  1. Someone needs to go ahead and do some research of old annuals in the library at VHS. With their awesome new field, they need to post their past accomplishments somewhere. I had forgotten that only the top team used to make to post season, that really is quite an accomplishment when you think about it, I wonder how many teams were in a typical district in the 60's and 70's.
  2. I am also suprised WB is not on the state poll. I think they will do well in the post season. Best of luck, Bruins.
  3. Have any of the play-off series been changed yet due to the forecast or is it all still wait and see?
  4. So if they have been to the play-offs before, why all of the hype? Just kidding, everyone deserves a play-off run every 40 years or so That is interesting that no one pointed this out before today.
  5. I'm pulling for the Hawks. They really locked in on their goal to make the play-offs and made it happen in a very tough 3A district. Best of luck!
  6. Congratulations! It is great that they will get to continue at the next level, especially with a former high school teammate!
  7. Glad to hear Jaylon is making big plans for the weekend! Always a good sign! We continue to pray for his speedy recovery!
  8. Hicks is a great competitor and faced some top teams in the district this season. If you discount him because he is a freshman, you might get caught off-guard. Best of luck to the Cards on their play-off run.
  9. Don't know much about Huffman, but I'm pulling for the Indians.
  10. From what I hear, they threw three different pitchers in the nearly five innings, as they always do when they play tune up games. It is treated much like a scrimmage, a way to let as many in the pitching rotation get some work in. I can assure you Woodville will be facing the best pitching your opponent has to offer in the play-offs, so you might want to focus on that rather than the potential outcome of a tune-up game, which none of us will ever know thanks to mother nature. Best of luck to your team, I hope you make it deep into the play-offs.
  11. Very well said. I agree 100%. And while we are at it, props to Coach Stevenson as well, couldn't ask for a better assistant coach. The Dynamic Duo indeed.
  12. Too many cinderella stories this year to decide on just one coach who is most deserving of this title. I know within each district the coach of the #1 team is named Coach of the Year, deservedly so. On this site if only one is to be named out of all of these coaches, I guess you would have to look at the type of competition faced in their respective district, overall season record, district record, how many returning starters they had to work with, pre-season predictions on how their team would do, etc. All of the ones named thus far have got to be front runners for this title. It would require some work on one of the administrator/moderator's parts, but I would like to see some of this information laid out for people to review before placing their vote. As of now, just looks like whatever team you are rooting for is the coach you will vote for, which I am trying to keep from doing before placing my vote (cough, cough, Griff, cough)...
  13. I agree with the last several posts. MikeO and the pirates have got to be feeling some serious pressure at this point and are trying to get into the head of a great hitter. I certainly like LCM in this match-up, but even if it doesn't go their way, they are still in and are at the very least co-district champs. Vidor on the other hand has to pull off a win against LCM or face a do-or die scenario on Saturday against the very hungry Dogs. I don't envy Vidor's coaching staff at this point. Do you throw your best at LCM and pray you pull off the win with the chance you don't? Then you have to face Nederlands #1 on Saturday with someone further down in your rotation. You lose, you go home. I think the LCM/Vidor results will come down to who is feeling the most pressure, it can really get to kids and affect their play. MikeO knows this, but even his very negative post does not balance the scale here as far as who needs this win the most. As far as Rowell goes, he knows plenty about pressure. Team captain of the Bears and sole returning starter. He is a great leader and example to this very young group of kids.
  14. I think in the past if two teams share the district champion title, it goes in the books as such, but then it is up to the coaches to determine who takes which bracket in the post season. I know PNG and LCM have had a game before to determine which team took which place in the bracket, but the winner did not become sole owner of the title of district champions. That has been a few years, it is possible things have changed since then.
  15. Nope-you are telling them not to slack off just because they are seniors, there will always be someone trying to take your spot if you are not willing to work hard enough to keep it. I have seen senioritis get the best of many teams. When there are some young talented kids waiting in the wings for an opportunity to play, it tends to keep the seniors focused on the task at hand. I am not saying a 2 or three year starter should be benched because there is a talented underclassman taking their spot. The scenario I have in mind with this question is, you have a senior that has played jv up until his senior year when he is automatically on varsity. Just because he is automatically on varsity does not mean he deserves the starting position if there is a young athlete of equal talent that will be back a few more seasons to benefit the program in the future.
  16. I have to disagree. Playing the underclassman benefits the PROGRAM, not just the coach. Shadow made a very good point, there is no lesson here for the senior or the underclassman as to how you earn things in the real world if the decision is made solely on your classification. You sat the bench your senior year because someone outworked you for your position? Such is life.
  17. Jeremy Green at Grand Slam in Orange is excellent.
  18. In response to your request for a prediction, VPride, I have observed that the majority of predictions on this board are based on who you want to win, rather than who will most likely win according to how they are doing as a team at that point in the season, so why bother? I predict it will be a great game, hows that?
  19. I think your coaches may disagree with you, vpride. My guess is they are busy focusing on holding on to a spot in the top three with Dayton and Nederland nipping at your heels. Besides, if I am looking at the numbers correctly, LCM will at least be "co-district" champions with a win tonight (Lumberton). According to some other threads, looks like Ozen would enjoy doing a little spoiling of their own tonight. Might want to focus on one game at a time. Best of luck to all.
  20. I think you need a little more information before giving a definate answer to that question. If there is such a thing as two players with the EXACT same skills, I guess it would come down to who is working the hardest to be in the line up. Who has the best attitude? If you still cant make a decision and the two are still equally matched I couldn't blame a coach that would start the underclassman, especially if he has a team full of seniors and a bunch of young players coming up next year. That talented underclassman could use the varsity experience. Too many possible scenarios here. I'd have to leave that decision to the coach, that is why they pay him the big bucks.
  21. You got me on a technicality there. Hearn was a starter at PNG before moving to LC-M. Should have worded it, "One returning Bear starter". What a great addition he has been! Fun to watch. He and Jon Gunn work well together in the middle infield.
