  1. Well, Alabama's last five losses have come from teams names the Tigers - Clemson, Auburn, and LSU. I guess Silsbee would do the same. SMH... Silsbee winning playoff games in past years against WO-S has as much significance as Alabama's losses to Tiger teams. If Silsbee wins, it will have everything to do with outplaying the Mustangs. Nothing else. Three things going for WO-S... 1) Silsbee lost to WO-S a few weeks ago. Yeah...head to head match ups mean more than who beat common opponents by a bigger point spread. 2) Silsbee managed only one sustained drive against WO-S the whole game and was held to 7 points (meaningless safety on the game's final snap). The Chain Gang defense is doing it's thing. 3) WO-S' offense has improved since the first game. Finally getting several consecutive games in after weather interruptions and the bye week have lifted the offense's production and helped gain consistency. Some valuable JV call ups have contributed, too. Silsbee manages to beat WO-S only once every ten years. They met their quota last year. WO-S marches on.
  2. That was a disappointing game for WOS fans, even though we won it. Salado was never a threat to win. We shut down their offense, but we should have scored more. I think our players went into that game a little overconfident because we knew we could stop them. Our offense was just flat. Madisonville and Wimberley were both better than Salado.
  3. Yeah, did you see his player intro on tonight's SF vs. Green Bay game? Instead of giving his college affiliation, he pointed two fingers and said, "Emmanuel Sanders, Bellville, Texas" with a big smile. That has to be cool for the home folk.
  4. I noticed that about him in the two times WO-S has played Bellville.
  5. What's the big deal? Beaumont is not that far of a drive from Lumberton. Furthermore, the bigger question is why the heck did Barbay suggest Lake Charles?
  6. "Hope Barbay don't fall for that"...fall for what? Beaumont is a neutral site. Flipping for home and home is only good to serve the team who wins the flip. Keep it neutral. Playing at Texan Drive in New Caney would be fine. Wanting to play in Louisiana, which was suggested by Barbay last year, is insane.
  7. Silsbee's Achilles Heel is always defense. Every year.
  8. Not any longer, Grad. KSBJ Houston bought 99.9 FM a few months ago, so you won't hear a Liberty broadcast.
  9. We know they're still a top 10 team
  10. The big surprise is Jasper falling out of the top 10. I didn't think that one loss would send them down the elevator shaft.
  11. A few notes and suggestions gleaned from the game you worked last night: 1) Give the score more often. 2) Your color commentator's mic was off for a portion of the broadcast. His voice could only be heard through your mic. 3) Why was there a rooting interest for BC? Since that was the case (esp. with the color analyst), it's better to make that clear from the start. Come out and say you're there for the "home town" BC Cardinals or whoever the team is you're representing. If this is NOT the case, then try harder to be an evenly sided observer in the commentary and reactions to the game. I lost count how many times the color guy said "that was a big hit by (BC player every time)." There was an obvious "BC fan" view from the booth. I enjoy having Texan Live as a audio and video option to not being at the games in person. So, for that, thank you for offering this service. Think of the phrase "we treat you better" when doing the broadcasts. 😉
  12. I'm not at all shocked by this loss. Newton was emotionally spent after playing WO-S last week. I've heard some of their fans say many times over the years that beating WO-S is as good to them as winning state. The leftover effect was working against Newton tonight. Nevertheless, nice win for Gilmer. They look much improved.
  13. That strategy would have helped greatly in the Cuero game last year.
  14. That slant route was a great play call because it was a play action using their best running play formation, then throwing to the opposite side into the slot and it nearly worked, but #40 from WO-S deflected the ball. I'm sure you'll see that one break a few big plays for Ned in future games. In last year's game, both Ned and WO-S looked like average teams IMO. Much improvement for both teams at the starting point this time around. That was a playoff-like quality game.
  15. Agree on all points. WO-S' three turnovers nearly cost us the game, but the way they hung in and came back in the 4th after giving up the lead showed guts. If they had not taken a knee and run out the clock at the end (which was the right thing to do), I think WO-S scores again. Many good signs for the Mustangs going forward. The Chain Gang is back to the level of play that dropped off some last year, our QB showed patience and accuracy, the receiving corps had better hands than what showed in the scrimmages, the O-line shined, and how about the kicking game? Wow. Two of WO-S' rotating tailbacks were not suited up, so Gales (#41) carried a heavy load going both ways and still getting 100+ yards rushing. That young man does not go down easy. Only a sophomore. I expected a hard fought game because after all this was Nederland, it was at their place, and what I saw in their scrimmages impressed me. This was one of the better Nederland teams we've seen in a good while. We've seen Vidor, PNG, and Nederland up close and Nederland looks the best of the three. The running game will carry them and their passing looks decent enough to give them a good balance. Their D was good, as well. I'm glad Ned is getting turf. That field was a sloppy mess before the game even started.
  16. The school board agreed to not have Fedora back without any stated reason. I've wondered if Fedora was willing to walk away without any stink made by him and the community because he saw what was coming through the pipeline. Maybe he knew Navasota would have some weak teams for a few years and he got out while he could with a successful track record intact.
  17. The 112% number is a tribute to the late WO-S QB Reggie Garrett.
  18. Last year was the weakest senior class WO-S has fielded since the '94 season. The Mustangs are at a better starting point now than the same time last season. The players all showed up in shape from the summer and the attitude is much improved. Nederland presents a strong challenge because of the balanced approach of their offense. WO-S faces so many slot-T teams that it's nauseating. This game will better prepare us for future games against Silsbee, Jasper, and teams in the playoffs who like to mix it up.
  19. Did you formerly use the name 89falcon?
  20. Sure. No one was attempting to compare the two match ups/rivalries. WO-S has existed only since 1977. The truth is WO-S has never had a consistent one team rivalry in the entire existence of the school. In the earliest years, it was PNG. Some would say LCM, but the fact they are our neighboring school doesn't do enough for that one. LCM has barely shown up in the win column. A few folks might say Vidor, but most WO-S fans didn't view Vidor in that light. In order to be a rivalry, fans from both schools have to see it as a rivalry. That is definitely the case with WO-S and Jasper.
