  1. Is posted on YouTube.com 8). Put "Chuck Young" in the search box. His speech is in 3 segments.
  2. Wesley Munlin won state in 4A singles in 1979(?) He was a Jr. that year from Bridge City. He returned to the finals his Sr. year but lost in the finals in 1980.
  3. I too am a LU graduate and remember the fluctuation of support in the 70's and 80's. I think the die had been cast with attitudes toward Lamar and the football program at that time due to years of neglect of local high schools. The high school coaches in those days often encouraged their athletes to bypass Lamar because the way previous Golden Triangle players were treated. I am sure that some of those attitudes were not accurate but as we know, perception becomes reality. There was a lack of local players on the field. I know that LU would have a new opportunity to create an environment of "community" that would result it solid support, whether it be measured by money or butts in the stands. One thing that isn't talked about is the opportunity to rebuild a great Lamar Marching band. Dr. Simmons was the band director while I was in school and his bands were superb! I never paid much attention to bands as I was a football guy, but those bands were huge and excellent! The music program suffered when there was no more marching band. If they kick-off football at Lamar, count me as first in line to buy several season tickets. ;D
  4. Good idea, but I doubt that Coach Hooks would want to build a collegiate program at his age. Coach Hooks was an assistant at Lamar before he went to WOS as defensive coordinator. Good choice, bad timing for Lamar today.
  5. At the WOS/Giddings game, it was a spot foul on the pass interference. The referees conferred and concluded that either way, half the distance to the goal or the spot of the foul would have been the same spot. So it did look as you described.
  6. C4L! Here is my old pal from the days of "the pig"! Good to see that you can still stir it up with the best of them! Sorry they couldn't have made it double-header at Stallworth so you could see your second-favorite team........PN-G! Good to see you posting over this way. I would say good luck, but I have to pull for my triangle homies!! ;D
  7. I doubt that Dayton will stay in this district long enough to form a true rivalry. The geography of the two schools is not conducive to a "natural" rivalry. No doubt if Lumberton can continue it's winning ways, a new rivalry will form within the Triangle area. There isn't really a "natural" rivalry for the Raiders since Silsbee is 3A. Rivalries have a tendency to emerge anytime a school shows some success.
  8. PN-G - Galena Park on Friday WOS - Coldspring on Saturday
  9. 21-AAA should do well this week. Good luck to the Mustangs, Wildcats, and Bulldogs!!! Here is hoping that all three go deep in the playoffs. ;D
  10. I think a million $ would take care of cheater and his softball field! ............. I understand he will have a grill and fridge in the home dugout. Necessities, he says! ;D
  11. I have no idea who will win this game but if I could pick any game to attend Friday night, this would be the one! I don't even care who wins but I love to watch a game with everything on the line for both teams. Good luck to the Raiders and Dogs and may the best team win!! ;D
  12. From KOGT.com Proposition 2 to install artificial turf had 418 votes "for" and 742 votes "against." Looks like there should have been an early voting box last Friday night at Dan Hooks Stadium. I am a bit surprised that there were only 418 "for" votes. This is nearly a 2-to-1 margin. Meanwhile, the other bond issue passes. ??? Where/why the discontent? As a West Orange High graduate, I am curious to hear what Mustang fans' theories might be. I'm sure there are other folks scratching their heads about this one. :-\
  13. Great job, Lady Cardinals!!! Good luck at Regional on Friday and Saturday!!!!! 8)
  14. I understand that the 4-A/5-A cutoff is Highland Park plus one........
  15. ;D Proud of my OC boys!! Never any doubt about the outcome as my boys always figure a way to win. Glad no one is seriously injured. I'm sure there will be a lot of guys walking funny for a few more days. I will return to the gridiron as soon as we get an "Over 50" game! Maybe next year it can be a "pay-per-view" event.
  16. The OC boys will handle it again. I can remain in retirement knowing that gasilla will take care of my boys. You fellows be careful and don't break that new scoreboard over there! 8)
  17. stangchain - I can tell you that the merger of West Orange High and Stark High was not popular among anybody except the school board! Talk about a hot Friday night.........Stark vs. West Orange!!! (Tigers and Chiefs for those still wet behind the ears ;D) ..........you were right, this needs it's own thread! an old West Orange Chief! Purple Power, Pride!
  18. Thanks for the in-depth run down, WOS87! I was trying to think of the playoff possibilities earlier this week and only got a headache out of it! ;D I know that Dan Ray would love to get that D-I spot and I personally would like to see them get it. There is still plenty of excitement before this is all hashed out.
  19. BC has one returning starter from last year. Patrick Carlton the center. BC knew that this was going to be a tough year, but we were hoping to pull out a few wins. Hasn't happened so far. Coach Stump has not given up on this team and neither have they.
  20. Just curious..........where do you think BC is hiding that "lot of talent"? The talent there is being used. Most of it is very young and inexperienced. These kids and coaches are busting their tails and will get better.
  21. That's right Gasilla! I played in that game and I was awesome...........I think :-\
  22. Ah, tvc, you missed the sarcasm there..........
  23. No coach in his (or her) right mind would consider answering on this or any forum. Why would they want to help build their own gallows? I understand the curiosity and even well-intentioned idea of such an endeavor but there would be absolutely no reason a coach would or should subject themselves and their program to anonymous scrutiny. Second-guessers are always going to be around regardless of how much explaining the coaches do. I can really picture Dan Hooks or Larry Neuman explaining to their fans OR their opponents why they make decisions as they do. ;D With that being said, you might be able to con a coach or two to answer some pre-screened questions during the off-season. They would have to be pretty bored, though! NOW, if the coaches could also answer anonymously, you could get some candid answers with real insight to the mind of the guys on the sidelines on Friday nights.
  24. Anytime the UIL gets into changing anything.............follow the money :. One way to reduce the number difference in classifications is to add the 6A division. Playoffs have been watered down since the expansion from the top two teams advancing. The only place everyone should be a winner is the Special Olympics. The UIL continues to cheapen the accomplishment of the playoffs.
