  1. Don't lump all WO-S fans into that thinking. Nederland has always been a good match up for us. I stated earlier this game would be decided by a small point margin. You can't get smaller than one point. Too many WO-S fans have been spoiled. Some of our followers can't appreciate the process of developing a young team into a district winner and serious playoff contender. No matter how good your program and regardless of past success, any team can find themselves in the position where WO-S is right now. Our development stages are behind the normal timelines because most of these guys are playing varsity for the first time. WO-S's roster is loaded with sophomores and juniors. They need more time to get to where they want to be. I believe this includes that the coaches are still deciding on players and their positions. We're also missing our best player. Fans need to be patient. All in all, WO-S showed progress since the Vidor scrimmage. Nederland won the game and there is no shame in that. Congratulations Bulldogs. See you again next year.
  2. Nederland has my respect. Always has. I'm expecting a battle. Whoever wins will do so by a small point spread.
  3. To say WO-S might (or even WILL) lose a game is not being a coward. Guaranteeing a win in every game is nuts. There are always a few fans who don't give the right amount of respect for opponents. They are the ones who will 1) make crazy and excessive excuses when they lose and 2) talk down about the winning team when they should be congratulating them. Did you watch the Vidor scrimmage? This Mustang team is YOUNG and not as far along as previous teams at this point heading into week #1. We have only three returning starters on offense and three on defense. Come down to earth and realize we have some work to do in preparing this team right now. A little appreciation for the development process is called for.
  4. OK, then why are you even reading this thread? If district means nothing, then pre-district, playoffs, and obviously scrimmages are a waste of time, too. Check back in mid-December to see if we made it to AT&T that you take for granted. After all, the journey to get there means nothing and you have your room reservation in Dallas, right? For the rest of us, we'll enjoy football SEASON with the Mustangs and assume nothing. Our young team has much work to do.
  5. Also our starting tailback twisted his ankle on the 2nd series and never returned. It would have looked better with him in there.
  6. I'm a bit surprised that Cuero has not been #1 in any polls. They have probably the best player in 4AD2 returning (Whittington), as well as two proven tailbacks. I hear some of their fans saying they have a better passing QB this year, too.
  7. I have no dog in this fight, but...you're welcome. You've been more than kind toward us for years. After all the time he spent talking about the cupcake schedule (which includes his team), I just had to chime in. Not only is this cupcake soft, it's also red VELVET cake with the matching school colors.
  8. Yeah. Who can blame PNG for beating teams on their cupcake schedule.
  9. Yes, I'm more than content to wait on the regular season. Any comparison to Golden State is silly. Everybody already knows the Warriors are the best in the NBA before the season starts. WO-S is not a lock to get the trophy and still has much work to do despite the DCTF #1 ranking. If this was the 2016 WO-S team, then I would share your assurance. This is the 2018 team with several question marks. The entire journey is what makes a season and no trip to Dallas is guaranteed. Also, nothing I said is "hyped up". When someone says they are booking their rooms in Dallas...THAT is hype. I have too much respect for our opponents and all the work ahead for our coaches and players to assume the ultimate prize. If we don't win it all, you will be full of blame and excuses. I won't. Instead I will remember this conversation and remind you not to assume so much. Try to enjoy the journey. The finish line is too far off in the distance to see right now.
  10. We (WO-S) are a work in progress. This "early walk through" talk is so premature. Why not wait to start this conversation AFTER we've accomplished some business on the field? I just want to see how we make it through the our brutal pre-district schedule. I'm sure the coaches have a mutual feeling.
  11. It's interesting how zero WO-S fans have joined this discussion. It's a yawner. To the few Silsbee folks and the one "East Texas is superior" contributor who want to pat themselves on the back for finding a phantom "one-ups-manship" over WO-S...carry on. It's mildly entertaining. Symptoms of summertime boredom.
  12. If this passes, you will see a direct result of fewer players participating in high school football, which will also mean less California kids playing college ball. Cali is typically among the three top states at producing D1 players (along with TX & FL). They will certainly drop out of the top three over time.
  13. Lol...you lost the sarcasm in my comment, but that's OK. Playing Newton would be good competition for both teams, but it won't bother me at all if we don't play Newton. W.T could have handled this better. Has Newton tried calling KIPP?
  14. So...you're saying that Newton will have another super good team again in 11 years? And then it will be OK to schedule WO-S again? OK...lol.
  15. "Heard" he did it at smoaky? You didn't peek in to see for yourself? I don't blame you at all, Mike. Too much juvenile delinquency. Not one adult in the room over there.
  16. He must be thinking of the '86 team when we defeated Aldine MacArthur when they were ranked #3 nationally. Maybe there was a time when we beat the #1 and #2 teams in the STATE (but I doubt it), but never #1 and #2 nationally. Hyper-speak strikes again.
  17. It did factor into Crosby's decision to say "yes." Coach Thompson liked the idea of playing on turf two straight years.
  18. You gotta lot of negative nerve posting this. WT said he did not want to play WO-S when Jack Dallas was there, but now he's itching to play? How much is your commission check for peddling this "story"? Amateur journalism at its finest. WO-S knows all too well the difficulty of scheduling teams in non-district. WT should have stayed on the schedule when he easily could have. It's no surprise if Coach Thompson says no this time. Good for him. Playing WO-S when you have the convenience of being competitive and declining to play outside of that is not how this works. BTW...WO-S has weeks 4 and 5 filled. Only week 3 is open.
  19. No one should insist on a parade. The city and community can show appreciation for WO-S in other ways, but a parade is an honor reserved for WINNING the championship.
  20. The year we lost to Gilmer added even more fire to the drive for winning another one - among the players. We have two good QBs making their way through the varsity ranks, as well as several play makers who are underclassmen. The future looks good. The work starts in two weeks.
  21. It's never easy to take a loss this far into the season, but when it's obvious the opposing team outplayed you, the inevitable reaction is to tip your hat and acknowledge the better team won. You could take the time to dissect this game and look at ways that WO-S could have made the game closer or even won it. It was a winnable game, but ONLY if we would have played mistake-free football. For example - 1) overthrown passes in the first half (at least one would have been a TD); 2) play calling to include WR screens and more runs to the strong side and less between the tackles; 3) stopping PG from converting so many third downs; 4) penalties that cost WO-S a TD, a big 4th down conversion (fake punt), and long yardage situations; 5) blown coverage on PG's first play from scrimmage; 6) three turnovers (two pick 6's late)...those are some that I noticed. But, in the end PG earned the victory because they EXECUTED their offense and defense better than WO-S did. This year's version of WO-S football had a smaller margin for error, especially on the offensive side of the ball. We were able to make it this far despite that, but yesterday we ran into a team who was good enough to make us pay for it. It's also worth noting that PG had zero turnovers. I am a WO-S Mustang for life, but today was Pleasant Grove's day. Congratulations to the Hawks on earning your first state championship.
  22. Wear some blue and silver and come sit with us. This time, you will be on the correct side.
  23. At first glance of the "I Can Admit I Was Wrong" headline, I thought CardinalBacker's explanation would be... "Silsbee does NOT suck." I can admit...I was wrong, too.
  24. You've made many good points until this little bone was thrown out there. In any community, there will always be malcontents who are never happy. If you are saying WO-S has a FEW of those just like every other school, you are correct. If you're saying WO-S is loaded up with people like that, you are mistaken.
