe Rattler fans can tell us how many times these boys played the full 48.
Enjoyed that Houston Gamblers reference.  That brought back some cool memories.
 16.
Im sure navasota has worked hard.. Cant really speak for your team dont know them personally only what ive seen some of your players post on twitter, but I do know ours and have watched them since middle school & these boys have what it takes to win.. I do believe it will be a close game but wos will come on top..  & to griff imo i do believe these boys deserve it & will prove it on the field Friday!!
Trust me...I want you to be right about that.
Griff, you could easily call the Enterprise about it if its that serious, trust me, in the past when i was in high school there was an article about one of my classmates and i actually went up to the PA News office and had a brief convo about it. 19. It's better to pick the TEAM who will win.

I've known Cornel for many years, as have my parents.  He is much too cautious of a man and coach to say, "This is the state championship game." I will put more stock in his careful nature about what he says to people and what I know about him (first hand) above sloppy journalism any day of the week.  Why won't you just stop riding this dead horse.  ::)

Or heck, even having a winning record.
Yeah i guess so, I'm just stating the obvious though this weekend will be a prime example of what I'm saying.
When you consistently win your district and go a few rounds deep in the playoffs, the word "choke" does not apply.  Also, not winning state every year does not qualify as "choke".  Pick a better word.  Now, two years ago when we lost in to an inferior Brookshire Royal team, that was a choke.  The Mustangs choking in the playoffs has been rare.  We've regularly finished as a top 5-10 team in the state since being a 3A team.  That's called "accomplished", not "choke."
So what you call y'all losing to that in 05' Beasley's senior yr? And if navasota get an easy win against y'all this weekend what will you call that? Your basically saying its ok to lose as long as you go three rounds deep in the playoffs every yr all that shows is that you can't compete with the best in the state...but like I said we shall see this weekend i hope you remember this thread cause I'll be sure to remind you of our convo Friday night
You don't read with comprehension, do you?  I was trying to help you understand that using the word "choke" is not accurate in describing our many consecutive years of winning district and making a 3-4 round playoff run.  You see...not winning a state title every year is not a choke.  If that's the standard you want to use, then 1) you need to consult a dictionary and 2) Ozen has been a "choke" team in basketball because they don't win the trophy every season.  As for the '05 season with Beasley at QB...the reason we lost is because Wimberley was the better team.  That's all there is to it.  There's no shame in admitting a team is better than yours when they are...and that, too, does not qualify as a "choke".  Wimberley was the best team in the state that year, and congratulations to them.  If Navasota wins "easily" (as you've described), then it will be noted that they were simply the better team.  Being ONE OF the best teams is still something to be proud of.  Get some perspective on this, please.
