  1. Don't Mess With Texas and certainly Don't Mess with Texas High School Football! ;D
  2. Now you folks should give the coach his just credit. He has done something that no one has done in 30 years. He has united the fan base of WOS and LCM!!! It warms my heart to see the 'Stangs and Bears holding hands in a circle around Dan Hooks Stadium!!! ;D
  3. Well as you can see, he is not really scared of WOS, it is BC that terrifies him!!! ;D They obviously need two weeks to prepare for a team that was 0-10 last year!! The real pressure on him will be the next week at Bridge City when the entire Golden Triangle will be watching and hoping for the 3A Cardinals to put it on him. He will have a lot more trouble explaining a loss to the Cards than a loss to the Mustangs! The kids and good people of LC-M deserve better and they will no doubt express their feelings to the powers that be in Bear country. ;D
  4. KOGT says: BC hosts Kountze Saturday night at 6pm
  5. Rescheduled for Monday. Word is that 9th and JV will scrimmage simultaneously at 9AM then Varsity at 10AM.
  6. I have a problem with the "PC" police nationwide that insist on everyone sanitize our history and bend over backwards to not offend often ultra-sensitive people. We have the "Fighting Irish", no problem there. The "Ragin' Cajuns" don't seem to have anyone upset. Now if the mascot brings derision and ridicule to a group or individual, there is a problem. Now comes the case of PN-G (who I have kidded my PN-G pals of being akin to a cult!) . I have never seen their Indian mascot portrayed with anything but dignity and respect by the purple nation. I, being a White guy, would have no problem with any team called the "Crackers" or "Honkies" although I am not sure why anyone would choose such an antiseptic mascot!! Let each school or team decide their own mascot. If people within their group have a problem with it, let them be heard among their team.
  7. I believe Coach Mahaffey is 52 or 53. Oh, .........and don't doubt his baseball coaching credentials. He is bona fide!!!! Good luck, Wayne!!!! 8)
  8. Chad is a big boy and he will handle the politics quite well. Small town politics are the same everywhere, it just depends on what sport or program is viewed as being a bit higher profile. Let's see......Chad played at Nederland (high profile sport), Texas Tech (Big 12 big time), coached an steadily improving H-F Longhorn program, literally building the field! Yep, he will do just fine.
  9. H-F has very good assistant baseball coaches that definately could have done a great job. Jason Keeney is one I know well and he will be a head baseball coach someday probably sooner than later. I will not get into the discussion of how H-F selects their staff. That being said, Wayne Mehaffey IS a baseball guy. He will do a great job with the baseball program and football as well. H-F made a wise move to fortify their athletic department.
  10. Congratulations, Jadon! You will represent yourself, family, and Bridge City well in the Blue and Gold of McNeese! 8)
  11. I don't really care if we "loose" or not. As long as we don't "lose"!
  12. The DH is a great rule for high school and college as it allows more players to participate. At the Major League level they should not have a DH although I would agree with CircleChange in allowing a courtesy runner for pitchers that reach base.
  13. Congratulations Casey! You are one of my all time Cardinal players both on and off the field! A class young man that makes us all proud! 8)
  14. [glow=red,2,300][/glow]Cardinals Win!!!! Final 8-1. 2pm tomorrow for the rubber match!![glow=red,2,300][/glow]
  15. 8 - 1 BC in the top of the 7th! Thanks for the benefit of the doubt about my age j_dog!!!
  16. 8 - 1 Cardinals in top of 6th! I made the game last night, J_dog, but have grandson duty tonight!
  17. perhaps because his son served as a courtesy runner several times.
  18. I'll take HJ in this one let's say........6-4 8)
  19. Bridge City won the Boys Team Championship by edging out Hamshire-Fannett. Kirbyville won the Girls Team Championship. Orangefield was 2nd in the Girls Team points. Advancing to Regional in Bryan on April 21-22 will be: Boys Singles - Matthew Deaver/Silsbee and Tyler Angelle/Orangefield. Boys Doubles - Cole Atkinson/Lane Tippett/Kirbyville and Terry Affolter/Nolan Nix/Ham-Fan. Mixed Doubles - Shanita Maceda/Devon Armstrong/Bridge City and Katelyn Reynolds/Kegan Duplechin/Bridge City[Girls Singles - Erin Kelley/Orangefield and Meredith Miller/Bridge City. Girls Doubles - Jessica Barefield/Rachel Jones/Kirbyville and Brittany Burrell/Rachel Easley/Silsbee Good Luck District 21-AAA !!!
  20. Meredith Miller of BC has defeated Landry of K'Ville two times this year. All three of the top girls are a threat to win it all.
  21. Great job, Cardinals!!! 8) Casey's two blasts really opened up the game. Matt pitched well and worked out of a couple of potential jams. I hope the Tiger that smashed into the fence on Casey's second homer is okay. The fence was cleary bent in right center.
  22. Sooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
  23. I listened to Dr. Simmons a few weeks back on KLVI. He said that the year after football was dropped, so did enrollment at LU......by 2,000 students. That resulted in a $12,000,000.00 drop in academic funding from the state of Texas. This is not money that would go to the athletic department. It hurt every student at Lamar. Now we didn't have 2,000 football players that moved away, but you must include a world-class marching band that marched 350 (largest in the nation!) back in the 70's, Pep squad, and cheerleaders plus many students that wanted that "atmosphere" provided in the fall by a football program. The atmosphere and leadership at Lamar 20 years ago is very different from 2008. Dr. Simmons has put together a fantastic group of leaders who have methodically given Lamar a physical and psychological "facelift". By the way, Dr. Jimmy Simmons was the director of that superb marching band so he has a vested interest as the new band will not only attract new students but many new music majors as well. Count me as one that will be in the first line to buy season-tickets. Go LU!! ;D P.S. - if you are an old-time Lamar grad like myself, you owe it to yourself to go to the campus and see the amazing change that has taken place. It is impressive!
