  1. Comparing natural turf to artificial turf is not an entirely fair comparison.  A well-maintained natural turf field is usually preferred by those who have the money and manpower to maintain them.  At the high school level, most fields must be multi-use facilities thus adding the demand of saving money over the long term.  The old school Astroturf was brutal for causing many knee injuries because it had superior (dangerously) traction but with bad consequences.  The newer artificial turf is much superior in it's playability and ability to mimic natural turf.  Costs of artificial turf have dramatically been reduced compared to 10-20 years ago.  More companies competing for the market helps as well.  The most recent version of these artificial turf fields have the features of not holding/transferring heat by the use of different "pellets".  I am very happy that many more schools are able to install a safer artificial turf so that many programs, (football, band, drill team, soccer, etc.) can train, practice, and play on safer field.

  2. Having attended multiple Championships at AT&T as well as the one at NRG, I too acknowledge that AT&T is very accommodating to the teams as well as fans for the UIL games.  I had hopes that NRG would have been a better host so the games could return occasionally.  The Houston area crowds were many thousands lower than those at AT&T.  If you have never attended the UIL Championships, you owe it to yourself to make the trek to Arlington and experience a first-class presentation of our beloved Texas High School Football.

All jokes aside, I’ve never seen Ply before Friday. Honeycutt didn’t seen to have as many touches (he was shoring up the secondary) compared to previous weeks. Hamm runs hard but just doesn’t have the breakaway speed that we’re used to seeing from multiple kids out of the backfield.

The bears were definitely watching for the qb to sweep after seeing us gouge people  with it a few times already this year. That one got us nowhere on friday.

Ply looks like he has what it takes and gives an idea what to expect for the next couple of years.

To see Ply, you would have needed to seen him on Thursday nights with the JV team.  He is a good player being pressed into emergency service.

It really all begins on what the ceiling and basement numbers will be when UIL divides 5A into divisions. I actually think 5A DII basement numbers will drop low enough to keep Ozen and Lumberton in 5A and move Cleveland, Huffman and LC-M into 5A.

That will have a ripple effect on the the rest of 4A and 3A DI.

I have been told by folks in the know that UIL will do all it can to eliminate 4-5 team districts and have at minimum 6 team districts. Teams having 5-6 non-district games have been complaining about filling those games. UIL is finally listening.

I think the UIL thinks going with division districts in 5A will help them solve that issue. We will see.

I spoke to Dr. Myers, Cleveland's Superintendent last night.  He told me that Cleveland ISD is up 500 students from last year!  Their high school numbers are 1200+.  Crazy growth over there.
