  1. WOSGrad has always been an all-around good guy. I've known him since high school. He's a good fit here as a moderator and a point man in making this site accessible and enjoyable for all SETX sports fans. It's a thankless job that requires more time than most people are aware of. Keep up the good work, Warden.
  2. That game went down as one of the most disappointing, unexpected, underachieving playoffs games in school history. We defeated BR handily in the two previous years. Our players were likely overconfident, but it was no excuse. Remember the fake punt at the 9 yard line? BR was a one-man team and poorly coached (tons of penalties), but we still found a way to lose that game. That one still bothers me to this day.
  3. Not true. If we drop use of the shotgun position, it will shrink our playbook and make our offense more predictable for defenses. We can go under center for some drives or consecutive plays, but if we do that the whole game it will limit our success. We have a good offensive threat when our QB has space to operate, run, make easy roll outs, and it gives him a better view of the opposing team's defense to make good decisions and reactions. That's a big reason why so many high school teams are now using it. I see value in going under center for only portions of a game. Our O-line and TBs can make the tough inside yardage.
  4. The solution is fixing the bad snaps technique, NOT going under center for an entire four quarters. It is fixable and that should be the focus.
  5. We can't do that for the entire game. It eliminates too many options.
  6. For the first time in forever, HJ had a QB who could throw. Two consecutive 30+ yarders including the first TD was impressive. Beyond that, they had the one breakaway run for a TD in the second half. That is the offensive game summary for HJ. The WO-S defense held them in check. However, this was easily the best HJ team we've seen since 2014. I noticed that Chaka went under center for the final drive. We might see more of this by necessity, but it is better that he be in shotgun. It's easier for him to read the defense and make quick decisions/reactions. The best case for us is to get the center snap FIXED and ASAP. If we don't, someone will knock us off in the playoffs.
  7. Understandable. The 4A and up schools in SETX don't want them.
  8. So, is the local chapter depleted in part because too many schools declined to use them?
  9. That will never happen on this forum. We all share the horrendous Beaumont chapter for a good portion of the games in SETX. As long as we're stuck with their level of officiating, legitimate complaints will abound.
  10. I did. That 46 yarder on us was impressive. I've also watched our kicker for two years who has been pretty dang good, too. But the Kennedale kicker had something a little extra over both of those boys.
  11. I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but it needs to be. The kicker for Kennedale is about the best HS kicker I've seen in years. That will be quite a weapon in close games. He was placekicking it into the end zone and had PLENTY of leg on their two FGs. Left footed, too. Does anyone know what college he's committed to?
  12. lostaussie, it's good to see you've found a comfortable home here at the setx. Here's to hoping I can show you to your seat in December.
  13. As I watched Tepper's monologue, I anticipated he would pick Kennedale. That seems to be the conventional wisdom from the sports media people. It's an even match up IMO. WO-S is up for the challenge, but it would not shock me if Kennedale gets the W.
  14. Silsbee deserves much respect for making this game interesting (and yes, it could have been REALLY interesting). I shake my head every time I see the blowout predictions by some of our fans. I am as die hard a WO-S blue and silver blood Mustang fan as anyone on this message board, but my goodness...you should ALWAYS respect your opponent. It does not matter what your past record is against any team. WO-S is a young team and more prone to making mistakes. The lack of practice time and missed games has also put the Ponies a little behind schedule. Then you have to consider that teams give us their best effort because everyone wants to knock off the team on top. Plus, we're talking about a group of teenagers, which should make everyone be more cautious going into a game like this. Good game, Silsbee. I wish the Tigers a deep run in the playoffs. I will be rooting for you.
  15. Neither team has practiced much and they have been out of their normal routines for nearly two weeks. We may see some sloppy play from both teams, but it will be exciting to finally see some Friday night action.
  16. They're not ALL saying that. I expect Nederland to make a game out of this. Many games across Texas have already been called off. Let's hope the rain clears up enough to play this one.
  17. Yes. You gotta love the enthusiasm shown by both fan bases. WO-S fans, especially those who have been around since (or near) the the school's first season in '77, have always enjoyed the opportunity to play PNG.
  18. As a WO-S fan, allow me to make this comment about PNG. I hope Faircloth will insist on working the running game and not use Roshon to "bail out" the offense too much. In other words, don't "Robert Griffin" your offense. Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan made the mistake of calling Griffin's number too much, which allowed for too much unnecessary contact and shortening his career. As good as Roshon is, work on the running game and passing game as much as possible and only use the QB to run as a last resort (if no one is open) or for an occasional designed play call. You want that kid to be fresh by the end of the season and for the playoffs. So, make the game plan work in favor of Roshon taking as few hits as possible. Save those QB scrambles and runs for the playoffs when you'll need it and opponents will not expect it. I enjoyed watching him last night. It's always good to see top notch talent like him come from the Golden Triangle. I'm not really a UT fan, but I'm rooting for that kid.
  19. Actually, the secondary did pretty well. A big reason why Roshon was running out of the pocket so much is that most of the time he had no open receiver to throw to. The coverage was good most of the night.
  20. Todd, that latest reply to pakronos was classic! Thanks for giving me a good laugh.
