  1. Back before the war..;-).... when I was at Lamar there was an elective class in officiating. Coach John Payton taught it and did an excellent job. The students choosing to pursue it were able to begin refereeing sub-varsity games.  Several moved up in a year or two.  Some good referees came out of this while some others tried it and chose not to continue, they learned new respect for the job.  A good idea to try again maybe.

In the second quarter, the BC rb ran out of bounds with 45 seconds left.  Clock mysteriously kept running untill it was to 20 seconds.  Clock is supposed to stop when out of bounds, right?  Refs huddle, come back, and no extra time on the clock.  But on that same drive, silsbee get a holding call with 0 seconds left, but you DO put 1 second back on the clock...  Smh

The runner was whistled down when he was held up in bounds.  When the whistle blew, he was released and then ran out of bounds.  It was confusing, though.....  Great game!

  3. Honestly, I don't think it is anyone else's business as to the severity of the punishment.  That is between the Celina coaches, administration, and the good folks of Celina.  They KNOW that this is a reflection on their school and program.  As for scholarships, the colleges will know and decide if the revelation of this young man's character would warrant extending a scholarship offer or not.  The sad part is the deciding factor will be how "good" he is projected to be.   Heck, some college coaches may like a shady renegade.

  4. I hope the Superintendent of Barbers Hill ISD has learned the perils of social media.  That being said, I hope none of the BHISD students are ever held accountable by the administration for any social media posts they make.  As a retired teacher/coach, my 8th graders were constantly warned of writing/typing/posting anything they would not want the whole world to see (including their future children!)  If the BH ISD board lets this ride, it is on them.  Kudos to the BH Drum Major!  She represents the district very well with class.  Too many good folks over there to be led by a hair-trigger sup.

  5. Keep in mind that all of this is the result of the Livingston Lions screwing up the UIL numbers.  It has affected MANY schools as schedules were arranged and had to be rearranged.  22-5A had to completely adjust their schedules as did 10-4A.  Not that we are bitter, but here is hoping that our friends in 22-5A donkey stomp the Lions......... every week........  There..... I feel better now.

Who keeps the official pitch count in little league?

In our Little League, the home team provides the official scorer while the visiting team provides the scoreboard operator/pitch counter.  Our new scoreboards had the pitch count on the board.  I feel that the impetus behind this move has the heart in the right place, but the head not so much.  I think Coach Landry correctly made to comparison to the seat belts on buses.  Good idea in theory but you won't find many bus drivers finding it a good idea.  Goes to the enforcement. Who checks to see if 50 seat belts are properly used?  But I digress.......

  7. The Rockets are a solid ball club.  The two pitchers were effective with an umpire's very tight strike zone.  Top of the batting order can flat-out hit. The number 4 hitter is a monster (I think he is committed to Texas A&M). They play smart.   Defense is their strength.  They will not beat themselves.  That being said, the Bears seem to have captured "lightning in a bottle" these past few weeks!  Good luck to the Bears of 24-AAAA !!!
