  1. I think the teams you are referring to might disagree. One of them won the tourny last year. Thanks hfaninthestands, very well said.
  2. If you don't throw them at all, the chances of being injured from throwing a weighted ball goes down to zero. I like those odds.
  3. Huge can of worms indeed. Most medical professionals advise against weighted balls regardless of the season for kids under age 17.
  4. So I am getting old and my memory is failing, my point remains the same. I do, however, remember Dan Fletcher (who doesn't?) BC did not make the playoffs in 4A Dan Fletchers senior year under Coach Sam Moore, or under Coach Jones his soph. or junior year. My point remains, BC struggled in 4A with a flame thrower that was drafted out of high school. He graduates, BC moves to 3A and low and behold, they have not looked back.
  5. Sorry, I should have been more specific. They struggled in the mid to late 90's under Coach Moore (no disrespect to him whatsoever) with a great pitcher like Dan Fletcher could not make the post season-and then with coach Moore they move down to 3A and make the play-offs and have done great since under Coach Bryant as well. They are certainly a 3A powerhouse since changing classification. My post regarding BC has never been meant to disrespect, only to make a point of the consistency of LCM which in my opinion validates them as front runner in the front page poll.
  6. If you are referrring to my post stating BC did not make the play-offs in 4A when they had Dan Fletcher I am not referring to the State Tourney, I am referring to the post season. They were not in the top three in their district, so did not make a play-off run in any way during any year he was their #1 pitcher in 4A, and he was drafted out of high school. Fletcher graduates, BC moves down to 3A and they have done well.
  7. I don't think anyone is trashing BC, but give some "other" teams some credit on the pole. I don't understand why Bridge City wasn't listed as an individual candidate on the pole either, but I have to agree that fans from other schools are reading the choices, not seeing "their team" and voting under other. Bridge City was great under Chuck Young. In 4A they struggled, even with Dan Fletcher (you remember him I'm sure) on the hill, they didn't make the play-offs. But I will give them credit, now that they are down in 3A, they have been a big fish in a smaller pond so to speak and they do shine.
  8. ::)uhhh.....for years they were in the same district, until BC went down to 3A. It really has not been that long ago.
  9. If you are going to argue who won or lost as far back as the 70's and early 80's, we would need to be sure to include Thomas Jefferson High School's baseball program in this poll, they won the whole enchalada somewhere in there. I think it is difficult to look back that far when discussing who has the best overall program today. That can certainly change from one decade to the next and as I stated in the previous post takes into account much more than the past one or two seasons. Consistancy in success over 10 or so years is what I consider to be the deciding factor on a strong program... post season play off depth, players that went on to play college ball (it would be interesting to see how many even made it to the professional level, however, by that time, it is natural talent over what you gained from the quality of your high school and college program).
  10. I have to disagree with you, Play-ball. Bridge City is loaded with talent year in and year out. But - I have to agree with the poll results thus far, LCM has enjoyed more success over the years, even those seasons after "graduating the house" they seem to find a way to make it to the post season, often deep into the play-offs. It would be interesting to see the numbers over the last 10-12 years of the local program's successes that are listed in this poll (but I agree, Bridge City should have been named individually, not as a part of the "other" category, which could include lots of local teams when people are voting on the subject). How many head coaches have each of these teams had, how many post season appearances and how far into the post season, etc to see if the results of this poll hold up. I would also like to see how many of those teams saw players continue on to the next level, etc. To me, all of those factors make a program worthy of the honor of being "the best of the best".
  11. Sideliner05-sorry about my previous post about the benefits of the new coach spending time in the community of Rusk. I guess if you live there, you don't make statements like, "If that @#$! parent doesn't quit stalking me because I won't play his kid in the position he has played all 9 years of little league, I'm gonna have to check into Rusk!" I'm sure that is very politically incorrect and did not mean to offend. I know it is a great community and that it has much more to offer than the state mental hospital. I wish the new coach the best of luck at Lumberton.
  12. Judging by the posts by some lumberton players and parents, I think it will be of benefit to the new coach to have spent some time in the community of RUSK before coming to lumberton. Best of luck to you, sounds like you will need it!
  13. If I remember correctly, they will take walk-ups, but prefer to have the kids pre-register in order to have an idea of what shirt size to order.
  14. Congrats! Great kid, well deserved honor! Best of luck taking the cards all the way to state!
  15. I think he does. I didn't see him mention that Brenham swept "duhBears" of Montgomery in the 18-4A district, funny how trash talkers leave that type of information out.
  16. Next season will be a great chance for Coach Bryant to prove what he has got as a coach. I agree, this year people think it is a no-brainer, anyone can win with Angelle, but next year if BC is successful, he will finally be able to take some credit.
  17. No, but I should probably be working. As a casual fan, I wouldn't either, and didn't when my kid was playing for him. As a friend for many years, I have no reservations asking, as he has none in answering. I always wish him good luck.
  18. You, a smarta$$??? I'm astounded. Actually, if your kids played for him and you are lucky enough to get to know him on a personal level, you have a friend for life. If you question Griff's line of thinking on baseball, you can just ask him and he will give you the straight up answer. I guess that is how people know about the scouting reports.
  19. Brenham is #1 in the state, and I believe the most recent national rankings they are at #5.
  20. Ehlert pitched a complete game on saturday, Womack was fresh. The Womack start and Ehlert close has been very successful throughout the season, I think that is the obvious reason he chose them in the order he did. Plus, as someone else has previously mentioned, Brenham has a little more trouble hitting the lefties and Womack is a lefty. I believe Brenham is #5 in the nation, I think a one run game against a team of this caliber is nothing to hang your heads over. Great season bears!
  21. Sorry, you or she must have me mistaken for someone that knows something about nomex. I'm a white collar cotton blend, myself. No nomex in the wardrobe.
  22. :scratch Not following you on that one, but she's pretty cute.
