  1. Most WO-S fans still consider Jasper a rivalry team. Hopefully, we'll change that schedule in the next realignment.
  2. Tyler has more breakaway ability, though he is not a really a speedster. He does a good job fighting for extra yards. Draper only runs straight ahead, but he is stronger and harder to tackle. If I was a defensive player, I would rather face Tyler. With all of that said, one is not clearly better than the other.
  3. The problem with LaGrange now, as it was then, is they don't have a strong supporting cast surrounding Dobbins.
  4. Rob, I know you've been friendly to WO-S over the years, but are you really proud of Vidor scoring three TDs in a scrimmage? The first one was a nice breakaway long run against first-teamers, but the other two were against a mix of JV players in the 2nd half...in a scrimmage. I'd like to see what would happen in a real game when the coaches are game planning, not auditioning players for positions and just trying to get reps. But, until Coach Matthews changes his mind... WO-S has seen so many slot-T football teams in the last five years that you would think it's the only offense known to man - BC, Vidor, Bellville, OF, HJ, etc. What I find interesting about the Kennedale squad is they use three backs who all have good speed. Not one of them is the brusing halfback type. Their offense looks just like BC, but the tailback speed will mean we have to be as quick as possible on reading their backfield. As for passing the ball, they leave much to be desired. One of their outside linebackers (#6 - Baron Browning) is considered the second highest rated outside linebackers in the nation. All in all, I think the 2015 Kennedale team was a little better, but they have a good pedigree and it's a good match for WO-S.
  5. At first, I was gritting my teeth at all of this "in honor of Skip" nonsense, but you three have actually made this one thread mildly funny. With that said, I hope you run out of positions soon.
  6. Mustang fans are anticipating a good game against Silsbee Friday night.
  7. Lol...yeah, I saw what you did over there, Chuck. Way to poke a hornet's nest...lol. The enthusiasm of a couple of WO-S followers doesn't even compare to that East Texas superiority complex they carry at smoaky. WOS36, listen...I'm a long time die hard WO-S fan, but all of this talk about shutting out every opponent is ridiculous and it has to stop. We WILL be scored on by more than one team. The competition will rise up in some of these games, especially in the playoffs. So, why not be happy about what really matters - WINNING the game and not shut outs. Put your passion into winning and not so much in "zero" style points.
  8. If it's played in Nederland and uses the Beaumont (mid-county) Chapter of refs, then I can agree with that outcome.
  9. Yup. A small sampling of WO-S fans made the trip. Scouting a possible future opponent and enjoying an entertaining game, as well.
  10. The Vidor scrimmage was a tougher test than the PNG one, but I think Vidor scored 19. Two of those TDs against a mix of 2nd teamers/JV players in the second half. A real game would have been worth it (hint...hint...Coach Matthews) rather than playing KIPP Northeast.
  11. Predicting shut outs is much harder than predicting wins and losses. Personally, I wish it would cease. As good as the Mustang D is, they will be scored on. Discussing that feat AFTER the fact is a better time to do that than predicting it will happen. Always respect your opponent. It will not surprise me to see it happen next week because Silsbee has some speed and playmakers. As fans, we should care more about getting the "W".
  12. Yes...and the next trigger of excuses...version 14.2.
  13. WO-S does not have a designated "super player." This fact made the team "unimpressive" to some Celina fans last year when we beat them in the state championship game. Too many fans are accustomed to seeing a dominant player with off the chart statistics leading a team to success, especially in HS football. The wording of your question confirms my point about that. WO-S plays a TEAM brand of football in every sense of that term. On offense, the ball is distributed around to multiple receivers and we rotate two tailbacks. On defense, our leading tackler varies from game to game. We have some college recruits on both sides of the ball, but not a single player that carries the team. Some might say Jack Dallas fits that description, but Jack's stats have been modest so far. In the first three games, WO-S has benefitted from good starting field position thanks to strong kickoff and punt returns. Also, our kicking game is improved. This is the most complete team WO-S has fielded in many years because all three phases of the game are in good shape. Future opponents will not be able to key on stopping a single offensive player or blocking one main player on defense. It's TEAM football.
  14. He had one long run on the final play before halftime that helped to pad those stats. He runs hard and is a load to tackle, but our D might have nodded off a little because BC went with a quick snap and the clock was almost to 00:00. He is easily the best weapon on their offense. BC will bounce back from this and it won't shock me if they win the district. The Newton and Silsbee matchups will be close games.
  15. Absolutely true. The excessive number of cops on the visitor's side and a particular incident a few years ago when one of our fans was escorted out just for being "too loud" prove your point.
  16. My thoughts exactly. He has to sit this game. However, to ban him for the entire season is not necessary. Suspend him Friday night and consider further punishment of other sorts (additional games of suspension and community service), but I'm for giving him the opportunity to learn from his stupidity and get a second chance at football. The player should also be put on a very short leash. Any offense like this or anything close to it and permanent banishment from the team is then warranted.
  17. Bingo, Rake! I had the same reaction remembering the line from that movie. I also thought of this reaction from "Fast Times At Ridgemont High". [Hidden Content]
